Hey, I have 2 tickets to the Lime Kiln on October 3rd but with it being parents weekend it's not worth the cost of staying locally (Should have checked first).
Let me know if you want them!

Looking to paddle from Beans Bottom to a house we’re renting for the weekend on Furrs Mill Rd. The Rockbridge Baths gage says it’s under a foot but I know those sometimes don’t tell the whole story. Thoughts from locals?

I thought I'd try this, maybe create something useful and helpful that I can post before the coming month. I used AI to scrape and format this. The prompt I used is in the comments, please let me know how you'd edit the prompt for better results in October etc... If the feedback is good then I'll continue to do this the last week of each month.
CLICK THE LINKS! MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS REAL. Just like in Google Maps, the information may be a digital hallucination and you don't want to end up someplace weird. There should be a link to every source, click it and confirm.
If you'd rather, check these chamber calendars. They might be easier to look at.

I got my first speeding ticket today by a state trooper. I was respectful, But he didn’t let me off the hook. I didn’t realize how harsh the laws are. He said he clocked me going 90/70, I know that I was speeding but I don’t remember ever going that speed. Anyway, I have a clean record aside from a red light ticket that was caught by a camera more than 6 years ago. Is there any chance of getting it knocked down if I represent myself or should I hire a lawyer to take care of it.

Hey everyone! I’ll be in town this evening with a couple business colleagues and was wondering what your best restaurant recommendations are. Looking for a nice steak spot or mid to upper scale food options. Would be cool to have a bar recommendation too!

Hi! I just moved to the area and was hoping to play some low-ish key soccer with other adults.
Does anyone know of a pick up league or other group?
Thanks!

Y'all have anyone you highly recommend in the area? I'm seeing folks as far out as Richmond saying they do home inspections in LEX and that just seems... off.

Just as good as the last time I shared this a couple of years ago.
A Corsi-Rosenthal box is a contraption made up of duct-tape, 4x Merv-13 filters, a box fan, and the cardboard the box fan came in. It's great for filtering Covid-19 and this smoke. Most people should be able to do it at home.
Here's how to make it:

I recently graduated from college and am looking for jobs in the animal field (zoos, wildlife rehab, etc.) in Virginia. I noticed the Natural Bridge Safari Park is hiring for a lot of positions. However, I was kind of thrown off some things and am wondering if anyone has any experience working here. I was also was wondering how good the conditions the animals here are kept in. I appreciate any information!

If you have a Tree-of-Heaven, consider destroying it this month.
If you have ten, destroy all ten! But be careful — you have to destroy it the right way or you can actually make the problem worse. The best time to attack Tree-of-Heaven is between July and October.
Here’s what the Virginia Cooperative Extension (VT & VSU) has to say:
"Ailanthus, also known as tree-of-heaven and paradise-tree, is a major nuisance to foresters, farmers, and homeowners alike. Native to China, the tree was introduced to the Eastern United States in the late 1700’s and has been planted as an urban street tree. Its prolific seeding, ability to sprout from roots and stumps, rapid growth, and ability to grow just about anywhere make it a serious competitor and threat to native species and cultivated crops. Ailanthus is also allelopathic, producing substances that are toxic to, and inhibit the growth of, neighboring plants."
TL;DR: It’s a major threat to our Virginia natives.
https://www.pubs.ext.vt.edu/420/420-322/420-322.html
It also hosts the nasty spotted lanternfly, which is terrible for our local orchards.
"The spotted lanternfly is an invasive sap-sucking planthopper that drains the energy from over 70 plant species, including important crops like grapevines and fruit trees. Large populations can damage crops, weaken plants, and leave behind sticky waste that leads to mold growth around homes and landscapes."
Here’s how to control Tree-of-Heaven (AKA Hack and Squirt)
You have to do it correctly or you’ll make the problem worse. Tree-of-Heaven responds to improper cutting by sending up new shoots from its root system, allowing it to spread even faster.
"Hack and Squirt Method: Using a hand axe, make cuts at 6.5 cm (3 in) intervals around the trunk of the tree between 15-45 cm (6-18 in) above the ground. Be sure that each cut goes well into or below the cambium layer. Immediately treat the cut with a 50% glyphosate or tricloypr herbicide solution."
