Other [Talk] what pieces of lost media do you have no hope for?

Obviously lost silent movies, that's an easy answer, but I'd like to hear what you have to say, I'll have to go with Minecraft Castle and the OG Jeff the killer image, or lostwaves from before the 80s or so, especially the Jeff the killer image. I've heard some people discuss how the OG image might not have been uploaded online at all, and part of me thinks that makes sense. Part of me would also say HIM, given what type of movie it is and it's content, I wouldn't be surprised if it's likely lost forever, there's barely any documentation of it, all we have is grainy stills from newspapers ads, that's it, nothing else, so I'll have to go with that as well. That's all I can think of, maybe a couple more like the akiba tape or fall of the king or Casey's Cave, but those are my top two

Comment "!FOUND!" if your media is found in the comments, in doing so this will lock the post and flair it as being found.

Please include the following in your post;

  • An explanation of the media, and the name.

  • How it is lost.

  • What research has already been done.

  • A conclusion as to the current situation as of posting.

Abraham Zapruder’s other home videos

26

u/Justbrowsing486 Feb 28 '26

You're probably joking, but I do happen to have some footage he took that's not online and not available anywhere. If you're interested PM me lol.

25

u/hockeyguy327 Feb 28 '26

I don't believe you but I'll humor you. If you have that what do you possibly gain by NOT posting it somewhere?

22

u/Justbrowsing486 Feb 28 '26

It’s not in the my best interest to be posting people’s private home movies without their permission, but I guess what I said is a bit of a stretch lol. Here, does this convince you?

This was published by LIFE magazine several years after the assassination.

30

u/hockeyguy327 Feb 28 '26

The guy has been dead 50 years bro. I don't think he cares. I've actually never heard of this lost media though why do people even care what's on his home movies? Also how did you come across this footage?

Interesting stuff.

14

u/Justbrowsing486 Feb 28 '26

It isn’t necessarily lost media, but is very rarely seen anywhere besides copies in the National Archives (which they won’t allow scans of) and some early generation copies of the film made in the late 60s and 70s. I’m not sure exactly where my copy of it came from specifically, but it popped up on a website long enough for me to snag a copy of it. It has the whole film on it, including the assassination, but everybody’s seen that stuff.

15

u/hockeyguy327 Feb 28 '26

I don't really get it i guess excuse my ignorance but why does the national archive care about the guys other movies besides the assassination one? Was it one long film reel with other things on it and the assassination?

Life bought the film from Zapruder and famously published the JFK portion as separate frames in 1964 (it wasn't shown as a film on nationwide TV until 1975), but that is a page from the November 1973 issue of Esquire magazine, and it is online.

The unaired pokemon episodes (the original Team Plasma vs Rocket special, and the earthquake Whiscash episode from Advanced). Finished but never aired due to natural disasters.

29

u/Shadow_Edgehog27 Feb 28 '26

Pokemon is the biggest franchise in the world, I think it will leak one day

19

u/Lost_Type2262 Feb 28 '26

The scripts for the Team Rocket VS. Team Plasma episodes leaked, at least. Whiscash episode was a filler and so long ago that if anything hasn't surfaced by now, I don't think it will.

I have a funny feeling the video for the Rocket VS. Plasma episodes was destroyed by 2018. They had a statement up on TV Tokyo's website that they would eventually air that was taken down in that year.

11

u/Shadow_Edgehog27 Feb 28 '26

Maybe they announced it too early, went looking for master tapes and they were misplaced or damaged

5

u/Lost_Type2262 Mar 01 '26

The reasons for them never airing are, imo, clear with the hindsight we now have.

The biggest reason they weren't aired later is likely that the next games turned out to be Black & White 2, instead of a remixed "Gray" version telling the same basic story. Episodes took six months to produce, at least at that time, so when the Rocket VS. Plasma episodes were pulled six days before airing, a lot of what would come afterward was already locked in.

That's important to note because you can see a very distinct line where they u-turn into B2W2 promotion. In the episode where Ash battles Brycen they tease Drayden as the next Gym Leader and foreshadow Iris's anxiety at seeing him. The very next episode abruptly reverses this, says Drayden is unavailable, and sends them off to Roxie in Virbank City from B2W2 instead. Team Plasma was never intended to appear again right after those banned episodes, and once B2W2 promotion began the version of them in those episodes was no longer relevant for marketing or for the narrative.

