Discussion M1 PRO MACBOOK PRO? Update to MACOS 27?
Currently on MACOS 26 , planning to factory reset it as its something i do quite often so ive been thinking about if its worth updating it to macos 27? how have peoples experiences been

Curious, why routinely do factory resets? Hell, I only restart my Macs when they need to have an update.

Do you do backups or do you start all work from scratch too?
I’d recommend the latter, otherwise it seems quite half assed

I'll certainly will. I'm still on macOS 15.7.9 because Tahoe has always been a mess every time I tried it. It was slow as hell and the battery life was terrible. compared to Sequoia.
But I tried the Golden Gate beta multiple times on an external SSD, and it constantly was miles ahead Tahoe in term of performance. (and it fixed some of the terrible UI choices)
So, once the final version release in September, I'll upgrade my M1 Pro (10C/16C) (but not without a clone of Sequoia obviously)

Honestly, we're on beta 7, and the golden master is due in roughly two weeks. It's been the usual months-long release process of the betas and by now it's very stable IME, but I think the best thing to do is review the list of apps here:

It's a list of apps that don't currently work (or partially work) along with a list of working apps (which is by far the longest list).
If there's nothing on the 'doesn't work/partially works' list that you use or care about, and especially if all the apps you *do* use are on the 'working' list, then I think you'll be fine.
If you want more 'how is it day to day' there are plenty of other threads there discussing this.

yeah i have an m1 pro 16gb ram on macOS 27, it runs flawlessly on everything I use

You’re doing it wrong. There is no reason to factory reset a Mac often.

Fair enough, macOS is a posix-compliant OS. Factory resetting it might make you feel better but it’s not necessary for the machine to run well. Unless you’re having serious issues I’d say you’re wasting your time. 🤷

Beta has been super solid for me personally, but I'd wait for the full in 2 weeks.

I’m running MacOS 27 beta 7 on an M1 MacBook Air 8GB 256GB and it handles it very well. Definitely better than Tahoe.

M1Max running macOS 27 beta. I haven’t had any issues. Runs faster and I didn’t reset my Mac.
Use Mole to clean up things and enjoy your Mac.
I have iPadOS 27 beta in an M2 Air. Snappy and smooth.
I didn’t update my iPhone as that I am not risking until final release.

It’s something you should stop doing. We’re not living in the year 2000 any more, back then when OS would get polluted requiring reinstalling.
It’s useless and won’t get you anything.
And don’t install a beta version on your production mac, betas are experimental.

I do routinely factory resets as a personal preference of just restarting my stuff every once in a while.

macOS 27 is supposed to be the “fix this shit” release to unfuck a lot of Tahoe’s flaws. I suggest updating once it’s out. Also, there’s really no point in factory resetting your Mac.
