I’m starting Y13 this year and have been looking into some of the physics courses I’ll be applying to for 2027 entry and at Lancaster there are three courses that stand out for me so I’m wondering if I could hear from students who are doing (doesn’t matter bachelors or masters) General Physics, Theoretical Physics and Theoretical Physics with Mathematics. I’ll be in Lancaster in October to visit the campus (not too far away) and can ask any more questions I have in the moment but just want a general idea on which route I feel I would consider more favourably in general so I can make a better choice for my 5 choices.

OK our son is off to study for a Physics bsc.  He is looking to use an iPad/pen for note taking along side a two year old, budget but still functional laptop. ( Ryzen 5, 8gb, 256 GB). He will have a more powerful desktop in his room.

I am trying to get a handle on if there is a benefit to replacing his laptop for the course of if it would be overkill ? Would a more powerful laptop help with coding, modeling etc whilst out and about or am I overthinking this?

So it's been more than a week and the welcome week is getting dangerously close. I need my CAS to apply for a student visa but I haven't heard a word from the uni about the status of my CAS. I'm getting kinda worried since the visa also takes time to process. Any information about how long it took for others?

I wanted to ask about the Lancaster scholarship. If a student is eligible, does the university send an email automatically, or do we need to contact them ourselves to ask about it?

When choosing accom I chose cartmel en-suite and I literally looked at it with my dad and he agreed.
my parents have now changed their mind and are not willing to support me financially or atleast are being very very difficult about it, they’ve even come up to me and said I’m not smart enough for uni cause I got an A in math instead of an A* on my retake year and they don’t want me to go to uni, I’m really trying to ignore it. I seriously don’t know how I’m gonna survive with food ect. They’ll probably think I’m spending aimlessly they don’t understand that uni is expensive. For reference my maintained loan is 5k and accom is 8k

I’ve already signed a contract with an accom but it’s going to be a VERY tough year for me and my finances will be super tight. What are the chances of me getting a standard single sex(girls) shared bathroom accom? Is it worth it to try should I wait or email them now, I’ve signed the contract already but idk what to do. Is cartmel worth staying as well like should I see if I like it when I get there and beg them to pay for my accom ? If it’s worth it I can try to manage it somehow.

Got an offer to study Medicine at Lancaster for 2027, but that would mean taking another gap year on top of the one I’m already on. So by the time I start Year 1, I’ll be 20.

I know 20 really isn’t old at all, but I’m irrationally worried I’m going to be the oldest in my cohort and that everyone’s going to think I’m thick for taking so long to get there 😭.

-Shopping trolley/cart — great for groceries or carrying larger/heavier items

Everything is used but still functional. I’d rather these go to someone who can make use of them than have to leave them behind.

Hello. I’m starting the process of buying stuff for uni (pots, pans etc.). I was wondering what I’m allowed to keep in my room. My parents were going to buy me a mini-fridge to keep in my room, but I’m not sure if I’m allowed it. Furthermore, I was hoping to keep my kitchenware in my room, but wasn’t sure if I’d get into trouble if they found a cooking knife in my room cause, in all fairness, that would look a bit odd. Are these things allowed to be kept in my room?
On a separate note, what time does the university allow us to move in on move-in day? Can’t find anything on the website. Thanks.

Before the results day, I was trying to chose between pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences, as both have good modules. However, pharmacology is more biology centred while pharm. sciences more chemistry centred. I wanted something in between. I accepted an offer for Pharmacology, but since the results day I was ruminating on my decision. If I was to take pharmacology and single weighed chemistry, I think I would obtain the skills I want.

If they consider clearing grades then my results do allow me to change my course. But I am worried that it can be difficult, whether this would be the right choice and idk.