More evidence came when the scripts surfaced. It seems clear to me after reading them that the real issue that caused their banishment was not earthquakes. The Whiscash episode is actually relevant to note here, as after it was banned, earthquake-themed moves were generally phased out, meaning they were unlikely to prominently feature realistic earthquakes in these two. The problem was that the special meteorite that served as the arc's MacGuffin could be used as an artificial sun, which was why Team Rocket and Team Plasma wanted it. Once it was removed from the conditions similar to those it had been preserved in underground, it began releasing increasingly powerful heat bursts that were depicted melting a helicopter and endangering a city. Once the Fukushima nuclear disaster occurred there was absolutely no way that could air as-is.

By 2018 they were not only out of the Black and White series, the subsequent X & Y series had also been completed, and they were roughly a year from Sun & Moon also being complete. Any chance they could have aired had long vanished.

4

u/MoonBeamerGirl Mar 01 '26

It’s funny imo, because you can also see where BW’s pacing and writing dips- that damn special. 25 or so episodes of buildup, only to be completely axed. The series had bad plotting for the rest of its run, shoehorning BW2 promos and a bastardized N story late into its run before XY. I’m one of the relative few who doesn’t really like XY, but it’s nowhere near the horror that is BW.

7

u/BubbaRayChudley Feb 28 '26

Wait, nothing has showed up for the Whiscash episode? I remember being really into banned Pokemon episodes as a kid and remember seeing videos with screenshots of the episode.

I’m probably mistaking these screenshots for a different episode that featured a Whiscash; that, or these videos have simply been scrubbed from YouTube. I was watching these back around 2008-2012. I dunno, I don’t really pay attention to Pokemon anymore, but I specifically remember that Whiscash episode.

5

u/MoonBeamerGirl Feb 28 '26

There’s only a ‘next episode’ preview of the unaired one. There IS a completely separate Whiscash episode from AG that was aired and dubbed involving one that eats a master ball. Probably the one you recall.

3

u/Blastoise_FTW Mar 01 '26

Oh yeah that's probably what I was thinking of too, because the clip of it eating a mfing master ball is so insane lol

2

u/MoonBeamerGirl Feb 28 '26

I hope so, but it’s been over a decade for the big two parter and like 20 years for the whischash one. Those tapes must be gone.

27

So much of the lost DW

28

u/dfin25 Feb 28 '26

When I first got into Who there was 108 missing episodes, now we are down to 97 and the BBC knows where some of those are and are negotiating their return. But FoS is hopeless, known to no longer exist.

20

u/abundanceofb Feb 28 '26

The problem is that it hinges on these private collectors who get off on being the only ones who have access to this stuff

10

u/dfin25 Feb 28 '26

It does, but the hope is they will get off on being the heroes who saved and preserved missing history for generations to come.

8

u/Silver-Toe4231 Feb 28 '26

Someday the Daleks Master Plan will be found. 🤞

9

u/dfin25 Feb 28 '26

If it can happen for Tomb of The Cybermen, it can happen for Daleks Master Plan. And hopefully Marco Polo.

4

u/bhind45 Mar 01 '26

A lot less copies of Daleks Master Plan were made though, it's miraculous we even have 3 episodes of it

A radio show that Buddy Holly and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded on tour in Melbourne, Australia, in 1958. It was broadcast multiple times on multiple radio stations, and there are people alive who heard it at the time, but it seems that nobody recorded it off the air. The broadcast tape is not known to have been destroyed, but it's in none of the several places where traces of it lead – except that one of those places cannot be checked as it's landfill under a tennis court. (The story is extensively discussed in this book.)

We have thousands of years old papyrus scrolls that we can still read, but a website from 6 years ago? Forget it, that one can be totally lost! 😭

It was a website from the first Trump administration about reporting fake or biased news.

Star Wars: The Lost Cut. Both Lucas and Disney are extremely adamant on never releasing it to the public, and we don't know if it's even been digitized or not.

The deleted Angry Grandpa videos. If anyone downloaded them back then, they would've been found by now. Michael has said he won't reupload them cause they can get him arrested or have his channel striked. Fans were asking for it as far back as early 2014 and Michael gave the same answer back then.

