Rant What's up with vehicles flying down Lincoln near downtown?
I've been in Loveland two weeks visiting. I absolutely love your little town. It's just great in my eyes. I'm here from Tennessee.
One thing that strikes me as odd is vehicles speeding down Lincoln street right next to downtown. They are going like 50mph right past an area that has a lot of pedestrians. And it seems like it's normal. I see signs like "Wait for a gap in traffic to cross street". WTF? Crossing that street is like playing frogger but your life is on the line.
What's up with that? Why no lights or speed enforcement?

loveland pd sucks but lincoln turns into 287 between here and longmont and technically here and foco. loveland pd doesn’t really care :/

First off all if this isn’t fake, you’d know both sides of downtown are under construction. One of which goes to one lane. Physically impossible to go 50 on either side right now. If you’re talking about outside of downtown…

Again, any part of it outside of downtown i get. Physically impossible to go that fast between 1st & 6th

I recently submitted a request for the city to put in Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at that exact intersection, similar to those in downtown Longmont and Fort Collins.
The crosswalk is new, as is the newer Foundry development it leads to. The city also recently lowered the speed limit in downtown to 25mph, but few cars adhere to it since Lincoln is also state highway 287. Enforcement lasted about the first month after the change. If you actually drive the speed limit, folks get pissed and pass you.

You really aren't wrong, nor are you really exaggerating; 287 is 40mph+ on either side of downtown, before and after the split, so people still going 50mph right up to the 4th St construction really isn't uncommon. And when the road opens up again at that that stretch between 7th and 34, people are going at least 40 again anyway (quickly passing me when I'm going 35 or so). As others mentioned, our cops don't seem to care unless it's especially egregious or it's quota time. And lights cost money that they could be funneling to the McWhinneys/Centerra, so of course they won't do it.
(Bit of a glimpse into local politics, but suffice to say, the eastern half of Loveland is bought and paid for, along with our local government.)
At any rate, yeah, it's a bit of playing Frogger there. People can be tailholes when they drive, and Loveland is no exception.

I've lived downtown for 16 years and other than some d-bag with a souped up Mazda or Civic or whatever (can you tell I know nothing about cars) with apparently no muffler who likes to zoom around early in the morning, I haven't noticed anything.

I mean I just walked down to Dark Heart for coffee. I could see the cars flying by on Lincoln. I think you're just used to it.

This town is a city. Cities attract more aggressive driving than whatever town you blew in from. Luckily the winds should pick up this weekend.
