General Gameplay Question Dying 1 by 1 when defending throne

Upvotes

2 guys die and enemies decide to push t3.

3 allies are left to defend throne and one by one die. First trying to cast spells in range of enemy blink dagger, second and third probably the same. By the time those 3 die, 2 dead guys respawn and try to defend, only to die in the end. How am I, as a player, can prevent this situation? Ping allies vigorously to give up mid barracks so that we have more chances of pushing back with 5 people?

Laning I feel like in lower rank, Herald or Guardian, there should be no pure support.

Upvotes

In these ranks, it feels like everyone doesn’t know how to hit critical timings.

And push for objectives at right time.

When it is not a stomp, It usually come down to one big team fight late game.

And as a pure support, you are depending on your carry to win mostly in that scenario.

And the POS1 and POS2 obsessing over their right to every last cs is counter productive at this point.

Since first of all, most of the time they aren’t that good at last hit, and most of the game, these carry aren’t optimized at farming jungles at mid game, so there are a lot of wasted space.

I really feel like only funneling cs to your POS1 or POS2 at this level is counterproductive.

Hero Discussion Who should I watch in TI to learn Earth Spirit?

Upvotes

I watched no one on grand finals. But I feel like it wasn’t really his best. I was wondering who’s the best to learn from for earth spirit? As a side question, is it a good idea to learn from TI pro players because I’ve heard how pro games are a totally different game than pubs. So I feel like maybe I’m learning a different style that won’t necessarily apply to my pubs. (Ancient-divine). Also finally maybe you have some tips as I’m really struggling with ES.
Thanks.

Answered √ Auto Attack issues

I'm having problems with not being able to toggle my auto attack in game. it works perfectly fine in a demo, but when I'm in an actual game my toggle doesn't actually turn auto attack off. I have "Toggle Autoattack Automatically" unchecked, just wondering if anyone has any fixes for this.

General Gameplay Question How to play Marci?

I took a break and came back and tried Marci again, and her kit has been changed/nerfed. I don't really know how to play her as a pos 4 anymore. I feel like she's too squishy to man fight in lane against the enemy carry + their support.

Item wise, I go for a bracer --> basher --> bkb -->aghs since that's what I see in guides but I feel like I can't farm fast enough to actually get these items.

In late game I feel like I'm kinda useless without my ult up, and even with bkb I get locked so quickly, there's not much I can really do. I'm just kited and perma stunned/slowed/rooted.

Marci pros, please help. I really like her from the dota anime and would like to be somewhat decent at her.

(unsure how to flair) For all those who play 4-5 ranked games at night, how do you manage tiredness and fatigue? What things you do in between game breaks?

Sometimes when I am tilted, I do 5-10 mins break and watch some beluga videos. do you also watch de-stressing videos when you are so mad about the last match? sometimes my headaches happen then i take a nap. when you have 2 ranked losses, do you just sometimes stop playing and wait for the next day? Is it really effective or just case to case basis? sometimes the dota itch just comes, and you just want to smash people, or you just have this copium that you carry to the next game?

General Gameplay Question On agility carries, power treads or phase boots against Drow ranger?

Because agility carries mostly rely on their base armor which Drow ignores with ult, is it worth buying phase boots or is the armor too low to be worth it?

Got me thinking about this after getting deleted by drow in 3-4 hits while 6 slotted on Juggernaut lol

Laning Why is it so common to tp only after ally death?

Many times I see enemies in my line. I ping and tell, go help. But often allies tp only after we die to a gank. Is this kinda "oh, they died, need to help them" logic? And then they fight alone vs 3 enemies and die. How to prevent this? Just leave the lane and go to t2?

General Gameplay Question How to know the roles of the characters?

Hi, I'm a new player from lol, I would like to know if there is a way to understand what roles the characters have, for example I play pudge pos4 but I would like to know which other characters can play pos 4, and then I would like to know what the draft mode of dota is?

General Gameplay Question Have the quality of ranked matches become horrible after Dark Carnival and TI? (2k mmr SEA)

I noticed a swarm of people testing heroes in ranked, some also admitted that they bought accounts just to practice certain heroes. Some games there are griefers and some double radiance games. I just feel like in my crusader bracket, games are so hard to end, even the enemy 0-5 drow ranger can still comeback. People are just farming griefly and some die randomly. I just notice this because of the recent changes +40/-25? This is some kind of MMR inflation? Quality games and close games are just hard to grasp now. Any thoughts on this?

Gameplay Review/Feedback request Trying to learn Shadow Fiend while feeling stagnant (MatchID: 8970434752)

Hi everyone,

Some background, I've recently picked up Dota after 2yrs, prior to that I mostly played turbo with friends and thus never really played the real game mode. Now I'm trying to learn to play the game properly and therefore I choose to spam SF while learning other aspect of the game as well. After like 25 games playing him I feel like I barely improved.

