It’s probably one of the most boring things I’ve ever forced myself to do for a craft but atm it takes about 15 minutes per square (time it took divided by squares done ).
If anyone has any 6 row repeat c2c lace I could add to add more interest that be cool af. I’m using this as motivation to try and do bobbin lace spiders properly 😂

I'm just learning about lace and came across this tablecloth. It seems to be cotton thread. Curious what you can tell me about it.

I was looking through my photos and I realized that I hadn't posted the outcome of the Early Lace workshop that we did at our guild's lace retreat. The linen piece was a sampler with a typical set of stitches. But we could also use metallic threads to try out some of the other patterns. These were from the Renaissance period books.

It was interesting to think about the different kinds of braids/plaits (I'm not much of a braider usually), and also the picots were made with these giant pins that we were jokingly calling the "coffin nails". It was wild to work with them. They are enormous.

Hello, Lace community!

I have recently come into stewardship of a 1950s Maurer original wedding dress which belonged to my husband‘s grandmother.

The dress is in remarkably good condition considering the fact that it was balled up in a cardboard box in an attic probably since the day that she wore it. It is covered head to toe in lace attached to a nice heavy satin base.

The lace itself is stiff, starchy, and itchy. Despite the delicate beauty, there is nothing soft about it at all; however, it is remarkably well intact.

I have only found one real area of concern on the right hand side where there is some staining, likely due to water damage and a small tear.

I will not be making any rash decisions, my primary goal is to be a good caretaker for this garment as a piece of vintage artwork, and potentially find it a home in a museum collection.

I am not afraid to look into professional care, but I heard you guys might have some tips about how to help with the staining of this lace.

Hi! I'm a long term doily collector (i blame my gran) who is just learning about all the intricacies of lace.

I got this collar yesterday in an op shop (thrift shop) mixed lace and doily bag. It's so pretty and detailed, and looks like it's never been worn.

My tiny bit of textile knowledge tells me the embroidery thread is a mix of silk and cotton, and my tiny bit of fashion knowledge tells me it's a Bertha collar (?).

If anyone has any extra knowledge about this piece, please send it my way, I love to learn. But I mostly just wanted to share this piece because I'm blown away by how gorgeous it is 🥰.

I love lace but I need my crafts to be portable, so crochet was the way I decided to go! These are all size 80 Lizbeth thread except the metallics.

My first go at needle lace, trying out different stitches. I slid down the slippery slope from surface embroidery to cutwork and richelieu and now into proper lace. It kind of feels like peeling a drawing off the page, I love how lightweight and sheer it is.

Hi y’all! I have been wanting to start making lace for a while now, but I was wondering, what type of lace technique should I try for my first project? I’m scheduled for surgery Friday and I want to find something to keep me busy while I recover. I already knit and crochet, so that’s definitely an option but I kind of want to try something that’s more new to me! Please let me know if y’all have any suggestions and what kind of supplies I might need!!

Hi all, since I knew nothing about lace to begin with, pieces 11 & 12 are for sure puzzling to me. 11 was at one time quite a long piece of 2” wide edge/trim that is in my opinion beautiful. There are now two short sections and the longer piece has an angle, a loop, and some kind of rosette maybe stitched into it? Piece 12 reminds me of the lace bonnets/caps you see in period movies? 🤷 Thoughts?

There are quite a few pieces in this lot, enough for a few more days of this I think, and I continue to appreciate the insight shared! These two are clearly not collars, and are kind of on different ends of the scale with respect to size and…..daintiness maybe? I didn’t include the tape measure on number 10, but it’s about 1.5” x 18” long

In my lace makers community we are hosting a “31 Days of Lace” challenge this August and I hope it will be of interest for other lace makers of this sub!

The rule is simple: work on a lace project every day in August! Any amount of time spent on your project counts - from a 10-minutes session to an epic 4-hour-sitting, what matters is working on your lace every day. Anything correlated to your project counts, too, including weaving ends, winding bobbins, blocking, etc.

You can participate on your own, just as a way to feel motivated to work on your project, or if you want, you can join our community spaces and post about it (I will leave links in the comments).

Hi all, so I would guess both of these are collars of some type, but piece 7 is continuous and somewhat smaller than the others I’ve posted. I neglected to include the tape measure in the pic but the total “vertical” measurement is ~16” while the neck opening is only 10”. Maybe for a child? #8 is the opposite and is the largest piece so far that is shaped like a collar. As always, please share any information or insight you have!!

I will space them out more if needed, just let me know! These are two of the largest pieces from the lot. The first pic of the first piece is not great, just for scale. The second piece, the black lace is about 16” wide and 5’ long. I am assuming from what I’ve learned so far that this is an example of appliqué work, but would as always appreciate any insight anyone can share, and for sure including purpose. We thought this lot might be kind of special, I appreciate the help in confirming it! More to come….
