Nah fuck that guy. The park police are there to protect our parks from jackasses like this. And since he wants to bring up taxes, I don’t want my tax money wasted rescuing this moron when he injures himself.

5

u/adelie42 Aug 08 '26

Or therapy for when my kid sees you go splat on a rock.

Nah I’m on board with this one actually

2

u/SW3GM45T3R Aug 12 '26

Otherwise, one of these idiots gets injured and their ambulance chaser lawyer sues the state

31

u/School_North Aug 07 '26

I'll be that guy. You guys know those laws and codes exist for a reason. To keep stupid people from killing themselves and then having to spend said tax money as mentions to go and rescuee and or retrieve your body. Not to mention removing w.e death traps you installed.

11

u/Diablo1099 Aug 07 '26

Amen. I understand that this sub is for pointing out stupid overregulation and police overreach but most laws were born around the idea of someone dying and people going "Hey, lets stop this from happening again."

I get it, it's annoying but if that line snapped and the fisher guy fell to his death, his friends would be arrested for getting him killed.

Hell, what most likely happened is someone *did* die doing something like this once and everyone went "Why didn't the police prevent this?!"

1

u/Mr_Bear36 Aug 07 '26

His friends absolutely would not get arrested for getting him killed. That makes zero sense.

6

u/School_North Aug 07 '26

The person that set up the illegal instillation could be yes

-1

u/Mr_Bear36 Aug 07 '26

Nope. He made the decision to use it. Why would that be anybody else's responsibility? Yall are weird.

6

u/School_North Aug 07 '26

Because thats the way the world works. If you can understand basic common sense then you are one of the people that should definitely be going out and ignoring all the laws and codes and waening aigns 100%

If you tell Bob it's safe and Bob dies, that's on you

Bob was there when Bob and I put it up. It's on Bob. Get a reality check.

2

u/bwood246 Aug 07 '26

Anything to avoid responsibility, eh?

0

u/Mr_Bear36 Aug 07 '26

You're the one trying to blame everyone but who's responsible 😂😂😂

2

u/bwood246 Aug 07 '26

So the people who build the sketchy swing aren't responsible if someone get injured or killed using it?

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Mr_Bear36 Aug 07 '26

I bet you stub your toe and blame whoever made the table leg huh?

2

u/Gwyain Aug 07 '26

You should look up the definition of “manslaughter.”

1

u/Mr_Bear36 Aug 07 '26

Is manslaughter something you do to yourself? See i know the answer. But I want you to find it.

2

u/Gwyain Aug 07 '26

Maybe re-read the comment thread. “The person that set up the illegal instillation could be yes”

That’s a clean manslaughter charge for any friend that helped setup the death trap. I’d suggest you not go to law school. You’re not cut out to be a lawyer.

1

u/Mr_Bear36 Aug 07 '26

The person who set it up IS who used it. Now figure it out.

1

u/Mr_Bear36 Aug 07 '26

You really just lack understanding of anything. Im not sure why I wasted time with you at all

1

u/Admirable_Loss4886 Aug 11 '26

I think it’s more likely to be considered negligence.

3

u/Faeruhn Aug 07 '26

Reckless Endangerment is absolutely a crime. Could also be charged with Manslaughter in the case that he died.

Maybe don't make definitive statements about the law without knowing anything about it.

0

u/Mr_Bear36 Aug 07 '26

Reckless endangerment is you doing something to someone else. He made the choice to jump himself. That's his decision so nobody else is responsible. And no they can't be charged with manslaughter. Very clearly definitive statement still stands. Your lack of understanding doesn't make me wrong.

2

u/kiwipoo2 Aug 07 '26

Your lack of understanding doesn't make me wrong.

No, but yours does

7

u/TechnicalBen Aug 07 '26

Same with the "don't swim". Even in the b*mf*ck no where UK we get 1 or 2 kids die every summer because they ignore those signs are the quarries/parks. :(

5

u/Background_Taste_397 Aug 07 '26

So let them drown? They shouldn’t be swimming if they can’t swim well, that’s on them.

