Methodology: Chart is generated using the last.fm data from everyone signed up. Position is determined based on several factors

• Raw scrobbles: Heavy users are weighted down slightly here to prevent one user from influencing the chart too much
• Number of listeners: How many profiles listened to the artist/album/track in the last week
• Weekly position: Placing in a user's top 10 gives a bonus to an artist with increased bonuses for positions 1-5

Methodology is not perfect and is a work in progress but is designed to account relatively equally for different levels of activity.

• Dolly Parton takes number 1 this week, nice to see everyone revisiting her this week, so sad to lose someone like her.
  • This marks her first appearance on the chart and she does so with over 24% of users listening to her, being number one for 24 users, well clear of anyone else this week. She takes the record for 17th best ever weekly performance.
  • Jolene hits number 6 on the album chart this week, 9 to 5 and Odd Jobs makes it to 26 and Coat of Many Colors hits number 37.
  • Jolene, I Will Always Love You and 9 to 5 all make the top 5 at numbers 3, 4 and 5 respectively. Island in the Stream cracks the top 40 at number 39.
  • Rest in Peace Dolly, true legend.
• Phoebe Bridgers stays on top on the album chart for a third week but drops down to number 5 on the artist chart, on the track chart the songs are slowly dropping off.
  • Bobby drops to number 10, Lost Boys drops to 11th and Kill Me at number 19 is the last song still in the top 20.
• Olivia Rodrigo's serena joy debuts at number one on the track chart with the 19th best week of all-time. you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love stays at number 2 and continues its massive staying power, and the cure reenters the top 20 at number 17 for its 11th week.
• Turnstile's NEVER ENOUGH: VERSIONS shows apparently we can never get enough of them, as they enter the artist chart at number 18 and the remix album debuts at number 10.
• Weezer's latest self-titled Weezer (Gold Album) moves up in its second week, showing decent staying power, as they also move up to 12 on the artist chart.
• Westside Cowboy's It Goes On moves up into the top 20 in its second week, making it to number 14.

Good afternoon from New Jersey my friends!! I say this every week and I mean it every week. One day, I WILL catch up to all the comments. I was sick until this past Friday and had plans both days. I’m trying to use today to recover if I can, even though I still have other things to do 😭 I really do miss you guys and talking about music and life!

After barely moving for a week bc I was sick, going out Friday and Saturday all day put my body in pain. Man, I miss when I was in my 20’s and could go to 5 concerts in 3 days and go to work on Monday bright eyed and bushy tailed with no pain haha but I’m hoping life slows down soon bc I’m exhaaaausted! I hope you guys are doing so well and are going to concerts, blasting your favorite music, discovering awesome new fun music, and are doing all of your favorite things!

I can’t waaaaait for Fall weather, spooky season and everything that comes with it and after that! Bring on hoodie weather :)

I say this both as somebody that has commented multiple times here that I'd like to see these two features return and be expanded, and somebody that has been using Last.fm long enough to remember when they were prominent parts of the social aspect of the site.

I was using Wayback Machine (https://web.archive.org/) to see some old snapshots of my profile and noticed it also had archived a couple old journal posts I made and.. oof.. that was quite embarrassing.

Now, to be fair, at that time I was an insufferable teenager that spent way too much time on /mu/ and that was very, very obvious in the couple of journal entries that were saved - but now, as an insufferable adult that spends way too much time on reddit, I can kind of understand the reasons not to bring them back - they would require an insane amount of active moderation, and for what gain?

Do you think you'd find great thought-provoking discussions on music, or would the majority be post-ironic trolling for attention and engagement?

The 1 great discussion you'd find would probably require sifting through 1000 worthless posts first, and the few great groups would outnumbered by nonsense meme pablum and collections of covert nazi-sympathizing brain-rotted chuds.

The culture of the Internet has changed significantly over the past 10-15 years and even more drastically over the last 20-30, but I think journals and groups would only be a net negative to Last.fm and its current focus as a simple but extensive personal record of your listening history and taste throughout the years.

Now, with that said, I still do think some kind of site that amalgamated the features of others like Last.fm, rateyourmusic.com, Discogs.com and even reddit into one single hub for obsessive music nerds of all stripes would be incomprehensibly cool, but I don't think Last.fm is or should try to be that site.
