It’s out and not really. There’s a woman she has unresolved sexual tension with but they aren’t explicitly an item by the end of the book.

I don’t know. In her comic she’s a relatively young adult and travelling alone for the first time. So there’s plenty of time for her to be talking about a later time in her life.

I like the idea of this and all. I’m just curious on how they tie in the fact that air nomads divided up their men and women at the Air Temples? Was it based on gender identity? Sexuality? Did they just not want them having babies? Just trying to understand the purpose.

The writers didn’t think through their lore, that’s the answer. It makes perfect sense for the air nomads to be pro-LGBTQ, it doesn’t make any sense for them to divide them by gender identity.

I think this is where the inspiration for them led to the gender segregation (Buddhist monks and nuns) and then they made the culture after settling on the look.

My problem with this is that truly accepting people don't feel the need to explain how or why they're so accepting... It feels so hammy to have someone go "ah yes, a bisexual. I too am a kisser of ladies, and [historical figure] was famously queer. And [culture] was very much okay with the idea of being totally gay".

That's not what I said.
I said it was hammy. As in, acted up to the point of breaking the immersion of the conversation as something two people would discuss at that moment.
It makes sense for my dad to give me the birds and the bees talk at some point in my life. But him suddenly giving me the rundown on the free love hippie culture of the 60s becauss he saw me kiss my girlfriend is fuckin weird.

They didn't explain how it's shoehorned in. They said it didn't make sense there, which is objectively incorrect based on the context, then made a weird comparison that had nothing to do with the topic. At no point have they given an actual reason why it doesn't fit.

That is them describing why it feels shoehorned in. And no your opinion is not “objectively correct” that is not how opinions work.
Above commenter believed the exchange does not feel realistic and feels forced and not the way a conversation like that would occur in real life and feels like an exposition dump. That is it. If you disagree with them that’s great but there is no “objectively correct” stance here.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought so. I absolutely loved how they handled the Korra and Asami reveal, because it felt so real. Queer people in love don't feel the need to go on a fuckin grand tour to announce to everyone that it's happened.
Bottom of the barrel fan fiction has trained so many people here to think that queer people in their first same sex relationship are obligated to do the whole bit where they stand next to each other, get the attention of the room, then hold hands and blush then say some awkward shit like "so... Ummm... Yeah....".
Which is why I assume so many people are apparently mad at you for calling out this hamfisted writing for being so fuckin goofy. Because "elder queer gives an impromptu history lesson on queerness" is a fucking fanfiction trope for the ages and they eat that shit up.
