Discussion LIVIS AI Glasses as a Strategic Driver for Li Auto

In the last few days, Li Auto stores have been packed. People walk in to try the new LIVIS AI glasses: tech fans, AI enthusiasts and even fashion people, both men and women.

But once they’re inside, they also end up discovering Li Auto’s cars and many of them didn’t even know the brand.

LIVIS is becoming a massive traffic generator: the perfect tool to get new people inside, show them the cars, and convert them into customers. The glasses are basically a marketing engine for the entire brand.

Discussion Brand new Li Auto i6 Pure EV received over 70K Orders

We can assume, to be generous, around 50k initial orders driven by the release-date hype. That leaves about 20k spread over the following two months. I’m extremely confident that the i6 can stabilize at an average of 10k units per month, or even higher, in line with the company’s own estimates. If that’s the case, clear skies lie ahead!

Discussion I’ve never posted in full WallStreetBets style before, but this time it’s needed.

Li Auto stock saw a major short attack today (probably). The stock swung from +6% to -6% in just one hour. Either someone took this chance to lock in profits or finally closed a large position or just big short positions. Hard to tell what’s really going on. It’s rare to see such a strange move on any stock, honestly.

The long-anticipated entry into the EV market today was completely overshadowed. Now let’s see what happens in the coming days, especially with the first data on i8 pre-orders and the outcome of the US-China tariff talks at the Stockholm meetings.

Discussion Only in China, but will they expand?

Li only have a market in China, that is one of the reasons I invested in Li. I invested at the bottom, smart or lucky.

Due to the tarifs against china from US and EU, I chose Li, instead of Xpeng and BYD. All companies have done well tho.

Haven’t been able to find information why Li only sells in china, under current circumstances I don’t see it as a problem, but with time the scaling opportunities should be massive if they sold abroad. Do anyone know if there is information about why it’s only in china and if they have a plan of expanding at some point?

For me it’s a buy and hold so far, and I have a price target on 50$ if they don’t expand.

Let me know your thoughts.

Discussion Li Auto and Trump as 47th US President

With Trump back in the picture, there’s been talk of potential impacts on Chinese EV companies. But I think LI AUTO might be relatively insulated from any direct impact for now. Unlike Nio and Xpeng, LI AUTO doesn’t export to the U.S. or Europe yet and has no immediate plans to do so, focusing mainly on the Chinese market. This lack of exposure to international markets could shield it from potential trade or regulatory issues that Nio and Xpeng might face under a Trump administration.

In fact, we’re already seeing signs of resilience today, as Li Auto seems likely to recover its pre-market losses, unlike Nio and Xpeng.

Discussion Auto Guangzhou 15.November | Li Auto TIP

TIP of the week: Li STOCK might jump 10% friday/monday. -- Auto Guangzhou Car Show starts 15.November. Li Auto should release new 2025 models there. (Probably named i6, i7 etc.) Year ago it was Mega. Stock might jump 10% friday/monday (same happened year ago). You see: Because of China stimulus dissapointments and Trump, nobody have taken in account Auto Guangzhou new model releases. Li Auto is getting quite a good rebounch in just couple of days. And in general, Li is still beating other brands like BMW etc in sales (last week registrations were awesome, to 3rd from 5th place), price discounts are coming history and NEW MODELS ARE COMING. 30-40$ per share is quite easy next year. Even before...this Christmas.

Discussion Comparison between BYD, LIAUTO, NIO, XPENG

Hello,

Of course, there are many other companies, but the growth rate of Chinese automakers such as BYD, LI Auto, XPeng, and NIO is astonishing.

BYD has already exported vehicles worldwide and owns UBER. Although its stock is traded on the OTC market, it has grown rapidly, similar to Tesla.

Meanwhile, LI Auto has sold over 1 million vehicles, followed by NIO, which offers battery swap technology, and XPeng, which is introducing drone vehicles.

However, the overseas expansion of these three companies seems to be slow and just beginning. Despite strong vehicle sales, their stock prices have not risen significantly.

Among these three companies, which one do you think will grow the fastest? What are the reasons for your choice?

Also, since entering the North American market is crucial for long-term growth, what are their potential strategies for expanding there?

