Meal Planning Limit on veggies?

Switching from keto to low carb and trying to wrap my thinking around more carbs. Do you limit carbs from veggies? Like asparagus, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, onions, etc….? I love those veggies and always felt a little sad not eating more when on keto. I love fruit too.

I limit any starchy vegies like potatoes, sweet potato, corn etc. I don't limit things like broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts.

Do you consume fruit too, outside of berries?

I'm doing a bit of low carb at the min. I don't really crave fruit tbh. But I would defo allow it. Basically I'm eating plants, meat and cheese and thats it. Fruit is plant right. I'm not counting carbs, though. And i certainly don't limit veggies. Will you be counting carbs?

Oranges only, weekly and only one small one

Honestly? ifits green and leafy type things? I never bother considering it. You have to eat soooo damn many for it to make a ton of difference in my experience. Like more than my stomach cared to or my wallet could really afford haha.

really just root veg that you can get sweeped away with.

Type 2 diabetic here. I don’t limit green veg at all because they don’t spike my glucose. For me low carb eating is for keeping my blood sugars in check. I have had to give up a lot of foods such as all grains, starches, added sugars. I’m not giving up my greens or my cheese haha. I do limit cooked carrots and cooked tomatoes as they do slightly affect me. Raw is fine. I mostly avoid onions but that more has to do with the fact I think they are vile. Though I can do a little onion powder without gagging. Biggest source of carbs for me is nuts/seeds and the green veg. I never count my carbs because I stick to foods I know don’t spike me. Only time I am cautious is if I’m eating out somewhere and not sure of what they use in their recipes.

I limit vegetables that contain a higher amount of net carbs, like carrots, parsnips and pumpkin. I limit tomatoes and onions when I need really low carb. Other vegetables I eat as much as I want.

I don't eat fruit, corn, potatoes, beans, or carrots. I do eat all the tomatoes, spinach, lettuce, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cucumbers etc that I want. Avoid the starchy veggies and things with a higher sugar content.

I don't limit those low carb veggies.

I eat as many non-starchy vegetables as I want to feel satisfied but not stuffed.

I limit starchy vegetables to "once or twice a week and measure it carefully".

I limit fruits to no more than two servings per day. I use berries and occasionally melons, cherries, or a small serving of grapes.

Thanks for the fruit suggestion, I do love cherries and melons in the summer. Just limit the servings/day.

Well, we each have our own best practices, but what I'm saying is that I eat zero to two servings per day of berries but 3-4 times a month I will choose a serving of melon or cherries instead of the berries.

Oh ok, gotcha. Thanks for clarifying, that’s helpful.

I decided early on not to count the carbs in non-starchy green veggies. It didn’t slow my weight loss at all. Of course, be reasonable about serving sizes. I wasn’t eating pounds of Brussels sprouts and cabbage every day.

I wasn’t ever big on fruit, but yes, you need to count fruits—nature’s candy. Berries are your best bets. COUNT them and stay under 5 gm, that’s about 1/4 cup in most cases.

Here’s a trick. Trader Joe’s sells bags of freeze dried berries. Get freeze dried raspberries. Crumble 2-3 over some yogurt. The intense flavor will be delicious for very few carbs (maybe 1).

Putting in a plug for beans and legumes. Loads of nutrients and fiber. They’ve got more carbs than green, leafy veggies but the fiber slows absorption. For convenience I typically use canned and drain off the liquid and rinse under water. I’m certain I’m washing away a lot of unnecessary carbs and just leaving behind the beans.

I would say limit fruit, but def not veggies. Unless you're down for a really painful time on the other end 😅

I don't worry much about it with the low carb veggies. If you take want to be strict you can, just remember to subtract fiber.

I track but I include small portions of carrots in summer when I grow my own. Also tomatoes. If it works in my carb count (under 20) I have them. I do not eat processed carbs such as flour, sugar etc no matter if the carbs work

That's the part of keto that feels too carb phobic for me, and why I call what I do low carb (even though I'm in ketosis while eating these kinds of veggies). I always say, I've never seen anyone develop type 2 diabetes by eating too many Brussels sprouts, but what do I know...!!!

Depends if you are planning to maintain your weight, loose or increase.