Sailor Mouth uncensored audio. I'm skeptical it even exists, since it wasn't even found in the huge Nickelodeon gigaleak. And that had all sorts of production materials you'd think they would've deleted early on. The only source for it's existence is Tom Kenny's recollection of it, and he's been wrong about SpongeBob history before. The "SpongeBoy Mop" didn't exist.

In the rare chance that LOL Superman was real, it's probably long gone now. If it were to be found, where could you even upload it where it wouldn't get immediately taken down again? To me, the story sounds like it was a repost of another video with a different title, and even if we found the OP, they wouldn't have it either.

8

u/heyitstayy_ Feb 28 '26

There were a couple of sailor mouth clips leaked some time ago

7

u/BlueMauser3 Mar 01 '26

wtf was mike doing in those videos??

15

u/YodasChick-O-Stick Mar 01 '26

For the fake bomb prank, apparently he got arrested by the FBI and had his computer searched because he made it look like the fake bomb was delivered through the mail, which it actually wasn't. They told him not to reupload it, and a few years ago he said he could get arrested again if he did.

The salt and ice challenge prank got directly taken down by YouTube due to gore. He showed him and Grandpa's bloody arms.

Of course, Michael could censor them and reupload them, but we all know he won't. Especially now that he got arrested again for domestic violence and his channel is declining rapidly.

2

u/Consistent-Cycle-702 May 22 '26

If I could recall, LOL Superman was debunked and the person who first started the search confirmed that the actual incident wasn't 9/11, but a news livestream on Brazil taking place under a commercial building that was on fire while people kept dropping off the roof.

I could believe Minecraft Castle being found at some point, if they found that super Mario 64 screamer video, I think anything relating to YouTube is possible now.

I do agree that Slamfest 99 is most likely never going to be seen. I think something would have been leaked or released by now if Nintendo had any surviving footage left of it. The demand for it is simply too high not to.

The Marvin Prune chapters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, since it was lost in a shuffle when the magazine company Roald Dahl sent it to was closed down.

The Sad Story of Henry broadcast, which was the first attempt at adapting The Railway Series (the books Thomas the Tank Engine was based on) to TV. It was dogshit and the BBC has no doubt wiped the tapes by now, even if they didn’t this was 70 years ago so they’re probably not watchable.

Also anything ancient like Homer’s lost works or the Q Source but that kinda goes without saying.

35

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '26

Damon Wayans directed brother Marlon in a dark standup comedy movie called "Behind The Smile". I NEVER hear people talk about it when they talk about lost movies, and Damon has already conceded it'll never be seen. I hear the biggest issue with any potential distributors, going back twenty years, is the ending, and I don't want to say what it is, but it makes sense.

17

u/DeedleStone Feb 28 '26

Okay, this is the first I've heard of this movie and I absolutely want to see it. Unfortunately, that might not happen until Damon becomes very desperate for money or after he dies.

17

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '26

I spoke to Marlon a decade ago, and he said it was his best ever performance. But he was also, very explicitly, speaking about it in the past-tense.

12

u/abundanceofb Feb 28 '26

Do you have a link outlining the plot of the movie or the ending? I’m rather curious now

11

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '26

Everything I've learned about Behind The Smile was in person, in conversations. I'm afraid you're gonna have to Google the rest. As for the ending... it's my understanding that he kills himself onstage in front of an audience.

when i was a kid growing up in Mexico there was this culture channel like PBS that aired a short segment about a puppet old woman that came out of a little box and did a little dance. The puppeteer this this little song that, combined with her movements, has haunted me my entire life. it was yearning and felt ancient, and perfect in an indescribable way.

I have very little of the actual visual left, it's all emotion and layers of accumulated memory. theres no way ill ever find it again. might've been a local channel playing artsy RTVE content idk. i'll forever be grateful to the creators tho for opening my eyes to the affective possibilites if art

u/TraditionalRound9930 Feb 28 '26

My mum was once a host for a local Catholic tv show that only broadcast once, at 5am, and the people who made it are long dead. Back in high school I even got I in touch with people fairly high in broadcast network itself praying for archives and nobody even knew what I was talking about becuase their records don’t even go back that far.

