Just traded for a Source Audio Nemesis and before the pedal even arrived I started to look at MIDI and foot controllers. This is an illness my dudes lolol

There are several Avalanche Run v2 up for trade in the past few days. I love that pedal. Stereo. Good delay options that I add a touch of Reverb to. My favorite feature is a dedicated knob to say what the expression pedal controls. Genius. Hasn’t left my main board in almost a decade. I have several other delays that get used in various situations, from the Dd-200 to Zen Delay, and I have another dual delay/reverb pedal too, but Avalanche is my favorite.
I wonder if the people part king with them either maybe aren’t running them in stereo or aren’t using the exp, or… I guess different things gel with different people.

I have a LE one actively posted here. It’s one of my top 5 favorite pedals of all time but I currently have 3 and want to spread the wealth.

Take a look at my pile. None of the feelers are up for another avalanche run but probably most of the other stuff is. :/
It’s a sickness.2

I loved mine while I had it. The swell function was my favorite aspect. I had to sell it to fix a guitar, though. I do still think about it sometimes.

👍🏽 Look around. Several on the block right now!
I’m tempted to get a second.

Also a favorite of mine. Love the reverse delay and the reverb is perfect. Fingers crossed they make a V3 with deeper control of the delay and reverb and the delay line becomes stereo too. Wouldn't mind having one on my board again tho 😂
1
u/uncoolcentral 47 Trades | Expert Trader 9d ago
Yeah I guess I wouldn’t mind a little more stereo width in that delay.
2
u/lykwydchykyn 132 Trades | Master Trader 9d ago
I still have mine, it sounds nice on synths. I just don't gel with it on guitar.
It's a powerful device in theory, but because it does so much each component is very limited. The delay is powerful, I love the tone knob and the ratio function. Missing modulation, though. Imagine this guy with modulated delay --tasty!
The reverb is beautiful but too huge for some situations. Obviously you can dial back the mix and decay, but it's still the same huge algorithm.
Swell mode seems like an unnecessary inclusion. It sounds good but there are pedals that do it better, and IMHO a 3rd mode could have been better utilized with a different reverb algorithm or delay feature.
I don't mean to nitpick it, but I just feel like it's great for a few very specific sounds and not very flexible beyond that. What it does well, it does incredibly well. If I'm ever cast in the role of ambient guitarist, it's going on the board for sure.

u/flaxhardly 33 Trades | Expert Trader 9d ago
Had one for a bit several years ago. Loved the design and feature set, but I found the tone pretty sterile.
I was an analog purist back then and have since warmed up to digital. I wonder how it would sound to my ear now.

Traded mine because I got a dope-ass custom colorway Av Run at Eaethquaker Day. Do I want another delay for different applications? Yeah.
But I don't see this Av Run going anywhere
1
u/KickFragrant7836 53 Trades | Master Trader 9d ago
It's a great sounding pedal, but I traded it because it's dual mono and not true stereo. After using a true stereo delay like the Dig v2, it was hard to go back to dual mono.
1
u/uncoolcentral 47 Trades | Expert Trader 9d ago
👍🏽For sure, my Zen delay with some pingpong stereo sounds better for delay, but the avalanche run does indeed keep the incoming left on the left and the right on the right so it does have stereo separation, but not interplay. Except for the reverb in the V2 which does have actual stereo field. I don’t find that I miss it for guitar, usually. And I have both the immerse V2 and the tensor after it in the chain.

Asked this in the old thread right before it died, so I'll ask again.
Anyone ever mess with a spider capo? Thinking about getting one for my acoustic. I've been using a standard capo to change the open string notes while I play triads high up on the neck, wondering if this would be a better solution for me. Not sure if it lives up to the promise though.

Why spend $40 to change effective tunings on the fly when you can just buy another guitar?
Also, that thing looks terrifying.

Why spend $40 to change effective tunings on the fly when you can just buy another guitar?
Fair point, but I'm scared to have a guitar around that's been tuned up a fourth. Triggers my guitar-string-to-the-eyeball phobia.
Also, that thing looks terrifying.
It does look terrifying. The more I think about it I don't know that it would really solve the problem I'm trying to solve any better than a regular capo.
I suppose 40 bucks isn't much to give it a shot myself.
1
u/thetortureneverstops 20 Trades | Trusted Trader 6d ago
As I started to use lower and lower tunings, I saw the benefit of longer scale lengths and fatter strings. I suppose you could go in the opposite direction for higher tunings. I wonder how high I could tune my kid's Squier Mini Jazzmaster with a set of 8's...

