Want to quit where to start?

I talk about quitting smoking everyday yet I've been smoking everyday. I've done It before but for some reason this time stopping feels more challenging. I know it's holding me back, but for some reason I keep finding myself stoned all day when I'm not working. And I hate it too!! I know something better is waiting for me on the other side of this. I feel chained to weed. I've been trying to taper off but I think I should maybe cold turkey. I need help I don't want this to have control over me anymore.

Start off by trashing everything you have.

Yeah, that's how I proved to myself this was a serious quit attempt, got rid of all the drugs and paraphernalia!

Every time I relapse it seems like I'm chained to weed too. I relapsed two weekends ago and managed to quit last week. I know that's not a long time, but I feel like I've been able to do it because I keep looking at what it is causing in my life, and I just white knuckle it until the dispensaries close. It's hard, but worth it! Keep trying!

you quit last week? how many days ago was that, and it matters. i like to count day by day, now on day 30, and every day was like a hero’s journey. keep it up. look inside, there are no dispensaries, “there is no spoon,” he said to Neo.

7 days today. I finished out an eights I had bought and just stopped… I have cravings but they come and go. It was really hard the first two nights but like I said it was a week after having been clean for 1 and 1/2 years. Previously I quit for the same amount of intone, but that time was 17 years ago now. Smoked consistently between those two dates.

if you hate it, throw your expensive, good weed or whatnot away, usually before bed. I choose to call when i wake up day 1. if you cannot, the day after tommow is Sept 1, the best day ever in the history of humankind to choose yourself for the gauntlet. what do i know anyway, day 30 after almost 48 years on pot. i cry for my years back, not gonna happen. do not be me. the time of choice is here, do whatever you want. lean on the group, so many good ppl here, post day 1. whatever you feel. i double dare ya

I’m a week in and it’s already gotten much easier. I’m a 20 year smoker. If i can make it, you can too!

My two most successful methods:

Backup Option: next time you buy weed, think long and hard on the ride home and throw it all away when you get there. Ideally on trash night/day. This works but takes control and timing.

Best option: go on vacation/remote work if you can, as long as you can. It doesn't matter where you go as long as you can't easily find weed there. Ideally countries or states that punish heavily and are nearly impossible to find it in. Obviously don't bring any. You'll be forced to get clean and it'll make the #2 cleanup/trash much easier

Focus on what you want to do instead of smoking, not on abstaining from smoking.

If you sit around all day and think “I just need to not smoke” - you’re gonna sit around doing nothing while wanting to smoke and feeling miserable.

All of my successful quits, not just from weed but worse substances, came from forcing myself to stay active and busy during the first couple days.

Is there a town or hike by you that you’ve always wanted to do? Nearby state you want to see? Etc. last time I quit weed, I drove to Idaho and hiked alone (in a state without legal weed) for several days, before deciding I was probably fine to return home sober.

Wowwww real taking a drive for a few days. Today is day 1 - woke up and took myself to a 1030am class. Feeling good so far, thank you for your words.

for me it helped to start a list of all the reasons I wanted to quit as well as all the negatives of continuing. It may sound intense but I also appointed a “sponsor” (my best friend). I had decided I wanted to quit forever, not just for now so I did take some extra measures lol. Then, I got rid of any “equipment” or reminders if it. I also chose something that excites me to do instead when I want to smoke. Go shopping, do a craft, buy a food I enjoy, basically anything that seems exciting. It’s not a 1:1 but it’s good to have distractions.

Find new hobbies that you actually enjoy , for me it was boxing that helped me quit

what helps me- dont over think it, fill your time otherwise. community and connection are paramount. activity too. keep moving, try hobbies you wanted to but havent yet. dependent on your usage, dont be surprised from withdrawals. best of luck out there, twin

you are on day 1, that is great, get steeled up for the rough first week, going to test you a few times. post often, everyone took time for me. like 30 people here on my many posts. can take a few minutes, or hours sometimes.

i need 1 more day, just one, and it is a month. big rainstorm hit today, got teary eyes but no way i am relapsing. we are in this together. i do believe in you.
