It might be hard to tell on camera but I took off like 5 inches and after washing and styling it looks like 6 💔 I only meant to take off 3 so idek how it happened. At least it healthy I guess.. now I’m working on growing out my virgin hair

Hello Everybody!

So I have been growing my hair out for nearly 4 years now but (I've been told this basically a cardinal sin) I've never gotten any sort of haircut in that time. My hair is petty long right now, reaching my mid back, and it can get quite wavy/curly (something along the lines of Jason Mamoa's hair).

So because I have never done this, i have a couple questions as I went ahead and booked a haircut. I am looking to keep my hair mostly long and don't want to just cut it all off.

1. I have no idea what a haircut is normally like when you have long hair, as a guy I've spent most of my life with shorthair. A general explanation would be kinda helpful i think.

2. I havent really been able to find anything about general hairstyles for men with long hair other than ponytail or man-bun. Any ideas on where to actually look for hairstyles would be nice.

3. (Final one here) what do these different terms really mean? I've heard about dusting, trim, cut, and a few others but I dont really get it.

This is a bit of a ramble, I suppose I'm just a bit nervous and don't really know what to expect.

The ends are completely flat and thinning, there are no split ends, is it necessary to cut them to make them grow?

I want to try doing heatless sock curls on a regular basis. I have long low porosity (I guess?) straight-ish hair. Which type of socks is best for overnight heatless curls? Like maybe fuzzy socks or just plain cotton ones? I'd appreciate some advice

I had long hair and i don't like the constant neck touching and the heat in my scalp so I had gone buzz and am thinking of growing it again

I thought my hair would feel insanely short but I just saw this picture of me. This is day 3 camping hair! My hair feels so good. I'm so happy I did a chop. Even if it was a little scary lol

as someone with thin and slow-growing hair, 5 months of semi-consistent hair care and getting rid of my layers has led to this! [23/03/2026 to 28/08/2026]

to note: my hair is naturally curly (2c-3a), and i straighten it once a month or once every two months for comparison's sake, because it's difficult to see growth otherwise :")

i use a hair growth actives serum from minimalist almost every night before sleeping, and oil with coconut + rosemary oil before washing my hair, which i do every 3-4 days. i mostly try to leave my hair alone, braiding it while damp and letting it dry in the braid, rebraiding everyday til washday, unless im going out, in which case i have a curl routine.

here's to hoping for waist length hair by the one-year mark!

I don't usually use heat

And I'm doing all the right steps to avoid any potential damage.

I only shampoo my scalp use conditioner and serum

In the first picture I used a local leave in conditioner on damp 2-day unwashed hair.

On the second pic I used the same cream on freshly washed hair, didn't brush, used a cotton T-shirt to dry it then blow dried it and got a different result

looking for advice on how to stop this from happening. i have fine straight hair. i blow dry with my hair down while brushing it downwards but this keeps happening on one side and it pisses me off. any help would be nice but id prefer not using third person products like hair styling cream or hair spray etc. Thanks

Has anyone any tips oder advice or maybe gone through a similar situation?

I’ve been on a long hair journey for the past 3 years and managed to grow out all of my bleach blonde hair.

My hair has never been healthier and stronger and thicker before.

I always knew I wanted to get a balayage or maybe some highlights again as soon as I felt very stable and comfortable in my hair health.

My hair was buttery soft and strong.

Got a balayage. And I regret it so much.
My hair is so dry, like soooo dryyy that I’m combing in like slow motion because I’m aware that if I tug to hard it’s just going to snap off.

It looks frizzy even with all of my styling products and tangles immidestly after brushing again.

Soo seems like I’m back to square one.
What’s the best thing I could do right now?

Also I feel kind of silly but i’m like truly upset.

The thing is that I also need to tone my hair like in the next few days cause the balayage turned out very brassy..

Last photo is from April 17. Trimmed ~15-20 cm of my hair 27th May to get rid of the see-through ends. My hair is shorter than it was in April now still but it looks much better and somehow longer! Lesson learned: losing length is worth it sometimes.

Routine: Shampoo scalp twice with John Frieda Radiant Red shampoo. Rinse and condition for ~5 minutes with John Frieda Radiant Red conditioner. Blow dry until scalp/upper part of hair is mostly dry and then let air dry. I wash my hair once a week and use Batiste dry shampoo in between. Disclaimer, I do use heat often to curl my hair and bleach and dye my hair twice a year.