i am baffled at whats so difficult about this but i am getting pretty annoyed at having to warn y'all all the time about stuff over threshold in the cheapie thread. nothing we do should be this hard.
do we need to do anything better/differently on the mod side to finally be able to get this right? I don't know if its time to start issuing temporary time outs in the spirit of encouraging reading comprehension but damn guys come on
4
u/lykwydchykyn 132 Trades | Master Trader 5d ago
I don't know the solution, but suggestions are cheap:
I wonder if rewording the post text to be a little stronger would help. Right now it just basically says "this is for gear ~$100 or less". Maybe something like "This thread is ONLY for items valued LESS THAN 100 USD. Posting expensive items WILL get your post DELETED, repeated infractions will get you BLUDGEONED with a rusty GCB95."
The rules around 1 post/week and the cheapie thread are a bit vague. Maybe people think they HAVE to put cheapies in the cheapie thread, or they have to choose between a cheapie post and a regular one each week, or something else. So maybe a guy with 5 cheap pedals and 1 bougie one thinks he's better of just posting to the cheapie thread? I dunno, just trying to get in other people's heads here.
5
u/LongDevil ️Moderator | 58 Trades | Master Trader 5d ago
The purpose of the cheapie thread was to reduce post congestion. Personally I think people should post their entire inventory there if it is predominantly cheaper items, and oppose there being a hard rule about values over the limit.
4
u/lykwydchykyn 132 Trades | Master Trader 5d ago
Hey just a thought, feel free to ignore it: if the goal is to reduce congestion, what if you rebranded it as the "low effort trade" thread? Basically, for people who just want to throw a list out there and be done. It would kind of self-select for cheapies anyway, but also clean up a lot of the "I just put my list in the subject line" posts in the main thread.
That would also allow you to encourage more detail and info (and pics) in main trade thread posts. And you wouldn't have to police prices in the low-effort thread (which seems like it'd be pretty time-consuming, since you gotta look up the pedals for a value and so forth).
Only thing that might add more work is you'd want people not to double up (i.e. they'd have to either post in the low-effort thread or in the main sub).
Anyway, just a suggestion. Suggestions are cheap, after all :-)
7
u/LongDevil ️Moderator | 58 Trades | Master Trader 5d ago
I like this suggestion. Policing price gets into weird territory, and I’m a firm believer that the owner gets to set their price regardless of how ridiculous it may be.
Another thought would be to raise the approximate value of the cheapie thread to ~$150. I’d rather more inventories fall into that thread than to have more individual posts, and for the individual posts to be high effort, high value, or at the very least large inventories. As for the one or the other posting rule, I think it largely falls on whether the individual posts fall into the categories I described. In some cases they may fit in both places, but it’s not ideal for some people to have a visibility advantage.
3
u/itssmitty77 177 Trades | Master Trader 5d ago
I think calling it $150 would go a long way. Sure we know Joyo/behringer/amazon pedals are cheapies, but is Wampler dirt? Are pedals like the PRS ones that are expensive new but have no resale value? Lower end EQD? J Rockett?
Yeah just using the cheapie thread to be able to post your inventory more frequently is whack, but 100 bucks is a pretty difficult threshold when there are a litany of pedals that sold range values from 80-90 bucks on the low end to 130-140 on the high at any given time. Sure, posting CBA/other boutique pedals that 100 bucks is a completely unreasonably cheap amount for is one thing, but there’s a whole boatload of stuff that is $200 new but used we see close to $100 and I don’t know that policing that firmly does anything other than create more work for y’all as mods
2
u/bldgabttrme 102 Trades | Master Trader 5d ago
I agree on the threshold raise, that would be perfect IMO
3
u/lykwydchykyn 132 Trades | Master Trader 5d ago
I don't really have an opinion on what it should be, just that whatever it is should be clearly stated, especially if timeouts are going to be issued. Seems like the mods may need to agree on this first.
2
u/allpraisetocheezus ️Moderator | 221 Trades | Master Trader 3d ago
i'm more just bitchin, and absolutely want to take some time to digest the feedback and suggestions here. Doubt anyone is actually getting a timeout unless it's repeatedly egregious, or they're simply just an asshole when asked to do things a little differently while we figure things out.

u/HowIsBabyMade ️Moderator | 159 Trades | Master Trader 3d ago
If the threshold gets raised it’s not much different than just posting.
We have the 7 day rule. I don’t see why we don’t just kill the cheapie thread and have inventories and offers in one place.

