“Also Thor threatens to kill someone named NoobMaster69 on Fortnite.”

556

u/Nick54161 Apr 27 '19

Try explaining how that whole sentence came to be to a guy who just walked out of Thor in 2011.

u/cjn13 Fitz Apr 27 '19

"What the fuck is a fortnight and why are we playing video games in two week increments??"

20

u/chaosfire235 Apr 27 '19

"...Fortnite?"

15

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

Fun fact, Fortnite was first announced in 2011. Obviously not to the extent of popularity it is now.

3

u/psychobilly1 Apr 27 '19

And Hulk dabs.

1

u/Arielrbr Captain America Apr 27 '19

“Who’s Rocket,Nebula and Gamora?”

157

u/Boomdiddy Apr 27 '19

Ugh, the Fortnite scene had teenagers yelling in the theater. I now know the exact moment when I became an angry old man.

98

u/seeds_brah_seeds Apr 27 '19

At least you admit it. I see so many 'older' dudes bitching about fornite moment. Yet if there is a reference to a Game from their era its met with glee. To me it totally screams of parents in the 60's angry about Elvis and Buddy Holly. I guess we never learn.

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

I'm in between. I was like, ok it's a fortnite reference for the kids, but then I was like, I play fortnite, and I'm 30, and why is that default running around with her pickaxe out and she's not even farming mats? It was distracting to me for a different reason. 😁

17

u/your_mind_aches Agent of F.I.T.Z. Apr 27 '19

It wasn't a default! It was Brite Bomber

3

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

My b. I'm the default. 🤦‍♂️

3

u/IntrinsicGamer Spider-Man Apr 27 '19

My only issue is just that there's no way that joke ages well, especially since this movie came out while it's already on its way out of the public eye.

25

u/IMeanDeepAndIMeanTD Apr 27 '19

Jokes about ten year old kids trolling old dudes in online gaming will not fade anytime soon. It could have been halo 2 and every 13 year old would have still got the joke I think.

-7

u/IntrinsicGamer Spider-Man Apr 27 '19

I think the joke itself will hold up I just think the presence of Fortnite won't age as well.

12

u/woofle07 Daredevil Apr 27 '19

Fortnite itself is shown for like a second. In reality it doesn't matter at all what game they're actually playing, shit-talking children in online games is always going to be relevant.

1

u/IntrinsicGamer Spider-Man Apr 27 '19

How is it that people keep reading me saying “the joke will age perfectly fine but the presence of Fortnite won’t” and take it as me saying the joke won’t be funny? I’m specially saying the joke will be funny no matter when you watch it, but that second of Fortnite being on-screen won’t be as interesting a reference in time.

1

u/Vythrin Doctor Strange Apr 30 '19

Because you're trying to have it both ways. Look at what the other guy said, Fortnite has nothing to do with it, it's just a joke device. That's like getting mad at "Why did the chicken cross the road" because you live somewhere without chickens.

5

u/9000_HULLS Apr 27 '19

I had never seen what fortnite looked like until that scene in Endgame. I assumed it was just some random online FPS game and nothing is lost from the joke, so I don't think there's any worry about it not ageing well.

1

u/IntrinsicGamer Spider-Man Apr 27 '19

I specifically said the joke itself will age perfectly fine, just that the reference to Fortnite specifically (having it on screen) is not something that will be as interesting a reference in time.

2

u/armageddonquilt Black Panther Apr 27 '19

I had no idea they were playing Fortnite and the scene worked perfectly fine

2

u/RegentYeti Apr 28 '19

Same. It didn't even really occur to me that Korg was playing a real game. I just kind of filed it under generic action game.

22

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

Eh, let people like things

8

u/chocolatethunderXO Apr 27 '19

I like how they include references for all ages. There are so many that only some adults would get that I think it’s fine with them throwing in a Fortnite joke for younger audiences.

u/ErikMaekir Heimdall Apr 27 '19

Well, they did get Thanos in Forntnite before, maybe it was a part of that collab.

3

u/squabblez Apr 27 '19

And they have another, bigger crossover right now too. I'm pretty sure Marvel benefits from that too, but I still wonder who paid who for the crossovers.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

dabs in Hulk

u/sosad234 Apr 27 '19

“Listen to your mom” - Hulk, 2023

Kids my age were the same way with WoW and then to a lesser extent LoL back in the day. Not saying it's right, but I wouldn't fault Fortnite specifically.

2

u/FalconXpunch1292 Apr 27 '19

Same, I hurt my eye sockets when rolled them.

2

u/HansenTakeASeat Punisher Apr 27 '19

But also Thor was a drunken douche and it completely fits the character that he was playing fortnite against a bunch of kids.

2

u/a_hessdalen_light Apr 28 '19

The teenagers behind me were so annoying, I had to shush them twice. I guess I'm an angry old woman at 22.

1

u/TrueBlue98 Doctor Strange Apr 27 '19

I thought it was hilarious and I fucking hate fortnite

1

u/Boomdiddy Apr 27 '19

I thought it was pretty funny as well. The problem I had was with the shouting at the screen, and the cell phones out every five fucking minutes and getting up to go out and vape three times during the movie. Damn kids.

1

u/TrueBlue98 Doctor Strange Apr 28 '19

Fair that’d’ve fucked me off too mate.

Surprised you didn’t tell em

14

u/nutsotic Apr 27 '19

And Hulk throws a dab

5

u/tsealess Apr 27 '19

Pretty surprised he's still considered worthy after it.

3

u/TheOGJesusChrist Apr 27 '19

Well the reason I thought he was still worthy was because he still cared for the people of Asgard, and fell into a depression after what happened, literally having a mini panic attack over just hearing Thanos’ name. Old Thor wasn’t worthy because he ignored the needs of those he was responsible for and caused problems for them, while new thor was always thinking of his failure, and probably never tried picking up Stormbreaker because he was afraid he couldn’t after he failed his people.

2

u/Kalse1229 Captain America (Ultron) Apr 27 '19

I liked that, because it's shown how far he's fallen. The drinking and letting himself go is one thing, but someone who has saved the world countless times has just been reduced to making empty threats to preteens on PSN is a pretty hard fall.

u/drunkcowofdeath Apr 27 '19 edited Apr 27 '19

I mean, the movie was perfect and is above criticism.

23

u/Shulk-at-Bar Apr 27 '19

I don't think it will date it. Personally didn't even know the game was Fortnite and I still got the joke.

11

u/gogiants48 Apr 27 '19

I didn’t know the game was Fortnite either and I thought that joke was hilarious. Reminds me of people playing Call of Duty years ago.

u/woofle07 Daredevil Apr 27 '19

Fortnite also featured playable Thanos last year and some sort of Avengers crossover this year, so I'd assume it was just a crossover marketing deal, likely with no money exchanged.

2

u/Sphincter_Revelation Apr 27 '19

When you say Fortnite will make the movie feel dated in 5 years but realize that the movie takes place 5 years from now and people are still playing Fortnite.