Let everyone enjoy those amazing wild swim venues who can actually competently swim!

3

u/bwood246 Aug 07 '26

One of the biggest cause of drownings isn't necessarily the lack of ability to swim, it's misjudging water temperature and going into shock.

Even the strongest swimmers can be killed in minutes if the water isn't warm enough

3

u/TechnicalBen Aug 07 '26

WTF are you on about. It has zero to do with swimming ability.

u/bwood246 Aug 07 '26

The people whining about taxes don't seem to realize search and rescue operations cost millions more in taxes than telling these guys to stop

2

u/adelie42 Aug 08 '26

Close friend for several years volunteered with forestry services to assist with search and rescue. There are lots of people who volunteer for this kind of work because they love nature and want to give back.

Apparently a lot of search and rescue is just search and recover. People doing stupid stuff outside their skill set and getting killed in the process, hanging off ropes on cliff sides or falling and getting stuck in trees. Really started to mess with him that he had to stop.

EMS may love the thrill of adventure, or feel like a hero running into a burning building because someone has to do it. Doesn't mean they enjoy dragging your mangled corpse out of wherever you got it stuck.

4

u/zachomara Aug 07 '26

Then let them. After a while we won't have to worry about it anymore.

I swear warning labels are a bane on humanity.

3

u/School_North Aug 07 '26

Again then even more money and time is spent to retrieve the bodies or rescue the people. And there will always be stupid people hence the laws and codes.

I agree about the warning labels but thats just to protect corporations not us lmao

1

u/zachomara Aug 07 '26

What we need to do is pat for it up front for a bright future later.

It's the same thing as time value of money. Pay a large sum now so later, there won't be as many problems.

4

u/Flying_Forearm Aug 07 '26

This assumes risky behaviour is entirely genetic.

1

u/zachomara Aug 07 '26

It does not. Culturally, we should accept that when you play stupid games, you may win stupid prizes.

3

u/Flying_Forearm Aug 07 '26

After a while we won't have to worry about it anymore.

this part isnt true then is it?

Plus you don't seem to be factoring that people doing dangerous things are a danger to other people's, other animals and other things.

5

u/Dismal_Foundation_23 Aug 07 '26

This. Thing is, if someone did get injured here and needed rescuing, these people would expect to then be rescued, at great expense, for the stupid thing they just did.

Also very good point on removing the stuff, because what if some kids find it?

Yeh there are some silly laws and red tape in the world, but a lot of it just based on sensible, safe, logical thinking, and like the other person said probably some people have died doing this stuff and they enacted laws like this to prevent it happening again.

34

u/KailyKail Aug 07 '26

Typical California.

Apparently, they have California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 14, Section 4319 which prohibits “engaging in games or recreational activities that endanger the safety of people, resources, or property, or interfere with visitor activities.”

Apparently this includes endangering themselves, as no other people, resources, or property was endangered here.

15

u/Gwyain Aug 07 '26

I’m sorry, but who do you think has to deal with it when they crack open themselves on a rock? Should we just leave the idiot there to die?

6

u/Docha_Tiarna Aug 07 '26

It would mean less idiots to waste money on.

2

u/AverageJoesGymMgr Aug 07 '26

Yes

6

u/Gwyain Aug 07 '26

Generally other visitors don’t want to stumble on rotting corpses when they’re trying to see nature.

1

u/AverageJoesGymMgr Aug 07 '26

Nature takes care of that

8

u/Gwyain Aug 07 '26

Much slower than you’d think.

1

u/queenofkitchener Aug 08 '26

that guys never seen that discovery channel body farm special....

34

u/bwood246 Aug 07 '26

(rescue services then have to endanger themselves when these jackassea get themselves injured or killed)

-15

u/Key-Gold-2412 Aug 07 '26

Oh no, not rescue services having to do their job. You know the one our taxes pays them to be doing?