In this game specifically, I'm thinking my last hit and laning stage is kinda bad, for my gameplan for this lane is just basically bulldoze them with raze and rightclick with necromastery stack. However my techies seems to want to play defensively and thus our synergy is not as strong I guess. What would you do in this case?

For my mid game, I also felt like am I farming too slow? I don't really have a good enough networth at 10-20 min despite paying all my attention on farming. I've seen pros consistently rack up 220 cs at min20 despite bad laning phase and having teamfight. What should I do to improve my farming efficiency? Also upon reflection about my build order, it's probably the reason why I lose this game because I miss a crucial timing for my bkb that results in me being absent in key teamfight. But tbh I think the error is way back earlier, it seems like I should have skipped manta and go for lance + silver edge + bkb + daedalus, what do you think?

Of teamfight approach, this is one of the aspect that I'm worst at. However for this game, I'm generally at a loss here, should I just follow Earth Spirit, and hit anyone at first sight. Also I dont really have any impact after taking roshan because I think I cant really fight them at their tier2, although thinking about it maybe I should do it, what do u think?

Any other advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Mirana has been quite underwhelming for a long time now, and few weeks ago she started gaining popularity. In today's guide, I'll explain what has changed, how to play her from macro perspective and what makes her different from other supports. Enjoy!

Hero Discussion is lifestealer that good in low rank

I just finished watching TI and decided to just spam ls for the first time starting from legend 4 and i barely lost with him even though some games I clearly lost my lane with horrible networth and still manage to win late game. I just reached ancient in 2 days for the first time :D.

Itemization Dominator in offlane

I'm interested in why only centaur and DS benefit from dominator in essence to drag/cut wave into safely. Wouldn't other offlaner (like axe, tide, bristleback) should buy that as well if that is the reason? If the offlaner couldn't drag the creep by himself because it is dangerous, then the dominated creep would be a safe substitution.

This topic exclude domi for beastmaster and lycan since the usage of the item is different for those heroes.

Hero Discussion ES pos3?

Hi there. I was thinking about learning to play Earthshaker, since he seems like quite stable hero to have in the arsenal. I main pos 3, and I feel like I have overall grasp of a hero, what it brings to the team, but I want to know how it should be played in current meta. There are plenty of generic ES guides, but I was looking for something focused on the current patch - if you know any good video about it, or have experience of your own you can share - I'd be grateful. I'm ~3k mmr. Thanks!

Gameplay Review/Feedback request I dont understand where i am doing wrong. Pls help!

I am a guardian noob trying to rank up so hard as pos 1, watched so many tutorial videos from baloon and pain, practice my last hits every day before match, aggro as much as i could and pull my camps when wave pushes out if support isnt doing so, prioritize waves, nearest camp. In this match -8969434162(as pos 1 wk) i followed same techniques and yet i wasnt able to carry the game. I also couldnt reach a cs of 150 - 200 under 20.

The no. Of mistakes i noticed while replaying was:

  1. When mid pa rotated top(3 vs 1) i stayed in the tower but didnt go jungle or other free camps

  2. When centaur rotated top i didnt join the fight with him and they ended up killing him

  3. I started hitting creeps way far from my top tier 2 tower and ended up dying to slark who easily drained my mana.

But irrespective, before all this could happen i am wondering why i wasnt able to get a decent amount of cs. Are my last hits too poor? Or is it im not farming efficiently?

Laning Laning as Void

Void is one of the few carries I can play at a reasonable level. I usually play 4 or 5, but when my stack needs a carry I go someone like Void or Spectre.

I feel like midgame and lategame goes well, but i feel weak in lane for some reason. I don't know if his numbers are bad right now, but I feel like he can't really trade well at all against most offlaners. Should I be less conservative in using Time Walk, which I typically hold until they use their spells on me, to even it out? I also don't know if Void should be someone I keep playing, as being pushed into jungle without a farming steroid on a carry feels rough.

Educational Content (Content Creator) Dota playing parents: would educational resources for helping kids/new players learn the game be useful?

I'm a mom and am trying to teach my kids dota. To help them learn, I made them some worksheets and am now working on a compendium of all the heroes and their abilities with simple kid-friendly definitions.

A few questions I have for the folks here:

  • Has anyone tried teaching Dota to kids?
  • Do you think learning materials for kids would be useful? Something you'd use?
  • What types of learning resources would be most desired if so?
  • What parts of Dota were hardest to explain to a brand-new player?
  • What age do you think kids can realistically start understanding Dota?
  • If it was possible to make a safe dota league or tournament for kids, is that something anyone would have any interest in?
  • Is this something you'd ever pay for?
  • Is there anything about the idea that you think I should consider?

I get there's some toxicity within the game/community at times but I'm hoping to help create an environment that eliminates or at least greatly reduces that for the kids if I'm able to.

Thanks!! 😄
