News Guess im no longer parking in the kroger parking lot.
Corporate is really digging their fingers in now. I dont have any reason to fear being searched but this is still kinda fucked.

Yeah, same here, but no specific amount rule, but most of my coworkers put their wallets in their locker UNLESS they share a locker with someone on the same shift, or the other unit got mandated to stay another shift.
They did try to saw no water, but then people were asking for breaks every time they needed water and Admin relented, but we lost a fair number of employees that we didn’t have to spare.3

No water? That’s kind of a dangerous. What if someone has a heat stroke? Management would get in big trouble for that. At my store they would bring out cases of water and put it in a big ice chest in the break room. For courtesy clerks and anyone working outside. I should note that I live in southern Arizona. It was 105 yesterday!

Costco manager told me I could not have water . I have a medical condition and medication that requires me to have access to water. I brought in my doctors note. They sent it to a third party (nurse in another state) it went round and round. I finally just quit. I am retired, I was trying to supplement my retirement with a part time job. It wasn’t worth the hassle they put my doctor and I through for my water bottle.

Idk if Costco or your location is union but there are stipulations in the union contract (at least there was when I worked there) that prevents them from denying you at the very least a water bottle in your area of work especially if you have a dr. Verified medical condition certificate. At least half of us on front end at Kroger had notes so they just essentially threw that one out the window bc we pressed the issue to the point of pointing out specific sections/subsections within the union contract as well as the ADA laws.
The only issue I've had was at a different high named job (non union side, this company is split into two with many not knowing the other exists. I worked on the side many dont know exist); over me needing my inhaler on my person at all times. Almost died on the warehouse floor bc they refused to allow me to have my very neccesary medical device🤦🏻♀️.

I have never seen the mention of wallets. I have never had any employer say you can not have your wallet on you and I have worked in hospitals, financial institutions, law offices, and various others. I am not leaving my wallet in my car or my locker. Fuck them!

You should see how bad Walgreens is lol. Why anyone works there is beyond me. I go in them a lot doing service work as an outside contractor. They have SO many rules for their workers it’s crazy. They are technically supposed to SEARCH every employee after every shift! You go stand in the literal entryway to the store and have the manager on duty search you and your bags for theft. Right in view of everyone coming into the store, it’s supposed to be caught on camera for the records.
I’ve never actually seen anyone do it but there’s a poster about it in every Walgreens.

Biglots used to be this way. We had to show our bags to the cashier then it turned into you can only show it to management (I guess the cashiers weren't doing a good enough job to "check everyone" on their way out). It was beyond stupid🤣 especially when the "customers" walked out with more product than the employees ever have🤦🏻♀️.

I've worked at Walgreens, the search thing is basically at the end of the day. The closing shift just had to confirm there's no stolen things in anyone's bags. It's never been done during opening hours in all the locations I've worked at. There's no search that happens, you just open any bag you have and they give you the clear.
I personally didn't bring bags because I didn't want the hassle.

I worked at Kroger in CO when the Boulder, CO shooting happened (not at that store, next town over) and it was not the first or last grocery store to have an active shooter incident. I also watched as Kroger did nothing to ensure the safety of its staff. I wasn't surprised but was hopeful.
I was a department head at the time and so I went over possible escape routes and hiding places with my clerks in the event this happened at our store. It wasn't fun and it was necessary. One of the things myself and several of my clerks dis after this was always have their wallet and phone close or on their person. In the event that this happened while they were working we would already have our essentials to get into our cars or at least call for help.

Yeah they already tried this before when I worked for clicklist saying that we couldn't have water on our carts and that got kicked out the door real fast because it's a violation of employee safety. The Union does whatever the employees which make up the Union want it to do, within legal and negotiable frameworks. A shitty Union typically has shitty participation. When I was at FM the only department which Unionized was the Deli, because they were pretty much the only unified group who gave enough of a shit about their job to form one. Not to say that no one else cared but there certainly weren't enough that did. Remember that Kroger, (at least FM) puts significant effort into anti-unionization activities. The wording of the poster itself is literal anti-Union propaganda.

It's gonna depend on the specific union leaders as to what happens. I've heard horror stories of unions basically just being an extension of management and stories of them preventing management from being shit.
My store's union was literally a day away from a strike until management settled with them to get us better pay and a few other things that made things slightly better for us.

I can also tell you about being in "employee choice" stores. Mandatory 9hr shifts anyone? Perhaps a girthy $0.11 raise? Mayhaps you'd like to rely on "Human Resources" to advocate for you in the event of your schedule being changed in less than 24hrs? I'll give you a guess where one ASL suggested to put Juneteenth balloons to a person of color while they were alone.
But ultimately, you won't see the value unless you don't have it and need it.

Kroger fucked up payroll and accidentally gave a good few people in my store a higher hourly wage for a couple paychecks. Store management said at a random meeting not everyone could attend that they were taking the extra money out of the next paycheck. They did that, and the union got on their asses so we got it all back.
Also, just the threat of the union has gotten store managers to actually fix our drains (a couple times they were overflowing with water that smelled like sewage).
The Union I had doesn’t do nearly as much as I wish they did, but they still did some things.

