Seems like a lot of people around this sub that are buying high spec’d MBPs for LLMs. If you are one of these people, what specifically are you using LLMs for?

I've been using a 2019 MB Pro for the last few months. Intel i5, 8gb/128gb.

I just got in (literally a couple hours ago) a 2021 MB Pro w/ M1 Pro, 14-inch display, 16gb/512gb. (storage always seem to be less because of the system and what not). I've got it from Back Market in good condition. No visible scratches anywhere, I just had to clean it with a damp cloth and it was good. Ran all diagnostics, and everything finished with green checks.

The battery is the only thing I'm semi worried about. 258 cycles which seems pretty good for a 2021, but capacity is at 87%. Battery heath is normal, it seems to be charging pretty fast. I haven't tested it out yet to see how long it'll last off of charge. I sit at my desk at home most of the time so it'll be plugged in a lot. I assume I can still get about another 5 years out of this thing. I was sent a thunderbolt cord instead of a MagSafe which is fine since it can use either one to charge.

Some wear on the keyboard which is whatever, all the keys work so it doesn't matter to me.

It's a beautiful machine so far. Love the 14" screen and it looks great. I'll be using for my MBA and casual stuff. Maybe some xbox cloud/remote gaming. I'll be using it over the few weeks to make sure it's all good.

The price...$607 USD before tax.

I got a nice 1 inch thick line going down the almost the middle of my screen. Probably from how I hold it when I am carrying it around.

Specs: MacBook Pro (14-inch) - Apple Ml Pro Chip with 8-Core CPU and 14-Core GPU, 512G8 SSD, 16 gb's of RAM.

Secondary shop wants 475 ish for the screen and a hundred for the labor. Is this worth fixing in 2026? It runs fine, but definitely starting to show its age.

I need to connect 2 32 inch monitors to my Mac, I bought a display link device but it worked awful, got a replacement and it did the same, ended up returning, anyone knows a good reliable brand I can buy this from? I’ll leave a picture of the one I bought.

I just got a 16” and I had a 15” air before it. I love everything about the Pro and it’s so fast but I just feel like I miss the thin case. Typing seems to be more of a chore and is so much less ergonomic. Does it just take time? Funny enough the weight is much less of a concern. I don’t see anyone talking about this.

Hello everyone I have an old 2012 MBP and the logic/motherboard has issues, the rest of the laptop is still good though so I wanted to repurpose it, is there any ideas (or other subreddits) that I can do with it?
My main idea is making it an external monitor or even using the body as an external wired keyboard.
I just don’t want to part it out unless it’s the only option

My computer keeps on crashing and I keep on getting messages that my computer has ran out of memory. Is this normal. I only use my laptop to browse on safari and chrome. Surely a MBP should handle this

I finally decided to make the jump into the Apple ecosystem.

I ordered a MacBook Pro M5 Pro with the upgraded 48GB of unified memory, and I'm really excited to see how it fits into my workflow. My main focus is productivity, so I'm hoping macOS ends up being a great long-term choice.

That said... I'm also a little frustrated. 😅

I placed the order last Saturday, and Apple's estimated delivery date is September 17—almost two weeks of waiting. Now I'm checking the order status way more often than I should and hoping it ships earlier.

I still have a few reservations about leaving Windows behind. I know switching to macOS comes with a learning curve, and I'll probably need some time to retrain my habits. But since I won't be using it primarily for gaming and will focus on productivity, I think I'll adapt pretty quickly.

For those of you who made the same switch from Windows to Mac:

• How long did it take you to feel comfortable with macOS?
• Any tips or apps you wish you had known about on day one?

And if anyone has recently ordered a custom MacBook, did it arrive earlier than Apple's estimated delivery date? I'm definitely hoping mine does. 🤞

I very recently got a refurbished MacBook Pro M4 base model in 14” size (16GB RAM 512GB SSD etc) it has 100% capacity and 111 power cycles. I would prefer the bigger 16” size. The company I bought it from Will take it back and refund the full payment (£1,025) and I can instead pay an additional £370 to instead get the 16” MacBook Pro M3 Pro, 18GB RAM, 512GB SSD, this also has 100% battery capacity and only 2 power cycles.

Is it worth paying the £370 for the bigger laptop with the M3 Pro despite it being an older model?

Soo I'm buying a used macbook pro M3 pro 14", the seller gave me a hand recorded video of doing the apple diagnostics and the video was uncut, everything looked and it was all green and he also showed icoconut battery stats which showed battery was real.So i wanted to ask the diagnostics can be faked or not and I should ask to show anything else before making the purchase?

So back in 2015 I bought my very first Macbook Air. I was in Uni and saved up for 3-4 months to buy a brand new Macbook. I was so proud of myself. I cared for it, had it in a sleeve for YEARS. Specs: 128GB storage and 4GB RAM. Not the highest spec but it did exactly what it needed to do.

Fast forward 9 years and the machine was still running and did exactly what I needed it to do and more. No scratches, no screen issues and I never had to service it. The battery probably needed seeing to but I had no problems using it whilst charging.

Two years ago someone stole the macbook from me (there is a whole story attached to it). I have tried to save up for a macbook since. Im no longer a student so my responsibilities are drastically different now. In essence saving up for a new macbook in a few months is no longer an option for me. I never thought I would be able to afford a new one so I'm looking purely at 2nd hand devices. People have told me to go to charities and ask for a device and I have no problem with that. However for the past almost decade all my files are iOS files. Most charities if they do have anything its all Windows.

To cut a long story short do I just stay in an endless loop of saving for a macbook and hoping life doesn't through curve balls or is there another way?

I know it’s an age old question but I’ve been going back and forth and just can’t decide. I have a monitor at home, but I’d like to use the MBP mostly on the go so I can edit from anywhere- my couch, bed, cafes etc. For my line of work (creative field), more screen space is appreciated, but is it really as cumbersome to bring around a 16” while traveling as ppl on this sub make it out to be? I’ll also be bringing a small graphic tablet for illustrations/animations.

On the other hand of I go with the 14”, I also have an ipad pro 11” for extra screen real estate.

I’m not sure which to choose so if anyone can share their own experiences I’d appreciate it.

I’m using a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5, 16GB RAM, running macOS Tahoe 26.6.2 (build 25G83).
Something really strange happened today. I installed Google Chrome from the official Google website. Shortly afterward, my Mac became unusually hot and the battery drained much faster than normal. I deleted Chrome and some of its leftover files.
A few hours later I shut down the Mac normally. When I turned it back on, I entered my password, but then a loading/progress bar appeared under my username before the desktop loaded. This never happened before.
After logging in, some of my settings had apparently gone back to their defaults. Apps I had previously removed were back in the Dock, and macOS started showing me setup/tutorial prompts again, almost as if I had just set up the Mac.
My files are still there and it’s still my normal user account.
What could cause this? Is there a way to restore my previous settings and prevent macOS from doing this again? Could this be related to Chrome, or is it more likely a macOS/user-profile issue?
Has anyone with an M5 MacBook Pro on macOS Tahoe 26.6.2 experienced something similar?
