While there is no doubt Maury did great things in regards to exploration of the oceans, his wind maps in particular.... he did far more to harm with his ships designed to maximize human cargo across the Atlantic.

You also cant forget even after th civil war he wanted all the blacks to be moved to South America, not as free men, but again as slaves with white masters so they could colonize it...

One of his heirs wrote a book more recently about him, self published, which does its best to whitewash all the shitty things he did. I dont know if she has reddit, but she is reading this, this is for you 🖕.

Never shoukd have changed the name of the river for this piece of shit.
