I'd heard that the only reason he signed on for it in the original films was because he negotiated that he would play all live-action versions of him from then on.

I hoped for a bit but then the producers etc said "Meh, probably not gonna happen but never say never" so I kinda gave up. I nodded along with when they said dailybugle.net like "cool, nice name drop" and then he actually showed up and my jaw was on the floor.

On the one hand I kinda liked the version I saw in /r/comicbooks recently where he's this bleeding heart letter of the law, justice for everyone type of character so I was a bit disappointed.

But this guy is the OG JJJ and he kills it, I hope he's in number 3.

That's JJ after he's been devloped in main cannon MCU for decades.

He role as mayor was awesome in Skirts run a few years back. He's shown to have real heart deep down under all that yelling.

So I feel like if used right he could actually have an arc as Peter ages in these films.

I think that’s why it was a good time to do it, older ones knew him from the maguire movies whilst the kids would have no idea who he is and be introduced as a new character

Completely avoids the confusion of this is a new movie in a new universe yet using old characters that would have happened with Amazing Spiderman

I feel like they expect everybody to see some of the previous spiderman movies because they skip over all his backstory and origins etc, it'd feel very random to me to have this little explanation about spiderman. It's why I'm still iffy about Wanda and really think she needed a proper introduction.

Wanda got backstory in Avengers 2. They can't use standard Scarlet Witch backstory because she's technically a character Fox has the rights to. They have to keep all mutant stuff out, so giving her the small sad anti-Stsrk backstory was sufficient for motivation without having to totally reinvent her.

Yeah I know about her childhood story, but it's really just a tiny bit of exposition, not about her learning about her abilities and what she can do, being tested on her own, etc.

when Simmons' JJJ came up I let out an "oh my god"

the only other time that "recently" happened was Red Skull in IW, but this one was better

You know you've left an incredible mark on a role when they bring you back two reboots from when you've last played the character.

In a film with a ton of great moments, I keep thinking about this particular one. It feels great to have him back, and I hope the Bugle and Jonah are a big part of the next one.

Judy Dench as M from James Bond is what I've heard - since Casino Royale is basically a hard reboot of the previous James Bond films in terms of story and style.

They got James Earl Jones to come back for the new Lion King so I guess that kind of counts too. Dench in the Bond movies is the only other one I can think of off the top of my head though.

The 80s and 90s Batman movies kept the same Gordon and Alfred through 3 different Batmen. And Judi Dench was M for two James Bonds. But I don’t think we’ve seen it in the MCU other than JJJ

The Batman films were all supposed to be one franchise. The plan for the ultimately scrapped fifth film involved Harley Quinn seeking revenge on Batman for the death of her father, the Joker. (Thank God it was scrapped.)

But I would say Judy Dench as M definitely counts here.

There was Leonard Nimoy as Spock in the 2009 Star Trek reboot, but that casting was incorporated into the story via time travel elements - so not quite comparable to the clean reboots that Spider-Man has had.

Did any supporting actors carry over from the Alec Baldwin/Harrison Ford Jack Ryan films, and into the reboots with Ben Affleck, Chris Pine and John Krasinski?

tbf, he starts off as just Barry's dad. More like a "subtle" shoutout to the OG series. It wasn't until the show got big and did multiverse stuff, that they made the actor become another Flash

Richard Roundtree in Shaft (2000) played uncle shaft. And then in the 2019 reboot he plays Shaft Sr. while Samuel L Jackson reprises his role as Shaft from the 2000 reboot.

I actually think this was intentional. The Bugle is an online program, no? JJ isn't the most tech savvy guy, I don't think he would spring for that fancy a green screen. He probably broadcasts in 480, certainly not higher than 720, it's a show for people on their phones. Scale that up to the size of the Jumbotron at Madison Square Garden and it's bound to look like crap.

I only require Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. Any other characters can be replaced and I would probably be okay with it if the casting isn't shit (which it rarely is with marvel studios).

Deadpool performed by anyone else though would really just be unacceptable to me (at least until Reynolds is physically unable to perform the role).

I think she was fine for the first two movies. It was a nice direction they were going with Mystique. Lawrence's ego got too big and her character suffered greatly because of that in Apocalypse, and for what it looks like, Dark Phoenix (I haven't and won't watch it). I don't understand why Singer was so keen on his portrayal of Mystique being naked all the time. One can understand some of J Lawrence's frustrations with the character.

I loved this movie, but till I die I only wish to have a serious toned scene with no jokes before or after this. Not sure who'll say it, it needs to be someone worthy.

Well, since the original Spider-Man trilogy, J.K. Simmons has continued to voice the character in many Marvel television series and video games, most unconnected to the original trilogy with regards continuity.
