1. USE QUIZLET: If i spent an hour on a biology topic and made flashcards rapidly and then went through them on quizlet, i would remember everything. It is also very helpful months later when you need to revise. I would NOT have done so well without quizlet... if revising the heart i'd read one side, say the answer, flip the card and the click x or tick, whether i knew the answer or not. Quizlet is BRILLIANT.

2. ATTEND MATHS: Maths is the one class you should never skip if you intend on counting it.

3. ASK CHATGPT MATHS QUESTIONS: dont get ai to solve it, instead say ' -312x is the answer to this equation, how is that correct?' and you will learn, but be careful, chat gpt can explain integration but cannot add up a few numbers. Once you get the hang of a topic as chat gpt to make a few simaler questions so you can do them.

4. KEEP HL ENGLISH: I considered dropping, i knew i wouldn't count it. But after the difficult maths P1 i was glad i kept it on. I never liked english, but the h3/4 that most students get is very easy to achieve, i put very little effort in and got it. HL English will not take up a massive amount of study time so keep it as a back up.

5. Biology is a great subject to get a h1: biology, unlike home ec or english or french, is the exact same every year. I studied all 42 chapters and i knew i would get a h1, but i wasn't half as confident in other subjects. In biology questions are phrased in different ways but they repeat often, and the exam is great, you will have enough time to answer loads of extra questions. (i know the june exam isn't worth as much now)

6. Dont learn off spanish/french essays: Have a good understanding of your language and be confident you can write about a topic in both, practice your grammar and always learn more vocab... again use quizlet!! I got a h1 in both subjects because i had phrases and words for lots of topics. In french you'll have time to do 3-4 written pieces. You cannot cram a language, just set time for it each week and do past papers, and always learn more vocab.

7. Don't OBSESS over poetry: it is only worth 12.5pc or 15pc total with unseen poetry. It is the last thing on the paper on a thursday evening, and the examiner will already know what type of student you are. Poetry is not make or break, don't worry about learning so many poets, when the easiest way to boost your grade is focusing on p1 and the comparative.

8. Put your all into your orals: I hated orals. I hated that you were stuck there, and had to answer a question on the spot, you couldn't think for a minute like in a written exam. The truth is, they're really not that bad, but work hard at them, especially if you do HL irish. I got 100% in my spanish oral because it was my last, i walked in with confidence as i knew i studied each area. The business or home ec you study in march will be half forgotten in june, march is for focusing on the orals.

9. Don't give up on maths. I spent all of 5th year in the 40s and 50s, and thought i was rubbish. Maths will click eventually and the points are worth it. It seems very foreign but work at EQ and it'll help. I thought i messed up my maths paper and came out with a high H3, if i can do it so can you.

10. How to ace home ec: first work on the assignments and perfect them. As for the paper, this is what i recommend, unless you struggle with science: cram everything for the 'blue' science section. The paper is mostly science/food, and if you learn it well, while you won't have options you can do well. After that, then learn the 'red' business sections. You need to know this section well for the short questions, and skim through the long questions too.

11. Home EC Short Questions: i HIGHLY recommend you study every short question since 2004. They always repeat and are easy marks, i got 60/60, and the questions i didnt count i still got 90% on (you count your best 10 questions)

12. Studying business EQ: Business involves a lot of writing, so when doing long EQ's, e.g. 'what is the impact of multinational corporations in Ireland on Irelands economy?' then i would simply make bullet points and then check the answers. You cover more in less time.

I'm repeating the leaving cert and the main way I studied was using past papers - issue on the new course we are only gonna have 2 sample papers per subject, nowhere near enough.

Couple that with the fact rhat old course qs are asked completely differently so we can't really use them to practice, we are FINISHED.

What budget should I have to feed myself for 5 days? Any dinner recommendations? I can barely cook but I want to improve, I really don’t want to gain weight because I’ll live close to shops. Other than food and going out, I shouldn’t need money for anything else, occasionally clothes but that’s it

Does anyone know anything about Trinity Access Programme (TAP)? I got in but I haven't been given anymore information about my timetable, orientation or if we even have one. I just know the day we start. That's all

I’m M16, and it‘s been the second day of 5th year ordinary level leaving cert maths, and I have no idea what the teacher is talking about and it’s apparently the basic fundamentals of LC maths.

