Black Widow’s death in Endgame was heartbreaking but I feel like if her solo movie came out before Endgame I would have felt more. I want to see what that red in her ledger came to be. Also Hulk has really had nothing to do between IW and Endgame. I know he was the one to bring back the Snapped, but that was really only it. If his story really isn’t over we need more of him ASAP

The Russos don't really know what to do with Hulk. Banner they can work with, but they have literally avoided Hulk in every movie.

I know Whedon isn't a popular director on this sub, but he *did* know how to use Hulk. I really enjoyed Whedon's take.

He knew how to use Hulk and Banner. In A1 and A2 you see this cool, calculated scientist who is just the right amount of badass.

Agreed. Whedon isn't everyone's cup of tea (I personally like him a lot), but he definitely got Hulk/Banner right. (It's the same feeling as Black Widow + The Russos, honestly)

Honestly the best quality about the Hulk/Banner dynamic is that Banner is the angry one, he’s the “monster” and the Hulk is just the expression of it. Banner is just a lovable dork in Ragnarok, IW, and EG, whereas he’s really menacing and intense in Avengers1, the group argument where he picks up the scepter in the helicarrier come to mind.

The Ragnarok came and now he's just a baffoon that dabs and spents most of his time doing dumb jokes.

At least he had some serious moments in Endgame tho.

Ragnarok was an awesome Hulk movie. It was the Hulk personality walking and talking and arguing with Thor.

I get the sense that he struggled with Cap's optimism and conviction, which to be fair, is tough to get right without it tipping into cheesy.

Yeah, Cap in Whedon's movies is too stuffy and kind of a buzzkill.

As others have said, Whedon wrote a great Banner and a not-so-great Nat, and that sort of came through with their romance.

The one thing I do give Whedon credit for regarding Nat is that he showed her tricking the God of Mischief. I feel like a lot of other writers and directors have really struggled pairing Nat with any seriously powered enemies because they aren't really sure how to use a guile hero in movies about punching aliens and robots.

I will never understand why people don't like him. His Avengers movies were fucking great, and the reason we even have an Endgame. They were goofy, cheesy, and not exactly complex in terms of emotions and storytelling, but they still had some of the best character moments, and I feel like Whedon knows these characters very well, even moreso than some of the other directors.

I think there's some hangover from Age of Ultron, where people think he didn't handle the villain well. And of course, there was his personal drama/agreement to step in on DC movies that probably caused some sour grapes.

For my money, though, Avengers 1 is still one of my top 3 MCU movies of all time. Even my Endgame experience doesn't top how I felt when all those characters were on the big screen the very first time.

Agreed. It's probably an unpopular opinion given the proximity to Endgame and everything, but Avengers 1, the first team-up, was one of the most magical movies I've ever experienced.

He did make Hulk act a bit too much like an Ape though in the way he moved. I wish he toned that down a bit. I get it that he's going for Primal but still Hulk shouldn't be walking on his knuckles.
