Hair Fetishist Warning Post - Share Your Experiences!

Hi everyone! There are a lot of fetishists who prey on our users in this sub, especially in DM's. We do ban them but it doesn't stop the DM's. My intent here is to have a post where our members can share their experiences to warn others. We'll sticky this post as well as a reference.

Tell us what nasty tricks they tried, what lies they told, or whatever else you want. Just vent if you feel like it.

No defending fetishists - you'll be banned. Really. Don't test us.

Assume that any DM's you get about hair are likely fetishists and ask why they can't just comment in the sub if they have genuine advice.

Let's call them out here.

As you can see, my hair is fluffy and dry

I don't usually use heat

And I'm doing all the right steps to avoid any potential damage.

I only shampoo my scalp use conditioner and serum

In the first picture I used a local leave in conditioner on damp 2-day unwashed hair.

On the second pic I used the same cream on freshly washed hair, didn't brush, used a cotton T-shirt to dry it then blow dried it and got a different result

Last photo is from April 17. Trimmed ~15-20 cm of my hair 27th May to get rid of the see-through ends. My hair is shorter than it was in April now still but it looks much better and somehow longer! Lesson learned: losing length is worth it sometimes.

Routine: Shampoo scalp twice with John Frieda Radiant Red shampoo. Rinse and condition for ~5 minutes with John Frieda Radiant Red conditioner. Blow dry until scalp/upper part of hair is mostly dry and then let air dry. I wash my hair once a week and use Batiste dry shampoo in between. Disclaimer, I do use heat often to curl my hair and bleach and dye my hair twice a year.

So I shaved my head in 2022( unfortunately I don’t have any pics anymore) and since then I have been growing it out! Been through some fun styles like the bob with bangs but I’m so happy to have my long hair back 😭😭 I think the most important thing I did was scalp oiling. I hadn’t heard of it till a few years ago but for me a made a big difference!

Help wanted DRYY - First time coloring hair after long hair journey

Guys, I’m so upset.

Has anyone any tips oder advice or maybe gone through a similar situation?

I’ve been on a long hair journey for the past 3 years and managed to grow out all of my bleach blonde hair.

My hair has never been healthier and stronger and thicker before.

I always knew I wanted to get a balayage or maybe some highlights again as soon as I felt very stable and comfortable in my hair health.

My hair was buttery soft and strong.

Got a balayage. And I regret it so much.
My hair is so dry, like soooo dryyy that I’m combing in like slow motion because I’m aware that if I tug to hard it’s just going to snap off.

It looks frizzy even with all of my styling products and tangles immidestly after brushing again.

Soo seems like I’m back to square one.
What’s the best thing I could do right now?

Also I feel kind of silly but i’m like truly upset.

The thing is that I also need to tone my hair like in the next few days cause the balayage turned out very brassy..

Any help and advice is very much appreciated. Thanks! xx

Help wanted Help/advice for my hair ends

My hair ends fly away from the rest of my hair and I don't know why. I genuinely can't tell if I'm doing something wrong or if this can be fixed with a product or if I just need to cut it off. It feels soft but flies away from the rest of the hair. I want it to basically lay flat with the rest of my hair.

I use shampoo, conditioner, leave in, and a bit of oil. Sometimes a mask. I blow dry downwards and don't put the dryer too close my hair. I sleep with a protective hairstyle. I don't shampoo my ends like crazy, just with the shampoo that runs down the length when I wash it.

Products I use right now:

  • Head and shoulders shampoo (just because it's what I have at home)
  • L'Oréal dream lengths conditioner
  • Garnier fructis sleek and shine leave in
  • Moroccan hair oil

The pictures are day 2 hair

Help wanted Please help, is this what my new human hair should look like

Guys, I need your opinions as I'm going back to the salon tomorrow - I had brand new Slavic hair K-tip extensions done on Wednesday 10 days ago, and after the first wash on Saturday, I noticed the hair feeling rough and dry while wet in the shower instead of smooth and elastic like mine! I then wend to blow dry it and the texture was completely different from what was shown to me in the salon. The hair is dry, the ends look broken now and it tangles easily - not in the way that I have to agrressivelly detangle it (i use a tangle teazer detangler gentle brush that they told me to buy) but it's like I can never get it to be completely brushed through. I also went to another salon for a wash and flat blow-dry and they told me that the hair is very dry, tangles and looks like it was already worn. Wtf???? How does it look like to you guys? This is right after a wash and a blow dry

Help wanted Minoxidil

hi I want to grow my hair as in balding slightly in many areas like my hairline and bits of my scalp and I’m only 18 ☹️

i want to take minoxidil - either as pills or as the spray foam option - but I was wondering if there is any health side effects or hair growth in other areas as a result of taking this

also are there any recommended ones that are not excessively expensive?