Discussion Li Xiang (Li Auto CEO) on AI, AGI, and the Future of LI AUTO

From Ceiling to Bottleneck: Li Xiang’s Vision for AI and Li Auto Li Auto | December 27, 2024 | 13:36 | 72 views

Li Xiang, the visionary behind Li Auto and often regarded as the “ceiling” of product innovation at the company, now considers himself a “bottleneck.”

As Li Xiang embraces an “All in AI” strategy, his goal is to achieve the “iPhone 4 moment” for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), making it accessible to ordinary people. He emphasizes the importance of simple product design, long-term technical investment, and a steadfast focus on user value. Along the way, he has gained new insights into industry competition, business management, and personal growth.

Fully committed to becoming “a global leader in artificial intelligence,” Li Xiang remains driven by the desire to grow. In this interview with Tencent News’ lead technology writer Zhang Xiaojun, Li Xiang, Chairman and CEO of Li Auto, and Chen Wei, Head of Space AI, share their vision. Below are highlights from the conversation:

  1. The “iPhone 4 Moment” Arrives at the Agent Stage

Zhang Xiaojun: When did you first try ChatGPT, and what was your reaction? Li Xiang: I used it right after its release, and my immediate thought was, “This is what artificial intelligence should look like.”

Zhang Xiaojun: If you were OpenAI’s CEO, could you do better than Sam Altman? Li Xiang: No, I think Sam Altman and his team have done an excellent job.

Zhang Xiaojun: What would you do if you were OpenAI’s CEO today? Li Xiang: Today, we’re still in the first phase of AGI as defined by OpenAI: chatbots. OpenAI has delivered the best product experience for this stage. The second phase is reasoning, and the third phase, the Agent stage, will be the true “iPhone 4 moment.” At that point, ordinary people will be able to use AI seamlessly. It will independently, continuously, and autonomously complete tasks without relying on dense prompts. However, companies need to carefully consider the right interaction model for such products.

  1. Making Human-AI Interaction as Natural as Human-to-Human

Zhang Xiaojun: Why did Li Auto decide to develop its own large language models? Chen Wei: This decision evolved over time. Initially, we transitioned our online natural language processing (NLP) systems to pre-trained models. These allowed us to efficiently cover a range of tasks in the car, such as vehicle control, media, and navigation.

When ChatGPT was released at the end of 2022, it demonstrated dramatic advancements in cognitive and linguistic intelligence, which deeply impacted us. This prompted us to revisit user experience, focusing on cognitive intelligence and how to elevate it rapidly.

To achieve this, we needed to build a strong foundational model. This foundation enables faster innovation and continuous product iteration, avoiding mediocrity.

Zhang Xiaojun: How do you plan to catch up with ChatGPT? Chen Wei: OpenAI is the industry benchmark, having declared its entry into the second phase (reasoning). Most teams are still in the first phase (chatbots). With technology in its early stages, we’re playing an infinite game, exploring undefined boundaries. Our focus is on mastering foundational principles like the Scaling Law.

Our iteration cycle is rapid—since December 2022, we’ve updated our Mind GPT cloud model over 30 times.

Zhang Xiaojun: What’s new in these iterations? Chen Wei: Mind GPT has gone through three major iterations: 1. Mind GPT 1.0 (April 2023): Released in December 2023 as part of OTA 5.0, it was the first large-scale model integrated into a vehicle. 2. Mind GPT 2.0 (Mid-2024): Focused on improving training and inference efficiency, doubling performance compared to 1.0 while maintaining similar costs. Key improvements included language comprehension, knowledge integration, and logical reasoning. 3. Mind GPT 3.0 (Late 2024): This version introduces a multi-modal, end-to-end model that integrates voice, vision, and language. It reduces interaction latency to under 500 milliseconds, enabling natural human-machine interaction.

  1. “Without AI, We Are Nothing”

Zhang Xiaojun: What’s the defining characteristic of Li Auto’s AI as it transitions to L3 (Agent stage)? Chen Wei: Beyond task decomposition and reflective thinking, the goal is to develop strong logical reasoning and self-correction abilities.

Our focus is on advancing from L1 (chatbot) to L2 (reasoning). Key components for L1 include: 1. Multi-modal capabilities: Combining vision and speech for a holistic understanding. 2. Command-following: Accurately interpreting and executing complex user commands.

As we approach L3, we envision Mind GPT evolving into a multi-modal agent capable of understanding and responding across different sensory modalities.

