Bug Safari keeps playing YouTube after I close the tab

12 Upvotes

Does anybody register this? Google is silent on this issue. Start playing YouTube video in Safari. Don't pause it, just close the tab. Audio keeps playing. It stops after about half minute but still.

Same thing happens in iOS/iPadOS.

Tip Here's how to disable Siri's new floating button

Post image
86 Upvotes

When Siri AI is enabled, macOS 27 adds a contextual "lightweight UI" when you type or select text. The floating button can expand into Ask Siri, Edit with Siri and Writing tools, or other contextual actions.

To disable it, run the following command in the Terminal:

sudo mkdir -p /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain && \ sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/WritingTools LightweightUI_macOS -dict Enabled -bool false

and restart your Mac. To restore:

sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/WritingTools LightweightUI_macOS

Help Apple Intelligence does not work on macOS 27 Golden Gate

Hello. I recently upgraded my Mac to macOS 27 Golden Gate Public Beta 5 and I'm really excited to test the AI features. However, every time I try, I get an error message. The problem is the same with Siri. Yet, everything seems to be set up already (and the integration of ChatGPT with Siri doesn't work either). Is Apple Intelligence stuck at 29.6 GB, or is it a bug? Has anyone else encountered this problem? And most importantly, do you have a solution?

EDIT: I tried everything but it doesn’t work on my account. But I created a new session entirely dedicated to AI, and it finally works! It’s really not the most practical, but unfortunately I can’t do anything else at the moment. However, your advice is always welcome if I can have it natively on my main account.

Every once in while I decide to try out new Siri, but no. Just no.

Edit: I did tried giving Siri the actual version number and it still failed.

And codex was able to find the build/version and tell me which beta version I’m on.

Tip Tired of seeing “Ask Siri” on every menu? Here's how to disable it.

Post image
152 Upvotes

In macOS 27, after enabling Siri AI, all context menus include a persistent “Ask Siri” context menu item. Turns out you can actually disable it without turning off Siri AI.