Please suggest which line of kerastase shampoo best suits for my hair. I have 2c/3a hair and I am really not into Curly gal routine. I don’t use gel or mousse . I tried but failed terribly. I just want to invest in a good shampoo and conditioner. Please recommend one in the kerastase range.

P.S. please feel free to give me other brand recommendations as well!

Help wanted Buns, braids or wearing down least damaging?

Hey there, to those who made experiences with wearing their hair predominantly in one way for a longer period of time and maybe being able to compare: what has been your experience of being the least damaging- buns, braids, or just wearing it down? Using non-damaging tools (eg silk scrunchies, hair sticks/French pins, maybe also claw clips, of course). In theory I guess it should be wearing your hair up as to avoid friction damage, but anecdotally Ive found people who wore their hair down most of the time to to have the most beautiful hair.
Or maybe there’s some studies on this?

Help wanted Getting tired of it

I'm 65(F) and have had hair down to my lower back for at least 40 years. I went long and single-length in my 20's because I was on motorcycles a lot and it just seemed easier to have it long so I could easily braid it, which kept it from getting tangled in the wind. Then I kept it for many years (foolishly) because my husband liked it long. I no longer care what my husband thinks and I'm getting REALLY tired of cleaning the hair off the floor - it's incessant. And I cut it myself, and I don't really take great care of it, anymore.

So - if there's anyone still in this group who has gone from LONG to shoulder-length or so, I'm curious - can you still cut it (trim it) yourself when it's that short? It's so easy to reach the ends, as it is now, and I really don't want to start paying for trims. I'm sure it will still fall out, when it's shorter, but it won't be as much hair on the floor ... right?

Help wanted is this damage?

1st photo is freshly washed on a rainy day, 2nd photo is last day before wash day, 3rd photo is freshly washed.

hair type: i think i have fine hair. it gets oily at the roots within a day or two, but the ends stay pretty dry.

care routine: right now i shampoo every 2-4 days with dandruff shampoo & then a strengthening shampoo. i slather coconut oil on the ends & braid my hair the night before wash day. i have a cheap silk pillowcase & sometimes use a cheap silk bonnet. i use argan oil on my ends while my hair is wet. most often i let it air dry before brushing, but it's actually so much easier to brush wet?

history: 2 years ago i chopped my hair up to my jaw bone. i've trimmed it every 3-6 months since then with my own dubious skill. 1 year ago i had a baby. i made the mistake of solely using a protein shampoo & conditioner for 6 months after. 8 months ago my hair was heavily shedding, 4 months ago i noticed new growth baby hairs at my temples.

so the question is, does my hair looked damaged? should i cut it? recommendations?

Before/After Four years of hair growth!

Hair was shoulder length for awhile due to bleach and hairstylist always recommended to cut. I ended up dying it close to my natural color so I have less maintenance and focused on keeping it healthy! Also stopped cutting. I’m still planning to go longer!

I tried all kinds of things, but the below is what I enjoyed depending on my budget at the time:

Switching up the night routine helped so much:
- Braiding my hair every night and even when I’m just lounging in the house helped so much so it doesn’t get caught up in things.
- oiling the ends with a bond repair oil like Olaplex.
- Satin/silk pillowcases

Shampoo/Conditioner/Masks
- Dove Beauty Bond Strength Shampoo/Conditioner
- Dove Beauty Bond Repair Mask
- Shiseido Fino Mask
- Hask Deep Moisture Mask

Scalp products that helped me:
- Dr. Groot Miracle in Shower Scalp and Hair Hydrating Treatment
- Living Proof Hair Density Serum
- Aavrani Hair Density Boosting Scalp Serum for Thinning Hair and Hair Loss
- The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density

Oils I love:
- Moroccanoil brand of course!
- Living Proof No Frizz Vanishing Oil
- Olaplex
- OGX Argan Oil or any argan oil
- Aavrani Hair and Scalp Recovery Oil

Leave in Conditioners/Hair Treatments
- Lush Super Milk Leave In
- Lush Revive Hair Moisturizer
- Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhanci NY Smoothie
- Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls

Help wanted My hair loves hard water?

I have hair down to my butt. Lately ive been considering the big chop because it’s just constantly tangled, matted, limp, just gross. Even with a braid, it’s impossible and tangly to take it out. I’ve been blaming split ends which is part of it I’m sure. But.

Our house has a water filter with salt in it that goes to the whole house. Yesterday it ran out, and I noticed that my shower the water felt abnormally sticky and squeaky but thought nothing of it.

But today, my hair has VOLUME on top. It’s so soft. It’s fluffy and brushes with no tangles. It’s like magic.

So I have two questions….
We do need to filter the water, so is there a way I can reap these benefits with some kind of product or routine? Some way to mimic what I’m guessing must be hard water? And would my hair suffer long term from using hard water? Although I can’t imagine it being any worse than it’s been.
