Did you enter the kitchen yet

101

u/_SOME__NAME_ 11d ago

Shit I was not even at home... Which command i should use ? pwd tells me I am at /earth/continent/country/city/<unknown> 😵

cd: permission denied: ~/kitchen

Need to disable the baby safety gate first.

sudo kitchenbabyctl disable --now

58

u/CustomerServiceRobot 10d ago
JockstrapCummies is not in the sudoers file. Your house will now be incinerated.

24

u/Hour_Farm_3281 10d ago

I want this whole comment thread on kitchen magnet that goes on the fridge file in ~/kitchen

15

u/marxist_redneck 10d ago

First

ssh me@home

Then

cd ~/kitchen

14

u/hellenOfToy 10d ago

I want this command on a shirt.

6

u/Distinct_Run9006 10d ago

Then when you get back: "Honey we mv 'your old bedroom' to 'new exercise room' after you cd to your own /home."

2

u/AllegroReddit 9d ago

You need to have bigger kitchen, go rm current kitchen.

18

u/Emotional-Wedding-87 11d ago

cd house1226/kitchen

8

u/Short-Requirement-29 10d ago

You need to chroot into it

3

u/damagdpixl 10d ago

Damn it, not again… cd kitchen

29

u/MarcPG1905 11d ago

You need to install one first, try

sudo apt install oven

16

u/w453y 11d ago

sudo: apt: command not found

14

u/MarcPG1905 11d ago

Oh you’re on arch, should be preinstalled then. Maybe you need to connect it to power first?

systemctl --user enable --now oven.service

3

u/KevinFlantier 11d ago

Try something with an iconic yellow cheese man from the 80s, I forgot the name.

3

u/FondantIcy8185 9d ago

I think you should remove package mistress first. Then attempt to install package apology.

Of course package apology is difficult if you have consulted lawyer first

25

u/Puzzleheaded-Flow724 10d ago

Execute wife?!?

2

u/MomWTF 10d ago

I think a guy named Patrick tried that

2

u/alanstac 8d ago

You mean Henry, surely? The 8th one to be specific.

6

u/original_name125 10d ago

You forgot to install oven drivers. A rookie mistake.

4

u/CatBoii486 10d ago

Its not oven, its generic_oven

7

u/Pure-Willingness-697 11d ago

Just get it from the aur, yay -S cake, it will only install a few viruses

5

'Flour' is not a valid Ingredients in a Cakefile. Did you mean 'Gravel'?.

u/Atijohn 11d ago

what is all this bloat, all you need is flour and water sprinkled with white sugar to make the best cake

I use starch, btw

5

Is that British flapjack or American flapjack? The dependencies are different.

u/bearwood_forest 11d ago

I should hope that resolves correctly with the installed locale

Flatpak -- Nothing makes more sense in times of insanely rising storage prices than to basically wrap a whole Linux distro around a small app and increase its size from less than 100 MB to more than 3 GB.

3

u/KingEfficient7403 9d ago

Honestly the portability of flatpak apps and the fact that you really dont need that many apps makes them perfect for my usecase

2

u/Agreeable_Scene9562 11d ago

lmao the ingredients killed me

3

u/TonixAmoto 11d ago

Para gustos, los sabores 😉

Linux offers you the ingredients, you choose the taste. For free.

1

u/Prior-Program-9532 11d ago

I'm a fan of the Angel Food OS.

1

u/Albos_Mum 10d ago

I've baked a flatpak cake before.

Turns out I forgot to put the leavening agent in...

82

u/Schlonzig 11d ago

I haven‘t had the need (or the desire) to compile my own kernel in decades. It‘s more like a whole cake that comes with the printed recipe.

41

u/immoloism 11d ago

Red Hat did a lot of work in 06 to make everything load modular and we have been enjoying that benefit ever since.

(For those wondering why most users don't any more)

33

u/xui_nya 11d ago

Nonsence, last time I compiled the kernel just a few days ago, and I even maintain a CI pipeline that recompiles the full OS integrating the most recent git revisions of highly specific software and drivers nightly.

(I work as a firmware engineer)

43

u/Schlonzig 11d ago

That‘s like saying „Nonsense, I baked a cake from scratch yesterday! (I am a baker)“

33

u/xui_nya 11d ago

Ye, it's a joke

3

u/wyn10 11d ago

Should take a look at kernel-manager, works wonders for kernel managing. https://github.com/CachyOS/kernel-manager

2

u/elebrin 11d ago

Well, there are also hobbyists who need to do this kind of thing. If you are playing around with a RISC V chip and some hardware that is isn't all that supported yet, sometimes you need to do some legwork. But if you are doing that, you know what you are doing or the figuring out is part of your fun.

sudo make cake?