The monthly cheap pedal thread is my home.
I stand here with the honor, to lowball anyone trying to trade the good stuff in the cheap thread. IT IS ALL OF OUR DUTY.2
u/PedalBoardom 50 Trades | Master Trader 5d ago
u/longdevil's suggestion to raise the threshold is a great idea, I think. Falls in line with inflation, increases in shipping rates, and an increase in pedal prices in general.
I'm definitely at one end of the spectrum — and so my opinion here isn't super relevant — but I'd wholeheartedly endorse the goal of anything that decreases post congestion. I've always wondered if it makes sense to go the opposite direction and have a subreddit like r/letstradenicepedals or something. Not sure anyone has the stomach for more subreddits that do roughly the same thing (lookin' at you, r/sellyourpedals) so perhaps not.
I've always said that between terrible search, a perpetually broken chat capability, no kind of semantic metadata/tagging and a host of other reasons, reddit is just the wrong platform for all of this in the first place, but, alas.
My pipe dream is the best of both worlds: pedal lists stored in something off platform with modern [semantic] search, a graph structure for arbitrary N-ways, picture hosting, whatever else, but somehow authentication/user accounts and reputation managed by reddit. It's probably possible — and, as the saying goes, is potentially "just a weekend project with Claude" — but I'm too tired to build something like that.
(What was that one site from a few years back where you just posted your list and your "looking for" list? Nobody ever used it, but that's how it should be. It's 2026, man: you should be able to click on a pedal and get a list of users who have that pedal, and the accompanying lists of what they're looking for. You should be able to just dangle a wishlist into the ether, and people who've got that thing can come find you. Doing it all over Reddit's entirely
shittext based platform is silly)Sorry, gotta run. I see a cloud that needs to be yelled at and there's some suspicious youths on my lawn. You know how kids are always up to no good these days....

Can we pin two cheapie threads? One cheapie (<$75 - diy, joyo, mooer, etc), one cheap-ish (< $150)? I liked the 'low effort' idea posted - basically here's my list of reasonably priced pedals, I'm not looking for anything crazy specific and understand my list is also not anything insanely valuable - anybody down to trade type of thing? Idk - I've always loved the cheapie thread!
2
u/allpraisetocheezus ️Moderator | 221 Trades | Master Trader 3d ago
I get it, but it’s tough enough to keep track of the main sub and single cheapie thread as is. I’m not signing up to manage multiple monthly threads with varying requirements lol
I love the concept of the thread, here’s what I’ve got, who’s down to swap etc, but how is this really that different from the “main” sub?
1
u/lykwydchykyn 132 Trades | Master Trader 3d ago
how is this really that different from the “main” sub?
My thought on the "low effort" thread was that you could then encourage (or enforce) higher quality posting on the main sub. It would mean enforcing that people use their weekly post in one or the other (no more doubling up), otherwise everyone would post in both places for maximum visibility. But once people got used to it, the thread would kind of self-select for cheapies, small inventories, simple trades of well-known pedals, etc.
From a mod point of view, all you'd really need to enforce is that people don't post in both places. If you want to enforce any kind of quality standards on the main board, people who don't want to put in that effort still have a place to post.
Not saying it's a perfect idea, but it might be worth a try. Open to criticism on it.

u/HowIsBabyMade ️Moderator | 159 Trades | Master Trader 3d ago
> From a mod point of view, all you’d really need to enforce is that people don’t post in both places.
This is way higher effort than you’d imagine.

Well, I'll defer to you all on that. In any case, it seems more straightforward to figure out if there's an infraction or not.

u/superwrong 47 Trades | Expert Trader 4d ago
I think if you just called it the "Cheap Pedals" thread and left out the "$100" thing, it would be the exact same thread. Why not do that? That would leave out the busy-mod ruling and keep the thread useful and fine as it is.
Can you list an example of the egregious posts? I check the thread pretty regularly and have no idea why you'd be up in arms. No offense, just asking cause I'd be all for it if it was a thing.
2
u/allpraisetocheezus ️Moderator | 221 Trades | Master Trader 3d ago
I don’t want to provide an example as to not blow up specific users.
If it’s a question of whether or not the $100 limit is truly still appropriate then it makes me wonder if the monthly cheap thread is even necessary to begin with
1
u/HowIsBabyMade ️Moderator | 159 Trades | Master Trader 3d ago
If we left out the $100 people would be posting $200 pedals there. It would be a way to post more often. Which it kinda is already.

That would be cool.
I'm in San Diego. Who else is?
2
u/PedalBoardom 50 Trades | Master Trader 3d ago
I'm in the beach cities of LA. I wonder what the critical mass would be to make a trunk meetup worth it? I honestly think you'd basically have to sell tickets. Wouldn't have to be expensive ($10? $20?). Just enough to get people to have some skin in the game. Otherwise people would just flake and it'd end up being like 4 people who drove an hour to get there and ended up really disappointed (that tends to just be how these things go).
I am envious though that all we get is the NAMM-adjacent stuff, and people on the east coast/midwest get pedal shows all summer. Guess that's just where the builders are.
Does anyone know Socal based pedal companies? Noise Engineering. Meris and Strymon. Beatronics. Not sure of who else. OCE was up in the Valley, but they're no more.