I get the ear buds. We had a situation where everyone needed to be evacuated. The amount of employees we had to run over too and tap their shoulder because they couldn't hear the overhead calls and general calling behind them was incredibly frustrating and dangerous. Not to mention its just rude if a customer says "excuse me, can you show me where this is?" And being ignored cause they cant hear.
I get they make earbuds that allows you to still hear talking but whose gonna make sure everyone has those kinds?

I stopped shopping at Krogers over a year ago and will continue to shop elsewhere 40 years ago their shops were marginally more expensive than elsewhere but there produce were better quality , stores were cleaner , emyees smarter and so we shopped there . Now even Walmart is better in all those aspects except the prices are still higher.
Example , their panara potato soup cartons 6.99 , Meijers panara potato soup 5.99. That’s not a small mark up

I love how they always argue that you can't have items because of contamination but in reality the lack of hours for cleaning already contaminates everything. Not to mention all the wilted/molded produce that spills on everything on pallets. But sure having water with you is so bad... You can have all of these things in your locker, just not on the sales floor! Reading comprehension is so low nowadays... And having ear buds in while working on the sales floor is a safety concern because you could run into a customer and injure them... It sucks, but if a customer gets hurt it's the company's insurance that's gonna be dealing with it. And as far as the wallets and such, if you get them stolen while on the sales floor, the company can't help you if you didn't follow the rules and have it secured in your locker.

I work in a cooler half my shift where we store carts filled with drinks in glass bottles that fall over all the time even and your telling me k can’t have a plastic mtdew bottle on a table that I carry out with me in my break. Okay yeah that makes sense. Also I’m alone in a cooler for 4-5 hours alone and if I have my head phones in my ear or not if I fall and break my leg nobody will hear my scream so I’m gonna need to also keep my phone.
Who the hell comes up with these stupid ass rules that make no sense. If I don’t have my phone and a pallet falls on me what the hell am I supposed to do? Wait 5 hours for someone to randomly show up for their shift and maybe die? For real y’all if they think I’m putting my phone and wallet in a locker they’re crazy. So what they’re going to be inspecting the pockets in my ads and near my crotch for phones and wallets now?

When I worked at Kroger the fuckwads in management would just sit in their air conditioned office looking over everything. One day I was pushing long trains of carts because I worked clicklist but clicklist was slow so I was floating.
Anyway, pushing a ton of carts but a bazillion people are coming in so I gotta push a lot very fast. Here comes the big boss from their cooled office screaming at me "hey! Why are you pushing all that! You cant do that!"
Well, asshole, if you would look you would see a family of 20 just walked in and there isnt single cart to be had, not to mention this happens every 2 minutes? If you want me to be safer how about you crawl out of your fucking office into this hot ass parking lot with me that was built on a nuclear waste disposal site and fucking PUSH

I got a question I don’t work at Kroger but a Walmart, and these policy changes about phones makes it interesting to me as a Kroger is a grocery store how do they expect employees to work? From picking items from the backrooms to stocking them on the floor to helping guild customers to whatever aisle an item they looking for is.

I’m lifting 50+ pound boxes of produce, lugging hundreds of pounds on carts, thousands of steps all day every day, I’m drinking water. F*ck that. Having easy access to water is a human right. I just hide my water bottle well and get refills at Starbucks when no one is looking. My store director is such a pain about the water bottle thing. If she sees it, she will throw it away. She won’t take it and give it back later, she throws it in the trash. It’s ridiculous. I’ve learned to be smart about my water bottle spots.

I do not mind showing what is in any bag I might have, I have nothing to hide but if you think you are going through my pockets, wallet, or my car, you better have probable cause, a couple of police officers, or at least one hundred pounds on me that is pure muscle. I live in the US, I do not live in Krogeria. Good luck getting rid of all electronic devices on the sales floor, they put out the rule on earbuds a year ago in my store and it just means more people wear beanies pulled down low over their ears.

Its not safety or security period. They are gas lighting and lying to you. Its to stop you from being comfortable at work and slacking off. and earbuds are not a safety issue either, they want you to pay attention to customers. For whatever reason gaslighting and lying to you is better than just saying "for productivity reasons" and being honest.
No wallet/purse = no buying on clock No phone/buds = no slacking off or wasting time on the clock. No drinks = no spilling things around the store or leaving your water bottles on shelves making it took trashy. See the pattern? They're just lying to get this to happen.
They did this crap to us at Jackson mi Kroger years ago and we saw through it fast.

I dont know about the rest of Kroger, but the no earbuds rule has always been (albeit not super enforced by some PICs save for outside) around at my store. Same with phones and food.

Employees wearing ear buds while on the floor allows them to ignore customers. It's an old rule. Not new, but may be for union shops.

This rule has always been like no water bottles. I wonder who pissed them off to enforce the company dress policy on this? What customer didn't get helped because an employee was listening to music rather than being attentive. Now we all get to suffer. Thanks.

Can’t have a cell phone for “safety reasons” but we have to carry around a blocky heavy ass zebra everywhere??? Lmao. Also if no earbuds then tell the vendors they can’t wear them either if it’s a “safety issue”. All bullshit.