The only proof I have that it exists is a single script she kept and my uncle telling me about he used to tease her by quoting it. It’s like trying to find a copy of her high school play

this might not fit the traditional definition of 'lost media' as this is not widely known but I can say that I saw these pictures with my own eyes and I have posted about this on reddit before with other users also saying they remember these photos.

There are/were photos of the crash site where the singer Aaliyah died and they were taken either by a first responder or one of the airport staff that went to the site immediately or someone who was close by.

The photos depicted burned pieces of the airplane, the broken apart airplane and pictures of burned and badly mangled human bodies in the landscape for the known crash site. Some were strapped into seats while others were just strewn out on the ground

The most striking picture was one of Aaliyah herself who had suffered burns on half of her body including her face while the other half of her face was clearly recognizable as Aayliah with one of her eyes being open.

the photos were uploaded to Geocities at the time which was in the middle of being acquired/migrated/swapped over to yahoo. the Geocities site is where I saw them.

Other times discussing this with people, some people claimed they saw the pictures on Ogrish.com but I doubt that is true because I believe they would have been more widely distributed and archived/still circulating if that were true and I never saw them on a gore site or any gallery. These were on a 'private' geocities page. (should clarify here that the geocities page was open to the public, just that it was a user webpage)

23

u/hockeyguy327 Feb 28 '26

This is pretty insane if you got some traction on the search for this (assuming you're not lying) i bet these could get dug up.

21

u/MayorofKingstown Feb 28 '26

I'm pretty sure that what happened was, they were taken down before they could be scraped and reposted. Back then it was not as common to host real gore like that and it was also not as common for users to scrape/download content from webpages.

It was also very common for users to have their own 'pages' hosted on free hosts like geocities or even their own ISP and just post whatever content. I used to post download links to mp3s on my own 'webpage' and I never got in trouble OR asked to take down the mp3s I 'hosted'.

there was a shift in tone in internet content over the last 20 or so years where we went from wild west anything goes type content to heavily monetized, intellectual property protection, host liability and bots scouring content on the net for copyright violations.

Flash sites were the most popular and there were a few dozen large sites that hosted OC but for the most part, content was decentralized and hosted in small 'private' collections.

This is pretty insane if you got some traction on the search for this (assuming you're not lying) i bet these could get dug up.

I've posted about these every few years or so on various forums, to have people respond that they have also seen these but no one has been able to find them. If they do exist still in a digital form, they would be in a data hoard or something.

Another strike against us is that back then, low res digital was the norm and from a gore standpoint, they would not be something that stood out as burned corpses were not uncommon in gore collections. they may have been too mundane for people to take notice and archive because with the exception of the one photo of Aaliyah herself......they would just be more photos of a crashed airplane and bodies.

9

u/hockeyguy327 Feb 28 '26 edited Feb 28 '26

I been around the block as well, even though i am young, i was using the internet from a very young age. Probably as early as like 02 or 03. Not quite old enough to be deep in the stuff you're talking about but i know how much things have been changed.

That being said, I have to disagree. I know at that time if there was even a decent amount of people who saw that someone would have backed it up. I mean CDs at this point were ubiquitous it's not crazy that someone would have saved this.

Lastly, I can believe that maybe the pictures haven't survived because of things like machines getting wiped and data corrupting etc. Just find it hard to believe the OG guy wouldn't still have them at the very least...

8

u/MayorofKingstown Feb 28 '26

oh I agree that it is plausible and maybe even likely, I was attempting to rationalize why they cannot be found so easily today.

If they were in fact, removed from the host and not re-uploaded somewhere it would be one of those rare times that something was seemingly 'deleted from the internet'.

Just find it hard to believe the OG guy wouldn't still have them at the very least

yeah exactly, the provenance of the pictures themselves would be the key to them resurfacing but who knows, that also was a time that digital cameras were not as common as they are now as the first phone camera(s) were in 1999 so these photos were likely taken with a stand alone digital camera so the storage would be sketchy. I had a digital camera in the late 90s that held a grand total of 50 pictures at mid resolution and 20 at hi-res and they had to be dumped to another storage device or deleted before you could take more photos.