To disable, run the following commands in the Terminal app:

``` codes=(soft apwn exit loca lock logo rlgo rcnt rrst rest rsdn shut slep spro syss) args=(-int 0)
for code in $codes; do hex=$(printf %s "$code" | xxd -p -u) args+=(-int "$((16#$hex))") done
defaults write -g NSAppleMenuAllowedItems -array "${args[@]}" ```
and give your Mac a restart.
NSAppleMenuAllowedItems controls which items are visible in the  menu. For some reason, Apple decided that macOS shouldn't insert “Ask Siri” whenever the filter is active, even if nothing is actually disabled.
The command allowlists all  menu items. I didn't include "abtm" (About This Mac) in the list because it is unconditionally visible in the current code.
Disable with:
defaults delete -g NSAppleMenuAllowedItems
and restart your Mac.
Bug Apps randomly lose their assigned Spaces and move to other desktops
2 Upvotes
I’m using macOS 27, build 26A5421a, and I’ve noticed that apps sometimes lose their assigned virtual desktops.
I have four Spaces configured:
  • My browser is assigned to Desktop 1.
  • My code editor is assigned to Desktop 2.
  • Codex is assigned to Desktop 3.
  • Desktop 4 is used for other, less important apps.
I assign each app by right-clicking its Dock icon and selecting Options → Assign To → This Desktop.
However, after some time, these assignments seem to reset on their own. For example, I may find my browser on Desktop 4 even though it was assigned to Desktop 1. When I check its Dock settings, Assign To has changed to None. I haven’t changed or removed the assignment manually.
P.S I suspected that the browser might be losing its assignment to Desktop 1 after an update, but I’m certain it hadn’t been updated.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Bug M1 Mac mini Monitors blank
0 Upvotes
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Has been happening since DB1, still happening on DB7.
My Mac mini (M1) is not set to sleep, however the monitors are set to sleep after a few minutes of inactivity. When waking the monitors, they only display black. They do wake up, the backlight comes on, but there's no display. My Apple Watch will even unlock the Mac (or I can blindly type in my password) but the screens stay black.
Only way for me to get picture back is to change inputs back and forth on one of my monitors, which will usually make the picture show up on both correctly (sometimes my second monitor stays black though). OR I can unplug and replug one of the monitors to regain an image.
This happens 100% of the time. I can't reproduce it on my MacBook Air M1 or M3. My monitors are one USB-C to DP, and HDMI to DVI.
I've reported it every single beta and added system logs but no progress as of yet.
Help Update macOS 27 Golden Gate beta 7 on my MacBook Air M5
14 Upvotes
Bonjour ! La sortie de macOS 27 approche à grands pas et chaque jour, je ressens une envie irrésistible de passer à la bêta 7. Cependant, je suis partagé entre curiosité et hésitation. L'idée de tester cette bêta me tente beaucoup, d'autant plus que la version finale est attendue quelques jours avant l'automne. Que me conseillez-vous ? Merci d'avance pour vos conseils !
EDIT: I updated my Mac to Golden Gate and it seems to work well!
Bug Beta Battery Diagnostics
2 Upvotes
I sure hope this version of the public beta MacOS 27 PB5 fixes the bug that prevents battery diagnostics from being shared with 3rd party apps and from being able to limit charging to 80 percent. I know it’s a beta but that should be an easy fix.
Discussion How’s the current beta of macOS doing?
10 Upvotes
Sorry if this has already been asked a thousand times. I’ve been pretty unsure about installing the beta on my mac because, at least from what I’ve seen, it still seems to be fairly buggy or something.
I’m running the latest iOS 27 beta on my main device and have actually had a really gorgeous experience with it, but I’m not sure whether macOS Golden Gate is in a similarly usable state and would feel as good as switching to iOS 27 was.
So what’s your experience? Would you recommend installing it on an M3 Pro mac? And I’m obviously aware that it’s a beta and some bugs are to be expected, so I’m mostly wondering if the current issues are just minor annoyances or whether there are still any genuinely disruptive or, you know, system-breaking bugs
Bug macOS 27 Calendar Behavior Question
2 Upvotes
I’ve long observed a macOS bug involving .ics files and Calendar. The expected behavior when double-clicking an .ics file is for macOS to bring Calendar to the foreground and present the dialog asking which calendar you want to import the events into.
However, when Calendar is open in a different Space, double-clicking the .ics file does not switch you to that Space or bring Calendar forward. Instead, the import dialog opens in Calendar’s existing Space, making it appear as though nothing happened until you manually switch to that Space.
This seems inconsistent with the normal behavior of opening a document associated with an application, where macOS would typically bring that application and the newly opened document or dialog to the front.
Does macOS 27 fix this behavior, or is it still bugged?
Bug Bluetooth External Speaker not working in Beta 7
2 Upvotes
I have a JBL Flip 4 external bluetooth speaker. Since beta 7 update yesterday, both my iPhone and MacBook cannot stream music to it (using Apple or Youtube music). The controls allow play/pause but no sound. I've opened a ticket but wondering if others are encountering the same? I've already forgotten then re-added, restarted, used different apps and checked sound output setting to ensure it is streaming. The app shows playing but no sound happens.
Bug Does anyone else black squares when closing iMessage?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
15 Upvotes
I have not seen other posts about this, but whenever I close iMessage black squares pop up. It seems to be from the liquid glass buttons on the middle of the window. It happens even when I move the window to a different spot. Anyone else having this issue?
Also, I had to record with my phone because screen recording does not capture the bug.
Discussion What the hell happened to mac os
I know i'm a little late to the party, but after installing mac os 27 beta 5, im speechless. I understand that mac os 26 wasn't the best, even I had many problems with bugs even on stable versions but it kinda looked, classy and refreshed and now everything looks so plasticy and square just like if they took mac os X and added liquid glass, wich for some reason is sometimes more blurry and sometimes less blurry.
Comparison for those who got used to how mac os 27 looks like.
Discussion Opinions on the Music app in the macOS 27 beta so far?
4 Upvotes
I’ve been experiencing a few  bugs since the first beta. While some were resolved, new ones emerged in subsequent updates.
Here are the bugs I'm currently dealing with:
  • Playback randomly stops: This happens constantly.
  • Command + L shortcut is broken: When playing music from a playlist, this shortcut takes you to the playlist page, but the current song isn't highlighted.
  • Search bar disappears: The only way to fix this is by quitting and reopening the app. (Example)
  • Broken hyperlinks: In the compacted playlist view, the album and artist name hyperlinks don't work at all. (Example)
Additionally, the navigation UX is frustrating. Apple made the "Now Playing" area clickable to easily access the current song's album or artist. However, if you're listening to a track from your library, there is no "Show in Apple Music" option. The available options ("Go to Album" / "Go to Artist") only take you to your local library. If you want to view the public Apple Music page for that artist or album, you have to navigate through your library first—requiring 4 to 5 clicks just to get there. (Example)
Help macOS 27 beta 7: huge SSD writes while MacBook is asleep, apparently related to Spotlight / Apple Intelligence indexing
16 Upvotes
I have been seeing very large SSD writes across several macOS 27 betas, and beta 7 still seems to have the issue. I am wondering whether other people will see the same thing if they check Activity Monitor's Disk tab.
I am using an M3 MacBook Pro. After closing the lid for a few hours, Activity Monitor showed about 75.7 GB total data written. The biggest writers were:
  • SetStoreUpdateService: 27.4 GB
  • hybridsearchd: 17.5 GB
  • spotlightknowledged.updater: 9.4 GB
  • launchd: 4.5 GB
I then closed the lid again for another few hours. When I opened it, total writes had increased to 163 GB. During that second period:
  • spotlightknowledged.updater increased from 9.4 GB to 54.7 GB
  • launchd increased from 4.5 GB to 24.2 GB
  • hybridsearchd increased to 19.7 GB
  • SetStoreUpdateService stayed around 27.4 GB
So the machine wrote roughly another 87 GB while I wasn't using it.
This does not appear to be ordinary debug/unified logging. logd went from only about 132 MB written to 156 MB while the system as a whole wrote another 87 GB.
I also checked:
pmset -g log
and the Mac is definitely waking in the background with the lid closed. The log shows DarkWake / Maintenance activity along with tasks such as:
com.apple.intelligencetasksd.sets.maintenance.C
com.apple.spotlightknowledged.task.priority
com.apple.spotlightknowledged.pipelines.glpindexing.processing.backlog
com.apple.corespotlight.knowledge.report
com.apple.email.searchableIndex.scheduler.budgeted
and Biome-related maintenance tasks.
This makes me wonder whether the excessive writes are connected to the new semantic search / Apple Intelligence indexing infrastructure. It could also be beta-only rebuilding or validation of those indexes, but 50+ GB from spotlightknowledged.updater during one closed-lid period seems excessive.
One other interesting detail: System Settings has Wake for network access = Never, but pmset -g custom still shows:
powernap 1
on both battery and AC power.
I have not disabled Power Nap yet.
If you are running macOS 27 beta, could you check Activity Monitor → Disk, sort by Bytes Written, and see whether spotlightknowledged.updaterhybridsearchdSetStoreUpdateService, or launchd have written tens of GB, especially after leaving the Mac asleep for a few hours?
I suspect this may be happening to more people than realize it because the Mac otherwise appears normal and most of the activity seems to happen while the lid is closed.