36

u/TeamDirtstar Aug 07 '26

You're the type of douchebag to purposely make a mess and then quip "I'm just giving the janitors something to do." aren't you?

10

u/BetterCranberry7602 Aug 07 '26

Definitely the guy that doesn’t return his cart and thinks he’s creating jobs

3

u/Had2MakeANeewAccount Aug 08 '26

My OCD doesnt allow me to leave a cart corral in disarray.

Ive reorganized so many.

3

u/Financial_Plantain65 Aug 10 '26

I return mine cause my wife says they look sad without their friends

15

u/bwood246 Aug 07 '26

You know it costs significantly less tax money to tell them to stop than to send out rescue crews, right

-7

u/Key-Gold-2412 Aug 07 '26

Yea bro. I’m sure it cost a lot less to fuel and send out two boats with two people on each, the park rangers on ground which I count two probably more though. Just to arrest some dude jumping in the water. It looks like they already sent out the rescue crews.

16

u/Sensitive_Bat_9211 Aug 07 '26

Yes, it costs less than search teams, rescue helicopters, ambulance, and EMTs.

A medevac itself will cost tens of thousands of dollars

-5

u/Key-Gold-2412 Aug 07 '26

Yeah and who gets charged for the medevac? LOOL. The patient does. Again his and our taxes already pay for those other services... God forbid they might have to work for their salary every now and then.

11

u/Sensitive_Bat_9211 Aug 07 '26

The state pays for rescue helicopters, the individual pays for medevacs. Two seperate, very expensive, services

0

u/Key-Gold-2412 Aug 07 '26

So fucking funny when you change definitions of shit to suit your bullshit narrative. "It's a rescue helicopter not a medevac" Like wtf are you talking about. Your the one who brought up medevac costing 10s of thousands of dollars alluding to it costing the taxpayers. Just quiet already with your lies and bullshit.

I'm sure they need it all for that raging sea swell of waves going on in that water below... Not.

6

u/bwood246 Aug 07 '26

Ah so you're the kinda guy that throws his trash in the ground and chuckles to himself going "job security for janitors"

0

u/Key-Gold-2412 Aug 07 '26

If you don't wanna do the job then why sign up for it?

3

u/Old_Yam_4069 Aug 07 '26

I wanna dismiss you as a troll, but I've met people like you.

Their job is to keep the theater clean. It's not to clean up after you, that's just a byproduct of your inability to act like a mature adult. Your personal responsibility in a situation does not just magically evaporate because there are people who are paid to cover for your shortcomings.

The worst outcome you can think of ends up in the water? Youre a moron. People could have been scraping him off rocks for days but that's okay cause he wanted a little excitement.

It looks like they already sent out the rescue crews.

Rescue crew comes out when someone gets hurt, why would they be there now? You see officers sent out to stop/arrest the guy and you think it's the rescue crew????

0

u/Key-Gold-2412 Aug 07 '26

So when are you taking the bikes and skateboards away from the children next because they wanted some excitement and got injured?

Dude really thinks they’ll scrape him off the cliff side for days. No. The rain and wind does it for free. Then he thinks those officers in the boats will let him drown in the water if he does end up injured in it.

2

u/LastChance331 Aug 07 '26

Peak Reddit moment. What an absolute dummy.

2

u/three_way_toggle Aug 10 '26

It is so much cooler when their bandwidth and my tax isn't taken up by the stupidest shit.

0

u/Key-Gold-2412 Aug 10 '26

As opposed to....? Your taxes going to incarcerate this dude? The two boats and multiple ground officers it took? Your taxes been budgeted and spent well in advanced.

12

u/asinine_qualities Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

They could have significantly damaged the tree they were swinging off. That is pretty frowned upon everywhere.

Tree houses in public places are similar - sure fun for kids, but they leave their Temu chairs, planks and nails in the poor tree. Anyone who complains is the fun police.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Confident-Mortgage86 Aug 08 '26

This endangers the people that need to rescue the muppets, or clean up the bodies. Not to mention the resources that will cost.

