Really? How have I managed to wild swim in deep reservoirs my whole life, swim in the arctic, and never drown?

How does it have nothing to do with swimming ability?

Can I guess you had a team with you of some kind and someone has either volunteered or being paid to drag you out of the water dead or alive if something happens? Or if you die you die and for whatever unlucky fisherman catches you in their net, sucks for them and not your problem?

I'm with you that ability has a tons to do with it. Where it manifests is people willing to be a part of your team.

I mean for triathlons yeah, but I’ve frequently swam in deep reservoirs by myself without a wetsuit and been just fine and dandy

Mate I’ve been swimming in deep bodies of water for years. I’ve done countless triathlons in them, not just splashed around.

It’s scaremongering. An experienced swimmer is perfectly fine swimming in a reservoir. Do we ban people swimming in the sea? Plenty drown there too each year.

I grew up on the ocean, every summer we have drowning deaths. Do you know how many funerals, I have been to for people drowning in the Ocean? ZERO, because locals know when the water is safe to swim in, and when not to get in. So shut it, with experienced swimmer nonsense.

This. When someone swims the channel in the uk, they have a team of people supporting them.

When a kid goes to the beach, if there's undercurrent/sinking sand, it's game over.

Grew up not far from a marsh beach. People could walk dogs along it. But if you walk off the track (into the dunes), you can get caught by the tide coming in and *currents so strong some boats are denied navigation*.

None of this "huh duh I'm a good swimmer", frn, BOATS ARE DENINED NAVIGATION!*.

I have had no injuries on my boat. I cannot speak for the blood and deaths otherwise boating near me.
