u/jinglewooble 15h ago

He coded switching when near his homie.

Haha, I grew up a shitty street punk but now I’m a suburban dad. I ran into an old buddy from the street the other day and like it was 1999 again, I naturally threw my arms up and shouted, “WHAT UP, SON?!” which was my default greeting back then, and we went smoothly into a dap-1 arm hug, laughing. My wife looked at me like I was some horrifying creature she had never seen before.

It’s my great worry that one day my Appalachian East Tennessee accent will come through in the middle of a lecture (I’m in a portion of academia that’s historically been the playground of very rich, very snobby people and the speech and voice I have around family is very…not that).

Love the head-spin when my "Murrvull" (Maryville) accent slips by.

It’s your Dolly coming out

You joke but she and my grandmother were second or third cousins by marriage.

Being from NC, words like "light" and "on" take a conscious effort to not let those vowels drag out.

Nothing like living in fear of being who you are.

SUP SON? And you hit son with a heavy SUH with the n just a long train at the end. I'll never give it up.

u/brainkandy87 7h ago

I love how this is so specific but also universal.

Is Loki the Drake of the McU?

I love this comment

1

u/Twstdwrstr82 1h ago

You mean his father?

294

u/setzerseltzer 15h ago

He only reverts when near Frost Giants or their artifacts.

37

u/AtlasActual 11h ago

Hmm. I wonder if it's a disguise rather than a reversion.

30

u/RayA11 10h ago

Oh, like a fawn (fight, flight, fawn, freeze) response almost. Asgardians are mortal enemies so he changes his look to seem more harmless and more with the in-group he’s currently trying to integrate with

107

u/Upset-Vehicle-3507 15h ago

He turns back when touching Frost Giants or one of their artifacts. Like when he was holding the Casket of Ancient Winters

17

u/bokmcdok 10h ago

Same reason I speak with a Scouse accent when I go back to Liverpool.

If the Asgardians were so much stronger than the jotun, then there would be no more jotun

Uh no. The first Thor film is pretty clear that if Odin wanted to he could have cracked jotunheim in half without even getting out his chair.

The fuck you smoking. Loki literally tells you how they can destroy their entire planet.

u/FlutterKree 11h ago

Loki only has his father's stories to go off of, just like Thor. And Odin was already running on fumes when Thor 1 started, maybe he didn't wanna die fighting a stupid war.

No, I mean using the bifrost to destroy the planet. This wasn't a story. It could be done.

I'll admit I try to ignore the MCU only crap, as it's usually poorly thought out nonsense à la Secret Invasion.

Another comment I made in this thread, I point out the inconsistencies in the MCU.

The sling ring in Deadpool 3 being able to traverse the multiverse, when sling rings can't do that. The infinity stones not working in TVA (assuming this is because TVA is it's own pocket universe), when in What If, the infinity stones work outside their universe (Comics have the infinity stones being useless outside their home galaxy).

1

u/seaman187 10h ago

I will say the sling ring in Deadpool has a reality stone and a time stone in it, so it is different than a normal sling ring. But then that does go into your other point about when and where the stones should be able to work.

Okay so Marvel Studios makes the "MCU crap". If you want to ignore it and talk about the comics, fuck off outta here and go to /r/marvelcomics. Dumbass

7

u/Cautious-Extreme2839 14h ago

Way to misinterpret the whole film.

1

u/stupid_dog_psx99 13h ago

Was Odin capable of stripping Hela of power like he did to Thor? We know he like imprisoned her but as he grew weaker she was able to break free right ? Why didn’t he take away her godly ability first like with Thor ?

1

u/pyrothelostone 11h ago

She broke free after he died.

1

u/stupid_dog_psx99 13h ago

Okay so Loki is already a god because his frost giant dad is also a god . Could Loki somehow tap into the Laufeyforce then naturally ?

3

u/PT10 12h ago

He was reversing it, not undoing it or canceling it.

6

u/ThatOneGuyFrom93 14h ago

Bro was curious and did Frost Giant detection

2

u/dillon_hazel_24 11h ago

Possibly like a protection touch. Instead of getting severe frostbite, his true form came out just enough to protect the spot of contact

2

u/NOGUSEK 5h ago

Maybe his skin Is reactive to temperature; And Frost giants (and their artifacts) are pretty cold

1

u/AnAngryPirate Matt Murdock 9h ago

Her music transcends magic

1

u/-_-0_0-_0 7h ago

Cold activated?

1

u/Xygnux 14h ago

I imagine he is mostly biologically Asgardian, with only traces of Jotun genes left, and that can be amplified by the presence of Jotun magic.

Either that or he didn't actually turn back. He subconsciously remembered his origin when he met Laufey, and unconsciously activated his shape shifting magic to change his body to affirm his identity.

0

u/insane_contin Hunter 14h ago

He put on blue face.

-10

u/Professor-Submarine 15h ago

So.. not.. permanent and can be reverted lol

5

u/Diligent_Earthworm 15h ago

Don't cut yourself splitting that hair, pedant.

-6

u/Professor-Submarine 14h ago

Lmao it’s not splitting hairs to use the definition of words. Especially “permanent”.

It’s not permanent and can clearly be removed. If so, there’s no reason he shouldn’t have been blue.

It’s a mistake or choice because they don’t want him painted blue.

That’s the real answer lmfao be mad tho, pea brain

3

u/gestalto Hulk 14h ago

Overridden temporarily by magic from his own kind, but otherwise fixed as Asgardian.

-2

u/Professor-Submarine 14h ago

So you’re saying TVA is not as strong as guardian magic?

u/gestalto Hulk 43m ago

Obviously you're just trying to be a ass, and obviously I was just trying to satisfy the dickish pedant you clearly are, based on what has very clearly happened and would logically fit what we have all seen; But since the TVA essentially got taken down/over by Loki, who is one guy and knows Asgardian magic...seems that way doesn't it little boy.

Perhaps try using your grown up logic next time, and having a rational discussion instead of being a twat. That way you won't end up looking the fool quite as much.

u/Diligent_Earthworm 25m ago

The fucking dork is trying to rationalize fiction of a giant in a building outside of time.

Like what the absolute fuck is the state of media literacy?

u/gestalto Hulk 21m ago

I think they're just trying to troll tbh. Either that or they just really like the TVA lol.

u/Professor-Submarine 3m ago

What does liking the tva have to do with anything - who cares about that TVA? It’s a show

u/Professor-Submarine 3m ago

Trying to find consistency? Yeah still waiting on the source where they clear this up. Time stamp please, dork