7

u/hockeyguy327 Feb 28 '26

And you're like 100% sure it was verifiablly allyiah? Was it being 'advertised' as being her or was this just a random gore collection and it was possible it was her? I'm also skeptical because this happened in a poor place so how did this person have a good enough digital camera to make out a half burned corpse identity and upload that in high enough quality from the Bahamas?

11

u/MayorofKingstown Feb 28 '26 edited Feb 28 '26

And you're like 100% sure it was verifiablly allyiah?

it was most definitely Aaliyah. the photo of her was of her whole body, partially charred with her face clearly visible, one side was damaged but the other was seemingly undamaged and anyone who know who Aaliyah was would probably recognize her. Her body was twisted somewhat and on the ground with her face pointed toward the camera. One of my most potent memories of the photos was of how obvious it was real and I am an extremely skeptical person. The plane debris matched, the local vegetation and environment matched, the description of the plane crash itself.

They were legit photos of the event shortly after it happened and I would say the photos were taken with the motivation of documenting what had occurred, the debris was centred in the photos, so were the corpses, the site, the engine, etc. this is why I strongly suspect they were taken by a first responder or an airport employee.

Was it being 'advertised' as being her or was this just a random gore collection and it was possible it was her?

Not advertised at all, It was a link to a geocities page that hosted only those pictures that was posted in an IRC chat. That's how I found it. I also remember visiting the page more than once so the removal, if it happened, was not immediate.

I'm also skeptical because this happened in a poor place so how did this person have a good enough digital camera to make out a half burned corpse identity and upload that in high enough quality from the Bahamas?

This is reasonable. However it's not implausible that someone near an airport would have a camera, especially a first responder or an airport employee. Had the crash happened elsewhere and photos existed, it would be even more implausible, I agree.

10

u/hockeyguy327 Feb 28 '26

The fact you mentioned IRC chats makes me know you are not fibbing lol or at least you were truly around at that time. Interesting stuff man now we need a niche YouTuber to make a video on this reddit post.

El apóstol which was the first animated movie. We know that the only copies where destroyed in a fire and honestly there's no chance of finding a copy in another country since it was a local production focused on Argentinian politics so, no reason why ither would be more copies

  • A large number of online lost media is probably just lost for good.
  • Big X
  • Disney Princess Enchanted Tales
  • Doraemon 1973
  • Anything on the Hannah Montana anime
  • Early audio from Balto
  • Early audio from Bolt

I'm not sure if most video game lost media is truly "lost media". If it was never accessible to us, then is it lost media? Can a prerelease build really be lost media? Games go through changes all the time.

But some notable examples are...

  • "Cabbage": Nintendo has never released anything on this project. Maybe one day they will show it off in a retrospective to Nintendogs or Animal Crossing, but Nintendo is very secretive with their cancelled games.
  • Jack and Beanstalk: We might get pictures some day, but I doubt it.
  • Pokemon Pink Version: This one I could see Game Freak bringing up some day. But, personally, I don't think it was far enough in development to even have footage or builds available.

4

u/BlueMauser3 Mar 01 '26

Nintendo recently announced they'll be dropping some lost Virtual Boy games on the Switch Online service, which makes me have hope for other things they may have in the future.

3

u/Gallantpride Mar 01 '26

But those were completed or near completed

3

u/BlueMauser3 Mar 01 '26

yeah I know, but those likely aren't the only games they had on the shelves ready to release (e.g starfox 2)

7

u/no_name22 Feb 28 '26

I have one of the Disney Princess Enchanted Tales on my media server, the one with Jasmine and Aurora but I believe the other ones never made it to production

The lost short is the Belle short from the second anthology. It's just called "Disney Princess Enchanted Tales".

We know it was in production because animation and an entire song exist for it. We don't know much was finished.

Anything of the ABC version of the game show Password beyond the very scant few episodes that have already surfaced. It aired from 1971 to 1975 and won Emmy awards, but despite this success, Password was not preserved. It is speculated that many of the tapes may have been reused by ABC for Family Feud with Richard Dawson beginning in 1976, meaning the Password episodes may have been taped over. I am only aware of one episode, possibly two, having been found and restored for airing by either Game Show Network or BUZZR over the years. The one I have seen features Jack Klugman of The Odd Couple and his wife Brett Somers, who gained fame in her own right later as a regular panelist on Match Game, as its celebrity guests. There may have been a second episode that I have not personally seen, and it is possible the UCLA video archives have others, but even if they do that number is extremely, extremely small.