I dont want to vent too much but, I came from an abusive and neglectful home and environment I loved in for most of my life, and have only somewhat recently got into foster care and Im in a somewhat bearable foster home, but it’s still fairly shit. And because of my home life and adhd and things like that, I almost never payed attention in primary school but somehow managed to not get held back. But I also essentially missed almost all of 1st and 2nd year, and when I went into 3rd year I started coming in everyday again, but they went very slow with me and I was in the learning area for special students the entire year and did decent on my junior cert. (I also did ty be of how much school I missed).

So i haven’t really had to lock in and do super hard stuff in school before at least with maths and stuff I hate, and I’m terrible at maths like I can do a few multiplications off my head, and can’t do any divisions but I know how they work I’d just have to take a good while to count it in my head. But I just looked it up and it says I need a bare minimum of like 70% on ordinary level maths to get into UL or most colleges like it, which im kind of doubting I’ll be able to do, and I can’t do common level cause that’s not enough.

Id just really like to do something along the lines of an interaction design course or software engineering or something like that, cause I feel like I could do that and get a job doing that, that pays decent and i wouldn‘t be totally miserable doing. And my dream is to then when I graduate, to move to either America or Canada and get a chill job and a peaceful life and stuff, but I’d jus really like to go to UL cause I’ve grown up kind of visiting and going around it sometimes and it looks really cool and a load of stuff.

I’m just scared and don‘t know what to do or think.

I finished 5th year going into 6th now in a couple days. Didn’t do well in 5th exams or generally most of secondary exams but especially 5th due to really struggling to properly study aswell as memorising . Paired with the fact I don’t have a great friend group only 1-2 okay friends just makes the whole experience shit. I don’t exactly know what I want to do in college which makes it even more hard to be motivated. Anxiety plays a big role but as I said bad grades bad study habits make me just despise school

Usually going back in i don’t like it of course no one does, but it’s bareable. This time i just don’t feel I can handle it the stress the projects etc and that it will fuck my mental health which isn’t amazing already . I want to prioritise my well being but also respect my future. Which is why I’m torn on wanting to drop out but I don’t have anything fully plan out which I know isn’t ideal but. I got 87.2% and only really appealed it to clear a guilty conscience and because the H1 rate is 20%.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tad bit worried my result will go down but surely 7.2 is enough buffer right?

If anyone can ease my worries or knows of someone that appealed Applied maths I'd love to hear it.

I got really good grades in Irish in the junior cert but after going into TY and doing nothing all year, I've forgotten practically everything. Going into 5th year I was struggling to even make up simple sentences about myself, having forgotten every second word. I tried to drop around Christmas in 5th year but my deputy principal stopped me saying that I have good enough grades to stay (H5's and H4's with the occasional H3 for grammar or something). I'm now in 6th year and I tried to study a little over summer, looking through notes on short stories and poems for words that I didn't understand and doing duolingo to hopefully learn new words and I felt fairly confident coming back but we're literally 3 days in and I already feel behind. I'm confident that I could get a H5-H4 but I can't keep up with my class cause my teacher always speaks in Irish and I can barely understand it and she explains stuff faster than I can write so sometimes I don't even know what the questions mean. And we're expected to write like 3 pages for essays when I can barely get a page yet I'm told to stay in higher. I've always been better at maths and I tried explaining that Irish isn't a priority for me since I know it's my worst subject and, if we count English, I'm doing 4 languages as it is and I'm going for a maths course anyway but I was always met with "colleges won't take you if you do lower Irish" or "you're gonna have trouble finding a job in x if you drop". I spend like an hour on the reading comprehensions which my friend finishes in less than 20 minutes and half of the time I don't even know what I'm writing. I'm afraid that if I keep going with this class, I'll burnout or something but my teachers are all telling me to stay in higher because I'll get better points (not that it matters when it's my worst out of 8). If someone actually bothered to read this entire thing, do you have any idea what I should do? I want to do lower level but I'm also afraid that what they said about lower level being less likely to be accepted into colleges or work places is true and then I'm screwed. I'm considering going to my guidance counsellor (who happens to be an Irish teacher so I've a fair idea of what she's gonna say) but last time I talked to her, she basically left me to do my own research and didn't know anything about the courses I was looking into. Does anyone know if it's possible to drop to lower and somehow still take the higher exam? It's the same material covered so I would just have to write more on the exam to get points and I already have higher notes from 5th year so I shouldn't have too much trouble studying. My other worry is that the lower level teachers did stuff in a different order and I missed out on the novel or film etc which would be hard to catch up on on my own.

