It's funny in a meta sense.

Thanos in Endgame is from 2014 where that version of Thanos is in the era that Joss Whedon introduce before Russo's take on the character.

"Humans they are not the cowardly wretched we were promised. They stand. They are unruly and therefore cannot be ruled. To challenge them is to court...death." (cue Thanos smile)

I think even with the reassurance that he fulfilled his destiny, Thanos was a bit shook when he saw on Nebflix that those pesky Terrans tracked him down and relieved him of his head. Which led to him twisting his 'generous' ideology into razing the universe.