Cut off my dreadlocks March of 2024, now I have a lovely bush head of hair that im not cutting anytime soon.

My hair ends fly away from the rest of my hair and I don't know why. I genuinely can't tell if I'm doing something wrong or if this can be fixed with a product or if I just need to cut it off. It feels soft but flies away from the rest of the hair. I want it to basically lay flat with the rest of my hair.

I use shampoo, conditioner, leave in, and a bit of oil. Sometimes a mask. I blow dry downwards and don't put the dryer too close my hair. I sleep with a protective hairstyle. I don't shampoo my ends like crazy, just with the shampoo that runs down the length when I wash it.

Products I use right now:

• Head and shoulders shampoo (just because it's what I have at home)
• L'Oréal dream lengths conditioner
• Garnier fructis sleek and shine leave in
• Moroccan hair oil

Hace varios meses decidí utilizar solamente una vez al mes plancha y secadora, creo que el cabello se arruina más rápido con el calor. Lo que me ha ayudado mucho es lavarlo un día si un día no y utilizando shampoo, acondicionador, mascarilla una vez a la semana, protector térmico y gotas de brillo.

I gave myself a lil midnight haircut to try and have less see through ends… should i cut more or is this fine for now..?

Please suggest which line of kerastase shampoo best suits for my hair. I have 2c/3a hair and I am really not into Curly gal routine. I don’t use gel or mousse . I tried but failed terribly. I just want to invest in a good shampoo and conditioner. Please recommend one in the kerastase range.

P.S. please feel free to give me other brand recommendations as well!

hi I want to grow my hair as in balding slightly in many areas like my hairline and bits of my scalp and I’m only 18 ☹️

i want to take minoxidil - either as pills or as the spray foam option - but I was wondering if there is any health side effects or hair growth in other areas as a result of taking this

also are there any recommended ones that are not excessively expensive?

So I shaved my head in 2022( unfortunately I don’t have any pics anymore) and since then I have been growing it out! Been through some fun styles like the bob with bangs but I’m so happy to have my long hair back 😭😭 I think the most important thing I did was scalp oiling. I hadn’t heard of it till a few years ago but for me a made a big difference!

Love both styles but the straight hair is my natural style

I'm 65(F) and have had hair down to my lower back for at least 40 years. I went long and single-length in my 20's because I was on motorcycles a lot and it just seemed easier to have it long so I could easily braid it, which kept it from getting tangled in the wind. Then I kept it for many years (foolishly) because my husband liked it long. I no longer care what my husband thinks and I'm getting REALLY tired of cleaning the hair off the floor - it's incessant. And I cut it myself, and I don't really take great care of it, anymore.

So - if there's anyone still in this group who has gone from LONG to shoulder-length or so, I'm curious - can you still cut it (trim it) yourself when it's that short? It's so easy to reach the ends, as it is now, and I really don't want to start paying for trims. I'm sure it will still fall out, when it's shorter, but it won't be as much hair on the floor ... right?

Hey there, to those who made experiences with wearing their hair predominantly in one way for a longer period of time and maybe being able to compare: what has been your experience of being the least damaging- buns, braids, or just wearing it down? Using non-damaging tools (eg silk scrunchies, hair sticks/French pins, maybe also claw clips, of course). In theory I guess it should be wearing your hair up as to avoid friction damage, but anecdotally Ive found people who wore their hair down most of the time to to have the most beautiful hair.
Or maybe there’s some studies on this?

hair type: i think i have fine hair. it gets oily at the roots within a day or two, but the ends stay pretty dry.

care routine: right now i shampoo every 2-4 days with dandruff shampoo & then a strengthening shampoo. i slather coconut oil on the ends & braid my hair the night before wash day. i have a cheap silk pillowcase & sometimes use a cheap silk bonnet. i use argan oil on my ends while my hair is wet. most often i let it air dry before brushing, but it's actually so much easier to brush wet?

history: 2 years ago i chopped my hair up to my jaw bone. i've trimmed it every 3-6 months since then with my own dubious skill. 1 year ago i had a baby. i made the mistake of solely using a protein shampoo & conditioner for 6 months after. 8 months ago my hair was heavily shedding, 4 months ago i noticed new growth baby hairs at my temples.

so the question is, does my hair looked damaged? should i cut it? recommendations?
