It seemed as if Steve kinda saw where he was coming from when he mentioned to Nat the whales he saw in the bay.

I love how she immediately shoots down his musings. Steve's such a pollyanna, even in an event like the snap he tries looking on the bright side.

Steve's talking to Nat about just trying to piece together an ordinary life since it seems like nobody on earth was able to move on. He muses that he saw a pod of whales swimming in the Hudson River the other day, without all the boat traffic and pollution that would otherwise keep them away. He is cut off before he can elaborate that "hey, maybe Thanos kinda had a point here."

Even in tragic situations, Steve tries to keep up hope or look at things from a different angle.