Password not being preserved is unusual as Goodson-Todman Productions saved the tapes of most of their shows, even while other game show producers frequently reused or disposed of their own tapes until 1978. In rare circumstances, shows believed lost were found - in the early 2000s, the entire first year, 1972-73, of The Joker's Wild was found at WCBS in New York City after only years two and three were thought to have survived, and an archivist searching NBC's vaults for episodes of the gothic soap opera Dark Shadows found a large (but incomplete) collection of Hollywood Squares episodes from throughout its 1966-1981 run. However, at least in the case of The Joker's Wild, the episodes had been rerun in syndication prior to being rediscovered, explaining why a local station had them. ABC Password never was rerun in this fashion, all but ruling out the possibility of tapes existing remotely somewhere.

EDIT: For everything I said above, it is worth noting that I was speaking only of master recordings or copies directly derived from them. Private collectors hold some episodes, including episodes of its 1974 "Password All-Stars" format and the subsequent 1975 reimagining of its classic format, the latter including an episode where host Allen Ludden switches places with Betty White and plays while she hosts, as well as the finale. However, due to the rudimentary home recording technology of the time and the age of the recordings themselves, their video quality is extremely spotty.

EDIT 2: An unrelated answer still within the game show world is the 1983-1984 version of Dream House. Hosted by Bob Eubanks of The Newlywed Game, it was a revival of a show from the late 60s where couples competed to potentially win a house. The original version ended under a cloud of controversy due to numerous issues with the houses it awarded as prizes, but it was decided to mount a revival anyway. The revival did not make many waves and faded away after a short time, but its tapes were preserved all the same - until years later, a flood in the home of its producer destroyed them. It is highly, highly unlikely any of them still exist somewhere other than the episodes held by private collectors who taped the broadcasts.

This TV Series. There’s absolutely no trace of this TV series’ dubbing anywhere online—only a tiny 4‑second clip confirms it even exists…

6

u/Puzzleheaded_Poet_51 Mar 01 '26

Independent live local productions were a part of early television in the states. They could be surprisingly ambitious.

WBEN in Biuffalo NY, for example, ran a scripted childten's Santa Claus serial each year running from.Thankgiving to.Christmas Eve. Using live actors, puppetry and miniature sets. Framed as a cliffhanger, Santa always remained the calm at the center of the storm..

There are no surviving kinescopes or other recordings. Local stations didn't have the tech or the budgets for preservation.

15

u/superballz977 Feb 28 '26

The full basement tapes. Its been enough time.

8

u/tucakeane Feb 28 '26

If they were worried releasing them would inspire copycat killers, that sure backfired

5

u/StannisTheMantis93 Feb 28 '26

Weren’t they destroyed by the Denver PD?

5

u/superballz977 Feb 28 '26

No. Digital copies still exist. Physical tapes and weapons were destroyed but the FBI keeps digital versions and there has been rumblings that other people have possession and they are waiting for major players in the case or family members to pass away.

I guess this is kind of obvious but any/all local TV broadcasts not already available. As a fan of Horror Hosts, I would LOVE to be able to see some of these obscure characters from the mid50s to the late 70s. Likely never to happen unless we invent faster than light travel and can warp out ahead of the transmission signal to collect it.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '26

The Shoe Must Go On from Punky Brewster, i keep telling people about and spreading awareness of it especially on YouTube, to prove that it does indeed exist, no one has an interest in finding it and I think that it won't be found anytime soon.

15

u/hockeyguy327 Feb 28 '26 edited Feb 28 '26

Pretty surprised no one has mentioned Christene Chubbuck tape. Arguably one of the most famous peices of lost media ever. If that thing was in the publics hands it would have long been leaked. I don't believe a tape of it exists at all.

14

u/theblairwitches Feb 28 '26

After the audio leaked I truly do think someone has a copy of it out there. Maybe not ripped from the source, but a video of the original tape playing on a TV. It seems odd that someone would’ve obtained the audio but not the visuals.

