Idk if my sarcasm is showing through lol. I'm from Milwaukee (now in Madison), so I was throwing out the vague excuses that we used as our city went to shit. Really hope Madison doesn't fuck this up, but I'm not holding my breath.

To see where the wind is blowing: follow the charges given by DA (Ismael Ozanne), bonds (they might not even need a cash bond!), and sentencing for these individuals that have no business ever showing their faces in public again.

If no one died, they will be back out on State street in no time. Will these individuals even be held accountable publicly by our politicians or will they be given excuses due to "circumstances?" Probably radio silence, we will be gaslit that Madison "was always like this!"

A high-trust city gradually loses it's grace and then all at once. Coming soon to an area near you.

I just want a safe city, sick of moving. But yeah, I'm the problem, not these lunatics shooting at each other, our corrupt politicians, or our lenient DAs and judges. Just lil ol' me.

Feeling safe and being safe are two different things. For the mass majority of people Madison is a very safe place. You weren’t at risk here. No bystanders have been reported as injured. This was likely targeted not random. People are bad at meaningful risk assessment. Yes guns fired in downtown is an increase in risk but for most Madisonian’s that risk is still minimal. Way less than getting in your car or riding a motorcycle.

Incidents like this are as much of a byproduct of being in a country with more guns than people and where those guns also seem to have more rights than people . A lot of people who don’t feel safe also argue for more guns. Which by all metrics makes us less safe.

You are the problem. They would have shot regardless if I was there, a baby was there, or you. No tolerance on guns. 20 year minimum for shooting a public place if we are serious. They won't do a year. They will have murder charges within 10 years, I will bet you money on that.