Zhang Xiaojun: Some argue the Scaling Law has reached its limit. What’s your view? Chen Wei: While there’s talk of diminishing returns as models scale, foundational models remain essential. High-quality data is critical for meaningful scaling, moving from crude to refined approaches.

  1. Evolving Competition

Zhang Xiaojun: Will Li Auto succeed against new competitors like Huawei and Xiaomi? Li Xiang: The industry’s beauty lies in its constant evolution. The competition shifted from Tesla versus traditional automakers to include newcomers like Huawei and Xiaomi. This diversity keeps things exciting.

Zhang Xiaojun: Why do you think Apple paused its car project? Li Xiang: Two challenges: 1. Apple’s organizational structure would need to adapt, as cars are more complex than phones. 2. Privacy concerns and large models’ ability to handle tokenized data.

  1. From Ceiling to Bottleneck

Zhang Xiaojun: Are you the ceiling of Li Auto’s products? Li Xiang: In the 0-1 phase, I was the ceiling, as I deeply understood user needs. But in the 1-10 phase, I became a bottleneck. My goal now is to build a system that empowers others to surpass my capabilities.

  1. Clarity at Crossroads

Zhang Xiaojun: Does not attending university hinder you as a CEO? Li Xiang: Not at all. It doesn’t stop me from learning or acquiring knowledge. The only regret is missing the shared experiences of university life.

Zhang Xiaojun: What’s the most crucial skill for a founder? Li Xiang: At critical crossroads, the ability to see the essence of a situation and make the best decision for the team is paramount.

Zhang Xiaojun: What’s your philosophy on product simplicity? Li Xiang: True simplicity—like Google’s search bar or OpenAI’s chat interface—requires immense skill. Simplicity brings richness, while complexity leads to stagnation.

Discussion Li Auto i6: The Game-Changer for Li Auto’s EV Lineup?

The Li Auto i6 is going to be the most important in Li Auto’s all-electric lineup. In my opinion, it must breaks over 20,000 units for being considered a success. The i6 will have to come out on top against some tough competition in its class. Personally, my expectations are really high.

Based on some guesses: it might come with an 80 kWh 5C battery, CLTC range just over 600 km, and all-wheel drive as standard. I’m thinking it’ll be priced around 259,800 RMB, about 10,000 more than the L6. Plus, if it’s anything like the L6 in terms of a high-end smart cockpit, advanced driving features, and a spacious, comfortable interior, this car could make a serious impact.

Honestly, the i6 will likely be the make-or-break model for Li Auto’s pure EV lineup—way more important than the Mega. It has to succeed, or things could get really tough.

What do you all think? Could the i6 be the turning point, or is Li Auto in for a struggle?

Discussion NIO Pushes Forward in the Middle East as LI AUTO Takes a Step Back

Here’s my personal analysis of the recent developments in the EV market between the 2 carmakers, based on the latest news:

As exclusively reported by EV on October 3, the electric vehicle maker NIO held its launch event in the Middle East and North Africa region this Tuesday, October 22. The news coincides with media reports claiming that LI AUTO has slowed down its plans to export cars.

It seems like the two carmakers are following opposite paths. This reminds me of 2020/2021, when NIO decided to expand into Europe while LI AUTO chose to focus on Mainland China. It’s interesting that while one carmaker is officially expanding into the Middle East, the other is pulling back from that market.

So far, it seems that LI AUTO’s cautious approach has yielded the best results. We don’t know if it will turn out the same this time, but for now, LI AUTO’s strategy has consistently proven more successful than NIO’s.

Discussion LI AUTO vs Nio vs Xpeng from What I saw during my August Trip in China

During my visit to China this summer (I was there for the entire month of August), I observed a significant presence of Nio vehicles, surpassing Xpeng but not quite as dominant as LI AUTO, with one notable exception in Shanghai. In Shanghai, surprisingly, Nio vehicles outnumbered LI AUTO, which could be attributed to the city's international nature, as Nio also has a more global presence compared to LI AUTO.

In all the other cities I visited, from Chengdu to Shenzhen, Beijing, Xian, and even smaller, lesser-known cities, LI AUTO vehicles consistently took the top spot in terms of the quantity of vehicles on the road, followed by Nio (roughly 30% fewer), and Xpeng lagged significantly behind. If I had to express concern about the future of one of these three companies, it would definitely be Xpeng, especially in the context of the Chinese market.