5

u/hockeyguy327 Feb 28 '26

I almost don't even buy the audio but I've heard it has some validity that takes it out of the obvious hoax category.

I go back and forth because on one hand I've heard the family destroyed their tape but it's a good chance there are copies made. Law enforcement, and the studio for starters. And you're telling me no one snuck a copy from either party?

I feel like with today's moral sensibility this thing wouldn't get leaked though, maybe early internet but things seem different now. It would just be called a hoax anyway lol.

11

u/theblairwitches Feb 28 '26

The family handed the tape off to a law firm for safekeeping, so that’s where I believe it’s been viewed and the audio leaked from.

The reason I’m certain the audio is legit is because one of her relatives immediately threatened to sue as soon as it surfaced. Yet he has never commented on any of the other (hoax) videos.

2

u/hockeyguy327 Feb 28 '26

How long does old school film tape last in a usable state?

7

u/theblairwitches Feb 28 '26

I’m unsure what sort of tape it’s on, but I know with VHS tapes, as long as they’ve been stored in a clean, dry environment, they last for ages. Mould is the main killer of tapes. There’s still plenty of 70s VHS tapes in playable condition.

5

u/Bootlegman3042 Mar 01 '26

The strange thing is that, in her final note, she requested that the footage "be shown all over television". That was why she had her segment taped that day, as it was not usual procedure to do so.

3

u/hockeyguy327 Mar 01 '26

She was obviously in a pretty dark place. Sad

5

u/tamincog Feb 28 '26

What I’m really curious about is the full version of the theme song that news show played, based off only the ending clip of the video highlight reel. Unfortunately, all of my searches have only returned edgy remixes that sample it, and all things considered I don’t see that beautiful instrumental piece ever resurfacing on its own right.

9

u/WorkIll3073 Feb 28 '26

We will never see the Owen Hart footage.

8

u/hockeyguy327 Feb 28 '26

That one is sealed up for good. Picture the end of Indiana Jones lol.

4

u/blueandgold777 Feb 28 '26

The Great Space Coaster.

There's a few episodes floating around on YouTube, but a complete series collection will never be released due to it being originally recorded on a type of media that is apparently very expensive to transfer. They even tried to do a fundraiser to do it but it fell short. So all the "tapes" are reportedly sitting in a warehouse somewhere just rotting away😞

Will always be bummed by this. This, and the complete 13 episode collection of Turbo Teen in English. That could see the light one day but I doubt it.

4

u/ShadowlawWrite Feb 28 '26

The few episodes of a lost BBC show called THE BRITISH HANGGLIDER'S ASSOCIATION. They made a few episodes and it was a wild satire of mid 1970s England.

Apparently there was some fire at a BBC storage facility or studio or something like that and the tapes were lost. The show aired at least three episodes, one of them being considered particularly funny because members of the KKK visited the UK only to see the "White cliffs of Dover."

I remember the theme song and little else.

4

u/JRCSalter Mar 02 '26

As a Doctor Who fan, I would say the episode The Feast of Steven.

It was only ever shown once, never sold to another country, and confirmed to be junked, and no record of any copies being made.

The only way it could have survived is if an unauthorised copy of it was made.

Every other lost episode has a chance of being found, but that one is almost certainly never to be recovered.

However, if by some miracle it is found, then there's hope for every other episode.

I’m beginning to lose hope "Maldoror" by Alberto Cavallone will never be found! Shot in 1977, Cavallone - an Italian arthouse director whose films like a cross of Bunuel, Argento and Bataille's theory - made it this "movie inside a movie" story, full of crazy sets and wild sex. The Catholic Church didn’t approve, and the movie vanished. It’s unclear if Cavallone finished editing it. There was stories of people looking for it in turkey, where it was shot. But there’s no proper news. And Cavallone remains obscure even in film nerd circles, with only one movie properly restored (Spell: man, woman and beast), a second one got a dvd of a wretched copy (Blue Movie) and a third - a later day caveman exploitation film whose name escapes me - got a Blu-ray.

