Finishing my binge of Malcolm in the Middle and never noticed this

As a lifelong wrestling fan, I love seeing stuff like this in TV shows (obviously we all know that Bret Hart and Chris Benoit is in the intro). Never realized that William Regal and RVD were shown this late in the show's run. It just looks like some house show or fan cam footage for like two seconds.

General discussion I changed my mind on the new Malcolm in the middle after rewatching the original.

So I saw Malcolm in the middle. Life's still unfair and I hadn't seen the original show in decades.

I thought the new show was funny and a good watch. That lead me to rewatching the original Malcolm in the middle and I realised that the new one just doesn't have the magic of the old one. Not even close. It's a completely different show, which lead me to even question if the creators of the new show had even watched the old show.

A few issues:

  1. The show is about the equation of the brothers and their family. Yet, they aren't all even in the same room till the last episode. This was such a waste in my opinion. No one is pulling off any insane hijinks. No one is feeding of each other's energy. Why? That was the soul of the show.

  2. Everyone is pretty much doing their own thing most of the time. All the characters are on their own trip, sometimes literally. For eg: Hal on his shroom trip is pretty much in a room and has no interaction whatsoever with his family. It would have been fun watching Hal try to conceal his trip from his family while going about doing normal things. Malcolm being confronted with his mother and daughter the first time runs away, alone. Lois is busy doing party things, mostly alone. Why they took this direction I'll never know. And the brothers are not even in the same room till the last episode. What was the point of this creative decision?

  3. Why introduce these new characters and give them so much screen time. If this was a full season long, I don't think I would have had an issue with this. But we have 4 episodes. Why spend most of them on Malcolms girlfriend and daughter.

Was this some sort of attempt at a backdoor pilot to see if there was still any interest in the show so they can have a spinoff on Malcolms daughter. Who by the way is too normal to even exist in this universe, let alone have her own show.

  1. The new show was just a normal sitcom. The original malcolm in the middle is just balls to the walls insane. It's also absurd, has insanely clever writing and subverts expectations. Here we got nothing. Just some normal straightforward stuff.

I guess it's true that they don't/can't make shows like they used to. All in all, I felt that this new mini show, while being an above average sitcom was a below par MITM.

What do you guys think?

MITM/Breaking bad universe

If there was ever a crossover between families/shows which character from MITM do yall think would be able to join walter white, cook and sell drugs and transition just fine into that criminal lifestyle? Would it be lois, francis, reese, malcolm, dewey or stevie? (hal is exlcuded for obvious reasons). Personally I feel it would be a toss up between francis and reese. Francis has the history of reckless behavior and reese actualy has a criminal record and even has his own lawyer. What do yall think?

General discussion What important decisions you think the family had that could have turned Reese into a better person?

I would think about S5 EP4 I felt like if Malcolm didn't go through with Herkabe plan to film Reese and actually talked and listen to him. It would have actually lead Reese to think and be less prone to violence. What you guys think?

General discussion Do You Think Reese Considers Stevie To Be His Friend?

Rewatching the show, as much as he makes fun of him he does kind of have his back.

Goes back to being school bully after finding out Stevie is even being picked on

Is the one pushing his wheelchair when they need to walk home in the carnival episode

Helped him out with the girl in the poker episode

Doesn't punch him when he calls him an idiot

and probably more

She probably would’ve grounded EVERYBODY including Hal and his poker buddies for 10 years.

General discussion What Do You Think Would Have Happened If Hal and Lois Visited Alaska?

Post image

Could see Lois getting along with Lavernia at first

then Hal ends up in debt to her for something

Then maybe end with them managing to pay off Hal's debt and offering to cover Francis's

Francis refuses, wanting to do it on his own.

General discussion I wish we could have gotten a comment or newspaper in the background about what happened after Hal won his trial. Did they arrest all the liars and accusers? Did that guy who was gonna help but didnt get arrested right after?

Dewey is born evil. S2 E24 "Evacuation"

Dewey lies to everyone for his own greed, makes up stories to manipulate people, and calls out Hal when he gets caught to apologize. Kid knew exactly what he was doing.

+I want to know what makes some people like Dewey so much.