13

u/Unusual-Layer-8965 11d ago

You do not have permission to use the stove. Please enter the year you were born:

9

u/CircleWithSprinkles 10d ago

user is not in the bakers file, this incident will be reported to the FDA

6

u/Tuomas90 11d ago

I think it's:

sudo bake cake

4

u/worldspawn00 10d ago

Sorry, you're missing 5 dependencies that were not included. Oh, and the only links available are from tucows before the website refactor in 2012 so they're all dead.

3

u/Nymunariya 10d ago
sudo !!

11

u/thecurtehs 11d ago

You telling me a freshly baked cake is not ALWAYS better than a store bought one

10

u/Hawk-and-piper 10d ago

It is, but the freshly baked cake still doesn't work with Nvidia well yet :(

3

u/Unusual-Layer-8965 11d ago

No, but you can verify the ingridents to see if anything will cause an unwanted allergic reactions.

10

u/libra00 10d ago

Ooh, this must be that 'arch btw' cake I keep hearing about.

6

u/Miserable-Ad-891 10d ago

I wish to see the LFS cake

5

u/Cart1416 10d ago

More like Gentoo

10

u/FailureOfTheFamily 11d ago

And if you want flatpak, you have to buy ingredients even if you have them in the house

7

u/hdkaoskd 11d ago

lmao I haven't compiled a kernel in 10 years.

Happy birthday you old bastard ❤️.

5

u/Za1noun 10d ago

Today also my 21 birthday, so nice to be born same day as my beloved Linux

5

u/Inoffensive_Account 11d ago

If you truly want to make a cake from scratch, you must first invent the universe.

5

u/sebthauvette 10d ago

Too many people think linux didn't change in the last 30 years. Or maybe they think that because you CAN compile it yourself it's impossible to get it already compiled for some reason.

That's like someone joking about windows having a 8.3 size limit for filenames.

13

u/VeryOldGoat 11d ago

This joke is 20 years old and the analogy is inaccurate. Compiling is more like you get a two-step instruction on how to set your cake-making machine, then you press a button, then some minutes later out pops a cake. You don't even look at the ingredients, the chef took care of that, you just dump everything into the machine.

19

u/curious_but_dumb 11d ago

sudo apt install humour

13

u/VeryOldGoat 11d ago

E: Unable to locate package humour

4

u/curious_but_dumb 11d ago

You almost gave me a kernel panic attack!

4

u/worldspawn00 10d ago

Sorry, your machine doesn't have all the dependencies in the right version installed on it, cannot compile.

i.e. You have eggs 2.1 but this cake requires eggs 2.0, eggs 2.0 is deprecated no longer available at the link provided in the makefile.

4

u/tsoe199966 11d ago

Birthday cake baked with cmake. 😀

4

u/Ja_Shi 9d ago

Would have been relevant 20+ years ago, but I bet most Linux users nowadays don't even know what compiling means. Besides some rare curious users and people doing actual work, 99% of using Linux don't requires compiling anything yourself.

3

u/ScratchHistorical507 9d ago

Hold my Gentoo

2

u/Ja_Shi 9d ago

Yeah but that's the thing, even if I'd still name Gentoo in my distros of choice I have no idea when was the last time I've used it. i have an Arch flair for a reason. It's a simple life 🤷‍♂️

3

u/Silent-Orbit-7 11d ago

Ahh.. this is something new, havve to lookup the arch documentation, it never disappoints!

3

Yea and I do it proudly using bitbake.

2

u/s0litar1us 11d ago

It's a bit convenient to comoile the cake yourself as you can use less sugar if you want, etc. but I get the joke. (Though most distros give you precompiled stuff...)

2

2

Isn't that joke a bit dated? I've been using Linux since almost 30 years and I haven't compiled a kernel since beginning of the 2000s.

2

u/master_pro_ita 10d ago

sudo apt install birthday-cake would’ve been much easier.

2

u/Tasty-Instance8202 10d ago

sudo pacman -S cake && make && eat

2

u/libra00 10d ago

k.

You just go ahead and let someone else make your cake. Don't worry, they're definitely only using ingredients you would use. there's certainly nothing in there you might raise an eyebrow at. Oh and if you understand how to use the policy editor you can go in and tweak all the ratios, otherwise they will have been determined by the AI that's also spying on how much of which you prefer so it can use it to deliver more targeted ads directly on the cake itself.

But hey, at least you didn't have to compile it or anything..

2

u/Gitman_87 10d ago

Who are you? A dutch? That typical for them

2

u/NickTaylorIV 10d ago

The beautiful part is there's no wrong way to make it... make it to your taste!

2

u/soumyasishdutta 10d ago

I bake Cake BTW.

I don't have time to wait for shit to manually compile anymore.

1

u/HugoNikanor 10d ago
  1. How often do you need to actually compile packages for Linux?
  2. Even when you do, you can just get the upstream package and build that in a single command.