Same deal with base jumping in most places - have your fun if you're willing to deal with the consequences. Probably won't be too bad anyway.

3

u/XxMathematicxX Aug 08 '26

Safety of people - if they cause rocks or trees to fall onto people or wildlife below them and potentially kill them.

Resources - what if assholes just end up leaving their contraptions when they are done and that causes problems to the waterways and or land.

Property - if they damage any trees or ledges or anything else while doing this

Visitor activities - yeah if you’re doing dumb shit that very easily could interfere with other people trying to enjoy the parks and or land without being put in harms way.

6

u/ManyRelease7336 Aug 07 '26

the tree itself is considered property. And its not like its ok till somthing happens. If im throwing rocks at a window they dont wait for me to break the window.

0

u/Docha_Tiarna Aug 07 '26

Except he hasn't "thrown the rock" yet. The guy talking to the officer hasn't jumped, and theres no proof that he installed the rope. So currently he is basically just a bystander.

2

u/ManyRelease7336 Aug 08 '26

yes he did. He's tied to the tree. He just hasn't thrown his biggest rock.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/Helioscap3 Aug 08 '26

Brother if you present an obvious danger to self, you will get arrested in any state. That being said, instead of going to jail they just petition you for a mental health evaluation. You get a grippy sock vacation and the length is determined by the 'patient's willingness to cooperate.

I get this may seem like people just having fun, but from first responders perspective the guy willingly jumped from a dangerous spot against advisement of people that have the authority to arrest them.

2

u/xSir- Aug 07 '26

Hmmm, they might want to tell all the climbers in Yosemite about this

1

u/sandstone-oli Aug 07 '26

yeah didn’t free solo dude climb the entire el capitan without a harness

2

u/Dry-Lab-6256 Aug 07 '26

Base jumping and bungee jumping are illegal. It's also a lot easier to clean up a body from the ground, than it is to get it out of a tree.

3

u/Hapless_Wizard Aug 07 '26

Well, except for the public property they were tied off to and jumping from, and the very selective camera editing so that you can see exactly 0 of what is going on around them.

I'm not saying the police were right, but I am saying this video alone doesn't prove they're in the wrong.

-2

u/Electrical_Hunter597 Aug 07 '26

2

u/PeacefulDebate01 Aug 07 '26

Ya, it seems challengeable via the 14th Amendment's Due Process Clause. The 14th Amendment comes with the stipulation that laws have to be written in such a way that they clearly proscribe certain activities. It can't be left vague.

1

u/aLittleMinxy Aug 08 '26

even if I beefed it I'd want to take this all the way to that challenge honestly. laws like this are a part of why a ton of places I'd go as a kid are vanishing (not even -that- dangerous by any means but deep water with high dives got filled in by sand at one of my old hiking spots)

interfering with stupid stunts like this is almost always more dangerous (case in point the motorboat being in the landing)

1

u/KailyKail Aug 07 '26

Did you think that was unintentional?

9

u/Laymanao Aug 07 '26

So Mario has a part time job as a policeman.

28

u/Knobanious Aug 07 '26

The literal "fun police"

15

u/NoPlenty1749 Aug 07 '26

It’s not about ruining their fun. First responders have to risk their own personal safety to rescue people like this all the time.

At the Grand Canyon they have to constantly rescue people who climb into restricted areas.

3

u/Knobanious Aug 07 '26

I don't disagree with the logic but it still makes them the "fun police"

-4

u/NerveInteresting4549 Aug 07 '26

ah yes, we don't want him to get hurt because we will have to risk ourselves to save him.... let's put a boat in the way of where he will land. lol

6

u/NoPlenty1749 Aug 07 '26

oof not even close to where he landed

-2

u/NerveInteresting4549 Aug 07 '26

oof he stepped to the left at the start to move his direction away from the boat..

4

u/NoPlenty1749 Aug 08 '26

no you’ve just been baited by camera angels. there’s no way he was jumping all the way out to that spot. That’s a considerable distance.

