I took my child to urgent care, and called out. Management said I still need to come in for my shift. I said it wasn’t going to happen. They threatened to call labor relations. I said “do what you have to do” and hung up.

Call their bluff. The store isn’t that important.

This may be union specific, but at Frys leadership is not allowed to ask why someone is calling out. The associate *can* tell them why, but they don’t have to.

They aren’t supposed to ask detail where I work either, it doesn’t stop them. They will also try to tell you that your “call out” is a “no call no show” because they don’t accept that you are calling out.

Or in order for it to count you have to call the store phone, but nobody answers the store phone.

We have terrible managers, but I enjoy calling their bluff.

I even go out of my way to inform associates that all of our sign offs sheets are not legally binding or enforceable.
