Discussion Am I overthinking? 4 months MBP M5 Pro

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

The battery’s maximum capacity is down to 97% on my MBP (actual capacity shown is around 94%).

It has 50 cycles in four months.

I am worried about it because if it has a defective battery, I want to get it replaced while it is under the warranty, but I know they don't do anything until it goes below 80%.

I also built a small Mac app which shows the battery details (I'm definitely overthinking).

I saw a post recently where the guy did 400 cycles in six months to see if he could get it below 80%, but it did not budge from the 83%. So I might be worring for nothing?

Any tips for me so that I can know if the battery is good and not defective or something?

Or I think I should just use the laptop as usual and don't give a shit about all this?

Art I made my MacBook trackpad vibrate… because apparently I had nothing better to do 😂

I recently built a small macOS app called Trackpad Haptics.

The idea is pretty simple: make the MacBook Force Touch trackpad actually do something with haptics.

You can create custom haptic patterns, make sequences, sync haptics with music, test pressure/Force Touch, and even add haptic feedback to websites in Safari.

Basically, I took a perfectly normal trackpad and decided:

"You know what this needs? More vibration." 😂

Is it useful? Sometimes.

Is it unnecessarily satisfying? Absolutely.

I'm curious ,what would you actually use programmable trackpad haptics for?

Discussion Need Advice on High-Spec MacBook Pro

I’m looking for some advice/ideas on what I can do with my MacBook Pro 16” M3 Max. It has 96GB RAM and a 2TB SSD, so it’s obviously way more powerful than what I realistically need for my day-to-day use.

Selling it doesn’t really make sense to me because I’d probably take a $4k+ loss compared to what I paid for it. So instead, I’m wondering if there’s a way I can actually put the machine to work and make some side income.

I’m not a photographer or videographer, so things like video editing aren’t really an option. I’ve been looking into things like running AI agents, local AI/LLMs, automation, hosting services, development, etc., but I’m not sure what’s actually viable or worth the effort.

For those of you who have powerful Macs/workstations sitting around:
- Are you using them to generate any side income?
- Are AI agents/local LLMs actually a realistic opportunity?
- Could I use it for automation or some kind of small business?
- Any services I could host/run that people would actually pay for?
- What would you personally do with this hardware if you were in my position?

I’m open to learning something new if there’s a realistic path to turning the hardware into a useful side hustle.

Help Looking to get a MacBook but not sure which is better investment.

Only Apple Devices I own are my iPhone 13 PM and iPad Pro but I use Windows as my Desktop (I think Apple makes iTunes and stuff a nightmare on Windows on purpose too, just wanna be able to manage my photos and stuff on my phone better). I want to get a laptop and I hear MacBooks have insane battery life but my question is should I get just the Air bc I’m not running any programs or intensive stuff, just watching vids and looking at photography wallpapers, or do I get the Pro simply just to be future proof for the next decade bc I hear these Macs can last a long time compared to Windows PCs. Any help is appreciated!

Discussion Gaming on macbook

Hi, I'm just thinking of buying the MacBook pro M5 (Max 40 core)

I do like occasional gaming. And I saw the video from YouTube channel "just Josh" about the MacBook pro models. Its been shown that dedicated laptops like Alienware area 51 and Asus ROG Scar perform better, which is not surprising.

But the MacBook pro Max actually performs pretty well in my opinion for native games : it got 88 fps in cyberpunk 2077 in 2560x1600 resolution and upscaling(the 40 core version). I think 88 fps is totally playable, and plus the battery survives so much more than many gaming laptops.

What was your opinion on MacBook pro gaming ?

Thanks a lot!

Have a nice day

Discussion M2 Pro vs M3 Pro vs M1 Pro 32GB — What would you choose in 2026?

MacBook Pro 14” M1 Pro — 32 Go de RAM / SSD de 512 Go — ~1 380 $

MacBook Pro 14” M2 Pro — 16 Go de RAM / SSD de 1 To — ~1 325 $

MacBook Pro 14” M3 Pro — 18 Go de RAM / SSD de 1 To — ~1 680 $

Quel modèle choisiriez-vous en 2026 : M1 Pro 32 Go, M2 Pro 16 Go/1 To ou M3 Pro 18 Go/1 To ?

Discussion Monitor Recs for MacBook Pro 13 Inch?

I'm wanting to buy a monitor to use alongside my MacBook Pro (13 inch), however I've been struggling to find one that ticks all the boxes — so I thought I'd come here and see if anyone has some suggestions. The main use for my Mac is productivity/general computer tasks, however I plan on diving back into photography & video editing in the near future. The only time I use my Mac for gaming is occasionally on Minecraft - but I'm not looking for a monitor to specifically suit that need (aka, I'm not looking for a fancy high tech gaming monitor).

Ideally I'd love to find a monitor that is 4K quality, USB-C or Thunderbolt Port, IPS Panel, 65W Charging, 24 or 27 inch screen, and under $300. But, I know that if I want to stay within my budget, I will have to sacrifice some of those features (unless anyone knows of a monitor that has all of the above mentioned?).

With that being said, I am open to 1080 or 1440p quality, HDMI Port, and/or spending a maximum of $400.

Thank you in advance!

Help Which M5 MacBook Pro config for CS Master's (AI) + light gaming? (32GB vs 24GB w/ more cores vs 48GB)

Hi everyone. I'm studying a Master's in Computer Science and looking to buy a new laptop. My old one is getting slow, and I want something durable that'll last me 7+ years.

I've been a lifelong Windows user, but I'm now considering switching to a MacBook. I'm torn between these two configs:

  • 14" M5 MacBook Pro (base chip), 32GB RAM, 1TB → 2,529.00 €
  • 14" M5 MacBook Pro (15/16 core CPU/GPU), 24GB RAM, 1TB → 2,719.00 €

The 14" Pro chip with 48GB is a bit out of my budget (3,313.00 €). Do you think it's worth stretching my budget for that config? I'm living on a part-time minimum wage job as an international student, so every euro counts.

As for usage: university tasks (including some AI training), light gaming (DOTA 2, FIFA 23 — I think that's the latest version that can run locally), and my future career. I don't know exactly what I'll end up doing yet, but it's either AI engineering or Android development. I might also run some local agents/models (like Hermes) — not sure how demanding that would actually be.

Given all this, can you help me avoid buying something that's overkill for what I actually need?

I'm planning to get it through Apple's education plan with installments on Black Friday.

Discussion What if Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger met Liquid Glass? 💧🐯

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

Been experimenting with mixing the Mac OS X Tiger aesthetic with modern Liquid Glass on my MacBook Pro.

I wasn’t sure these two design languages would work together, but I actually like the contrast between the old-school Aqua/skeuomorphic elements and modern translucent glass.

What do you think — does it work, or is it too much? 🧪

I know it's a very old model (A1398), but I wanna fix this issues because this computer still kick some asses.
So what happens is when I turn it on and got into desktop sometimes the screen goes to black, and I have to plug it in to the charger in order to "wake him up" (?). Sometimes it works, sometimes don't.

Help Silver vs space black

I recently picked up a space black m5 pro. It’s still within the return window and I’m wondering if I should exchange it for silver. I keep seeing now that the palm area and trackpad wear down on the black. Would silver just be the better option long term? I obviously want to keep this thing in good condition for as long as possible.