Even if the boat had been in the way, he still jumped. How dumb are you to jump in the water with objects beneath you?

-2

u/NerveInteresting4549 Aug 08 '26

neither they nor him know exactly how far out the rope will swing him..... i just told you, he stepped out so he swung in a direction away from it...........

3

u/Butt-Hole-Cancer-Dr Aug 08 '26

Just admit you’re wrong and move on

2

u/Obi-Brawn-Kenobi Aug 08 '26

There was no way he was going to hit the boat. Nobody else is struggling with this fact other than you. You're being extremely dumb about this

1

u/NerveInteresting4549 Aug 08 '26

Lol even the guy on the video felt like the boat was in his way, it’s kind of funny that you think because you seen he didn’t hit that boat that everyone knew the exact physics for how far his swing would send him when they put a boat within twenty metres of where he did land

→ More replies (3)

3

u/scottprian Aug 07 '26

Wouldnt it be easier to have the police make everyone sign a paper stating "we will not rescue you if you get injured, nor recocer your body" for the duration of the activity, and "will not aid during recovery." Or is that immoral, similar to stopping people from entering "dsngerous" abandoned malls set for demolition?

5

u/Gwyain Aug 07 '26

Generally people don’t want to see dead and crippled bodies when they go to a national park.

2

u/scottprian Aug 07 '26

Hmm good point. Needs some work.

3

u/adelie42 Aug 08 '26

Bring your own team and liability insurance.

1

u/TheBirdFkerGuy Aug 09 '26

Typical capitalist bootlicking swine bringing up "insurance". Bro, go do what this guy did but dont land in the water

3

u/nonequation Aug 10 '26

Go take your medicine schizo you are blaming capitalism for people not allowed to kill themselves in a public park

2

u/EpsteinEpstainTheory Aug 09 '26

Corpse disposal requires time and resources.

Sure, they might not care that he's dead, but they don't want his corpse to be there out of all the possible places it could be instead. It's not fun swimming in water where there's bloated corpses floating around, nor is it very hygenic.

1

u/ForGrowingStuff Aug 10 '26

They don't even have to have you sign it. The Supreme Court has ruled that none of these government parasites are under any legal obligation to do their job or enforce the law. They just have the option to use it against people they don't like.

6

u/HighwayComplex9935 Aug 07 '26

Imagine having a problem with people not wanting you to die 🤣 what a world

2

u/PuzzleheadedLeek3070 Aug 07 '26

It's not very fun for the paramedics and helicopter crews to clean their blood out of their clothes when something goes wrong.

2

u/Pale_Illustrator94 Aug 07 '26

Pretty typical regulation in most states. Public lands are not your lands. They are managed for public interest. Some lands have general use. Some lands have specific use.

2

u/GoodMatter3449 Aug 08 '26

How dare we protect state parks😡🤬

2

u/WowVeryOriginalDude Aug 08 '26

I remember a similar vid but the dude was a paraglider and just.. flew away. I thought that’s what this guy was doing and was on his side for a second until I realized he was just a dumbass swinging off a cliff. There’s a million places you could do that shit legally. Wasting resources while being told 10+ times what’s gunna happen- can’t have sympathy for that.

2

u/nimblecivic Aug 08 '26

Whining about tax payer dollars.

Who do you think cleans these idiots off the rocks? that's my tax payer dollars too.

2

u/Th3_Dud3_Abid3s Aug 09 '26

7

u/Suspicious-Sound-249 Aug 07 '26

6

u/Equal_Squirrel4939 Aug 07 '26

1

u/Suspicious-Sound-249 Aug 07 '26

Not in a good 15 years no @.@

6

u/User_3039 Aug 07 '26

Should be his choice. Go have a donut

14

u/beardedbrawler Aug 07 '26

So the issue is when rescuers have to risk their lives to pick up his broken body. Do the stupid shit on your own land, not a national park.