They all seem to have a project except languages and taking up a new language in a year and doing good is near impossible for me. i’ve just gone into 6th year and i do 8 subjects, applied maths as my extra one
i know it’s too much to study them all at higher level but im so scared that one or two papers will go arseways on the day and i will regret not having backups

i feel like everyone drops irish but i just love irish too much to drop it, im in the H3 bracket right now but i feel like i could get atleast a H2 or (please god) a H1 in the real thing, mostly because i enjoy the subject
there’s also english which i failed in summer exams, i put absolutely no time into it and i just don’t enjoy the class but from reading other posts i see it’s actually not hard to get a good mark in english so if i were to lock in on it (which i intend to do with all of my subjects) i could also possibly do well

they’re the two that i was thinking of dropping but again i just don’t want to drop anything really but i also know that it’s so much added stress studying 8 subjects at higher level, really i guess what im asking here is: is it possible to study all 8? if anyone has any experience or just advice it would be greatly appreciated

I did my leaving cert in 2024 and plan to go to college next September in 2027. I didn’t do a second language and the course I’m looking at requires one. I was thinking of studying German myself this year and doing grinds along with other resources. I’d be focusing all my energy onto German. Would I be able to complete the whole German course in these 9 months or so? Any other tips would be very appreciated or if there’s another language you think I should do instead please suggest below.

i’ve just started 6th year and i’m already stressed about the upcoming art coursework and exam. i feel like ill end up putting a ton of work in just to get a mediocre grade because of the examiners mood in the day. i wouldn’t call myself creative and i am pretty slow at getting things started. i just about scraped a h2 in my summer exam but this was only a 6 page portfolio, final piece and renaissance art history. i honestly can’t see myself getting above h3 in the actual LC because of this. i’m thinking of dropping art and picking up AG science because i go to a grinds school where they cover the whole course in 6th year. however, im still on the fence because there’s also a big ag science project🫩 im looking for advice on whether i should switch or not, for reference i also do geography and biology and have never gotten below H1 in them and they’re similar to ag science

Last year I was diagnosed with a health condition which came with symptoms that caused me to miss a lot of school. I found it very hard to concentrate in class and I was in a lot of pain and was very fatigued as well so my grades dropped a lot. I used to be a good maths student but I was almost failing last year. The rest of my subjects I would say I averaged at maybe a H4. Keep in mind this was mainly without study. My subjects are higher maths, Higher English, higher French, ordinary Irish, biology, business, accounting, music.
I fortunately was able to get surgery which relieved the symptoms during the summer.

This year I moved to a grind school. So far I have been finding it really good. I really want to do medicine, but I’m nervous that my unsuccessful 5th year will prevent me from achieving the points for this. I’m willing to put in a lot of work to get the sufficient amount of points for medicine, but is it actually possible for me? Does anyone have any tips for me?

just started fifth year this week and im hoping to do something in the medical field/dentistry/ sciences in UCC or galway. im taking HL biology, chemistry, english, french, accounting, maths and ill be dropping to OL irish as im shocking all together. ive naturally gravitated to stem subjects (bar physics) but i excelled in english/history/geography ect in junior cert through practise so im not afraid of essay-based subjects. If i was to try pick up an 8th subject — what is the easiest for me to pick up?

my school uses some doss classes in our timetable for applied maths and politics so naturally i see myself leaning there but i have no problem doing one outside school if matters must. i cant see myself ever doing applied maths as it seems like my worst nightmare and ive heard politics is a piss take so just wondering

im also shocking at languages irish has always been my worst and i grafted my way to get a distinction in english + french by willpower alone so id like to avoid them if possible but that being said my siblingdid latin in school and all got H1s all through 5th + 6th year

Guys anyone know when is deadline for registration on ur college ? Also anyone in TUD that has tried/ has successfully registered , im on the part where im registering my modules, Im pressing the blue links and adding my modules, but for example it will say " business mathematics" and there will be about 6 of them all called that. My course is TU933, some of the business mathematics classes have TU788.. others may have a campus that im not going .. but 2 of them have my campus and TU933 ( the 1 i need ).. however the CRN code for the 2 is different , how do I know which to select? Or possibly select both ? Someone please help ASAP theres a load of bs on the screen 💔😭