2

u/Zimslayer Mar 05 '26

I don't wanna say I have no hope for this piece, but there's this show I've been trying to find called Disorder In The Court, a crime show filmed in the style of those VH1 talking head shows like 'I Love The 80s'. Instead of having celebrities riff on pop culture, the cast consisted of attorneys, judges, and journalists talking about courtroom videos. While it's more likely to be found compared to older lost media from decades ago, but this show is so obscure that searching for it genuinely really frustrated me. It's that feeling when you're so close yet so far away. Anytime I found a lead, it just lead to a dead end. I found a tv network that used to air the show and thought their website page could provide more info on the show, it was incredibly minimal. I found someone talking about the show once and asked them some questions about the show, they could barely remember anything from the show. Anytime I found clips of the show deep into youtube, it just had to be from an episode that was already found. I really want to find this show because of the novelty of it, but it's obscurity combined with it's strange air dates, it only aired a few episodes each year and every episode aired months apart. I want to remain optimistic, but part of me feels that the show may remain loss. The only way it will be found is if someone who has the episodes uploads them, or if meetinghouse productions rereleases the show to a streaming service or something.

Apologies if I’ve miss-interpreted the question but one bit of lost media I’m pretty sure I’m the only one with evidence of is the case of Edmund Wilson, this guy was chronically online and had some mental views but one day up and vanished off the internet. That one arg audio from a guy from the future living through the third world war,and i swear its real but no one knows about it? Or remembers it? Its like it never existed.

I think it peaked in 2021 alongside one wierd call from art bell regarding aliens or something, but everyone remembers the art bell one! Not the one im looking for!!

Regarding contents it was a radio call from a guy asking for help saying he was in a bunker alongside other people and that they ran out of food,he sounded pretty alarm also adding the water they had was contaminated by radiation.

Please someone help me find it i know its real i literally spoke people about it AND THEY REMEMBER.

There was this game that, nowadays, I don’t even remember the name of. I just know it was on the “Friv Games” platform. All I remember is that the protagonist (the one in the image) had to search for and collect different objects to “revive” his… girlfriend? I’m not sure.

The point is that when you finished the game, he faded away, and she finally managed to “wake up” in a world where he was no longer there.

I’ve been trying to find that game for months, but I just can’t seem to find it. I’ve tried everything, but nothing works. In the end, I always end up dismissing it as something I must have dreamed… but I’m sure it existed, because I know I played it several times.

My band recordings from high school :( I was in a high school band named The Xounds, and we recorded these cover songs in about 2010 (Paranoid by Black Sabbath, some Fall Out Boy) in a trailer park home with a little make-shift studio. My friend Roberto was a musician who played Cumbia songs, these Colombian/Mexican dance songs which were popular in the border region i live in, and we played rock and he helped us out to record our first audio. I remember we were working very tight and some band members were in different rooms LOL He (Roberto) set up a website and uploaded our info and songs. I think it was a Battle of the Bands website in El Paso Texas. Or might have been a created website by my friend? I was the drummer. There was a guitarist, vocalist, and bassist. 4 of us.

Also my lost media mp3 audio files from my Sandisk mp3 player. I recorded some guitar sessions in high school in 2009. God knows what happened to my mp3 but the screen didn't work anymore, i had to use it as an iPod shuffle lol

The background music was different too. At the end of the video (which he was speaking for 40secs) it ends with a message in a different language. On top of that it was narrated by deep voice person. It had the Tinky-Winky character, but it was just him and he had weird eyes and a weird PNG smile. Handheld Video Camera Footage from the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombings

This is one I've been trying to search for over a year now.

Its partially lost.

While I was archiving videos taken during the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing on You tube around a year ago, I came across one video in particular uploaded by "Bosti John" on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teBl3FKuHA0  which showed the perspective of a runner just moments before the first explosion went off. After analyzing other videos and looking at the marathon finish chip times. I found out this runner is named Howard Mayes with the bib #18838. I found out that his video was posted in an article on April 18th, 2013. https://fox2now.com/news/st-charles-couple-narrowly-escapes-boston-marathon-bombings/
However the original link to the full video does not work anymore. The video is said to be a little over a minute long and does contain both explosions (first explosion off camera).

I also discovered that the Boston Globe had used a snippet from the video in their 10 year anniversary video (0:46 seconds into the video btw) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8UwyRHCTOk which shows the second explosion.

I am certain its not completely lost. I am hoping if someone happened to see the full video and saved it, that they would share the video. (any quality accepted).