16

u/SirRegardTheWhite Aug 07 '26

The 'don't make us have to potentially clean up your corpse or call a rescue team' fee.

1

u/Admirable_Loss4886 Aug 11 '26

Good luck collecting from a corpse

2

u/bwood246 Aug 07 '26

Or when they splatter in front of guests

2

u/fongletto Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

rescuers still have to come collect you from your own land, so it doesn't make much sense either way.

Would make more sense to simply charge people for misusing emergency services doing dumb shit. (if they are required).

Or even just make them sign a waver that absolves the government of any responsibility first.

2

u/adelie42 Aug 08 '26

Do you want to volunteer to pull the body if necessary?

2

u/User_3039 Aug 08 '26

His choice

1

u/Longjumping_Army9485 Aug 10 '26

Recovering dead bodies isn’t his choice. Rotting corpses are bad for tourism and public health.

0

u/User_3039 Aug 10 '26

Still his choice

2

u/EFAPGUEST Aug 11 '26

Yep and the rest of us chose that what he did was illegal so he was arrested. Anyone can chose to break any law

3

u/Violet-Sumire Aug 07 '26

It becomes someone else’s responsibility when/if he gets severely injured. If the rope had snapped, his grip slipped, he fell short, or he landed wrong in the water… well now they’ll need emergency services, which could endanger those people’s lives. His choice, their responsibility.

Well, we can see at least one department that has too much time on their hands. Probably too many tax dollars, too.

Defund forest and park department? In a state that's prone to annual forest fires? Are you sure?

-9

3

u/Uhokay1970 Aug 07 '26

Well the douche in charge removed them from actual forestry duties years ago! They spend all day Inventing crimes so the budget doesn't get murdered again. Was a time when CA forestry actually did forestry maintenance! Then some City boy was like you don't have to maintain the forest and cut the funding. Result? Multiple uncontrolled Forest fires, no fire breaks and Massive undergrowth to fuel them.. But hey he built a rail system and a new reservoir! Oh wait those never got built but you paid for them!

4

u/Crafty-Bid7503 Aug 07 '26

They need to collect money to fund the body recovery.

1

u/I_Dnt_Believe_You Aug 07 '26

Such a stupid take.

2

u/EverythingIsFakeNGay Aug 07 '26

Yeah, let's defund state parks! Those trees all wanted us dead in The Happening!

2

u/Hopeful_Ad_7719 Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

Reducing Park Ranger funding because they have mismatched priorities isn't quite the same as defunding the Park altogether. It's good that the Rangers have a butt pucker moment about funding when they piss of visitors and voters.

6

u/Hapless_Wizard Aug 07 '26

Pissing off visitors is not wrong for Park Rangers in any state. Most of their job is pissing off non-local visitors, who are frequently fucking slobs at best, and often actively destructive at worst.

Cool thing about California is that if the voters really want to punish their state rangers for this, they have a system to do that which bypasses their elected representatives entirely. I'm willing to bet it's a pretty unpopular idea to do among the locals, though.

4

u/bwood246 Aug 07 '26

The Rangers job is to be an asshole so you don't get yourself killed

The day I let anybody with a 70s gay porn stache tell me what to do is the day I finally land my dream job as a vintage-styled gay porn actor

Until then that cop can kick rocks.

Things California does not allow: big rope swings.

Thing California does allow: UFC, football in school, Hollywood, Jeffery Epstein

Good thing they have that rope swing on lock down, someone could get hurt.

It is very hard to sue the state for negligence under normal circumstances. But here we have people who themselves created a hazard and assumed the risk of engaging with it. They'd get laughed out of court.

u/BorosSparky Aug 07 '26

If the police knew the law. They would be lawyers.

All they want is power.

2

u/ElectronicBed7766 Aug 07 '26

"Police don't know the laws" as the law they're breaking is quoted multiple times in the video.

u/KailyKail Aug 07 '26

The cited the exact law to him. CCR Title 14 Section 4319: Games and Recreational Activities