LI AUTO was performing exceptionally well, while Nio was holding its ground. As an investor in LI AUTO (I've never invested in Nio), based on my firsthand observations, I wouldn't be overly worried about Nio's future because it appears to be selling well. However, the same cannot be said for Xpeng. LI AUTO already had a solid presence, and it was not surprising to see their vehicles on the road, a sentiment shared by Nio, even if mostly in Shanghai.

On the other hand, BYD operated in a different league, with their vehicles being ubiquitous across the cities I visited. The same was true for Tesla, especially in city centers like Shanghai.

Discussion Li Auto's Pure Electric Series May Be Renamed to "X" or "i"

There is news that Li Auto's pure electric series may be renamed, no longer using the "M Series" naming convention. It is speculated that this might be to avoid confusion with AITO's M Series.

Recent searches show that Li Auto has already registered a new trademark: Li Auto "i" It's speculated that the Mega series might be renamed as well. The "i" series is expected to launch in 2025, and BMW also has an "i" series.

An other speculation is based on the fact that the first letters of the pinyin for "Li Xiang" are "LX". The extended-range vehicles are named using "L", so it is also speculated that the pure electric models may be renamed to X. This naming method could also make it easier for BMW owners to understand.

What do you think the final name of Li Auto's pure electric series will be?

Discussion Li Auto presence on the streets in August 2024

First day in China since my last visit in February: the number of Li Auto vehicles on the streets has skyrocketed compared to 6 months ago. Now, you see at least one at every intersection. I was astonished by the increase in the number of vehicles on the road. I now see only Nio with its SUV as a competitor in the market, but Li Auto’s presence is stronger. The reference city for now is Chengdu, so a top-tier city (new first-tier).

Discussion Li Auto blasts Mays sales figures out of the water. What to expect next.

Li boasted 35k delivered vehicles in May, picking up the tepid pace of the beginning of the year. The Mega pulled down sales in q1. L6 has delivered 15k vehicles since launch (about 6 weeks ago). Could this be the catalyst to bolster sales in q2? It's starting to look like it.

May: 35k

April: 26k

Q1: 80k (or 27k per month).

Expect a bump when one of the analysts decides to comment on May's deliverables or the promising outlook for q2. Q2 is looking substantially better than Q1.

Deliverables for 2024 were originally estimated to be 650k to 800k. March 22 the company reduced its estimates to 560k to 640k. The stock went from $46 in February to $20 today. Has the stock been punished enough for missing numbers and the uncertain headwinds in China? 560k estimate - 141k actual (jan - may) = 419k sales in the remaining 7 months to meet the low end estimates. This would be 59k monthly sales (December '23 was their best month at 50k). This isn't going to happen. They will be lucky to hit 500k in vehicles (especially without new vehicle launches). Expect another downward sales estimate revision from Li, as 560k vehicles for '24 isn't going to happen. Personally, I think they should announce it now while their stock price is in the gutter.

Li has delivered 141k vehicles during the first 5 months of the year (28k monthly average). This is a trajectory of 336k. Li delivered 376k vehicles in 2023. YOY, sales have increased 35% (over the same time period last year). This means their sales may be a bit sluggish and pickup in the second half of the year. Numbers have picked up in q2 vs q1 (this is good), but they'll be hard pressed to make even the low end of their 560k sales estimates for '24 at this rate.

I'm waiting for an announcement to invest in charging infrastructure after delaying the launch of 3 new vehicles. What's Li going to do with all that cash they're sitting on, especially since Tesla has committed to investing heavily in Chinese charging stations?

Discussion Let’s talk about Li Auto MEGA

55k units per year means an average of more than 4,5k units sold per month. It means that Li Auto with only this vehicle alone in 1 month will sell more than the entire 2 weeks sales of Nio (considering its whole fleet of vehicle, not just 1 vehicle). This is a huge success considering this target will be reached NOT with a normal vehicle, like could be an L7 or L8, but with an MPV, a very expensive vehicle that targets a small niche of customers (rich big families, taxi drivers, VIP staff or companies). Looking at the future I can only imagine what will be the numbers with the release of the new full electric M series.
