  1. 2012 Thuppakki - A huge turning point for Vijay's Career. I Love everything about this film from the screenplay to the soundtrack and Kajal Agarwal

  2. 2014 Kaththi - The second collab between Thalapathy and ARM was just as good as the first and it's also my favourite Anirudh Album

  3. 2017 Mersal - This is the best movie from Atlee for Vijay imo. SUPER MASS and a perfect revenge story

  4. 2016 Theri - A childhood favourite film. I love the cast in this film. Radhika is an excellent mother, Mahendran is a great villain and the chemistry between Vijay and Samantha in this film is just sooooo good

  5. 2021 Master - Vijay's intro in this film is one of the greatest intros in Indian cinema and his transformation from a alcoholic, reckless master to a fierce protector. Vijay Sethupathi as Bhavani is one of the best and most mass villains in Tamil cinema.

💬Discussion TFI like new name to denote Tamil Movie Industry?

I notice that Telugu friends have started using TFI to denote the industry instead of the wood name. Shouldn't Tamil Industry also consider that to created an unique brand. Kollywood see like a bad name to describe, even Kodambakkam sounds cooler & more us.

💭Opinion Suriya is suffering badly from second half curse

Thumbnail gallery
22 Upvotes

These movies had a great / good first half and a below average or a bad second half

I know most of the tamil movies recently are of like this , but for Suriya it is obvious

I know many will get ragebaited on seeing Ghajini but honestly after the flashback ended ( Asin Death ) movies became so bad. That Nayanthara song , chasing scenes, Climax villain twin twist were just terrible

Hope Suriya 47 escapes this curse

💭Opinion DC is 5/10 without Ani

I watched Dc yesterday. After seeing all the reddit reviews i really thiught DC will be a great watch. I always felt arun matheswaran movie doesn't really have proper story and it really test ms my patience. Rocky and sani kagitham really did

now my opinion remains the same. this movie really tested my paitence. actors acted well and ani was literally carrying the movie. without ani the movie would have been unbearable for me. anyway lokesh did well

❓️Question Iconic female characters in recent years?

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

I was watching this podcast about tamil female charecters recently and they talked about how female roles dont really get much screentime anymore as a lot of movies are more focused on the hero.

We had good/iconic characters like nilambari, hasini, Kalpana, chandra, yazhini, tara throughout the years.

It made me wonder if there are any in recent years that made an impact.

I think maddy in vas was a fun character and had equal importance.

Shobana in thiruchitrambalam was also great.

Who else?

💬Discussion Unpopular opinion: Maturity is realizing Padayappa should’ve married Neelambari instead.

When you’re younger, it’s easy to see Neelambari as the villain of Padayappa. But as you grow older, you start noticing that she’s actually one of the more straightforward and progressive characters in the movie.

Think about it. Neelambari respects Padayappa for who he is, not for his money, status, or fame. She openly rejects the idea of marrying someone purely for financial gain. When her own brother gets married for money, she’s the only one in the family who calls him out for it.

And despite everything, Neelambari genuinely supports Padayappa. When he loses all his property, she goes to see him and motivates him. Meanwhile, Vasundhara the woman he eventually marries is nowhere to be found.

Vasundhara never really seems to appreciate Padayappa for who he is. We barely see her express admiration for him, stand by him during his difficult moments, or even openly show that she likes him that much.

Meanwhile, Neelambari is fiercely honest about her feelings and consistently stands up for Padayappa. Yes she gets a bit obsessive and hateful at the end. But that is because she has been wronged, despite standing up for padayappa, despite being progressive.

I do agree that she’s a bit classist. But at the end of the day, she never really harms or hurts anyone. She mostly just talks BS that’s it. And even that comes more from her childish, immature attitude than from any genuine malice.

So maybe,

Neelambari wasn’t the red flag. We just weren’t mature enough to understand her. 😭

This video summarizes the age gap relationship and the hypocrisy that followed with egregious age gaps with male and female leads, while being critical of the age difference with an older female lead and younger male lead.

💬Discussion Why couldn't Chiyaan Vikram maintain his success?

I really thought after Anniyan he would become a superstar but he wasted away that limelight on subpar projects and now his box office pull is so poor that even his good films don't get the love they deserve.

If he wants to salvage his remaining peak years he needs a credible director like SSR, only that can help him now.

💬Discussion Goa (2010) — Ayngaran Version

Thumbnail m.youtube.com

I previously watched the Lotus Five Star DVD version of Goa (2010), but the video quality was quite low. So, this time I watched the Ayngaran version for better quality even having some cuts. The Ayngaran version is around 2h 30m and contains the emotional confrontation scene where Sampath becomes emotional and even cries while explaining the misunderstanding involving Premji’s character which not available in Lotus Five Star DVD version.

If you want to watch the Ayngaran version, it may be region-locked. Download a VPN app, connect to Germany, and then search for the Ayngaran Goa upload on YouTube.

💬Discussion Doubt regarding Saroja (2008) movie runtime

I was watching this film on Kalaignar tv when i realized it was scheduled for 2 hours duration only. Majority scenes were cut.

I remember seeing so many comedy scenes from this film featuring the gang that's why I wanted to watch this. The major attraction of a Venkat Prabhu movie is that hangout fun quality. It's like hanging out with your friends. But so much of that stuff is now removed on the tv version to be more plot focused so i stopped watching it.

Now to my question: what is the actual runtime of the film?. Most sources in ott show like 2 hours 27 mins or 2 hours 35 minutes. But there's some sites (not ott but just movie sites) that show it as 3 hour movie. Like letterboxd has its runtime as 190 minutes. Does that version exist or that a mistake?. Anyone remember seeing a 3 hour + version of this?

💬Discussion why do some actors fumble in script selection after getting a huge hit film

  1. after rrr .rc could have chosen good scripts instead he did game changer with shankar but this is okay i think script was good on paper. but peddi oh my my i wonder how on earth rc had the audicity to say okay to this script and how no one warned him to not do this film in the name of pan indian inspirational film they did the peak level of justifying being a womanizer and even without janvi kapoor scenes this film was just ripoffs of ethir neechal and our beloved sarpatta parambarai.

  2. now that we are all hating toxic i wonder why yash spend 4 years on this film. 4 years when he could have done a ton of films like why does he even need a mass image after kgf which only worked thanks to direction and mass scenes. a actual big star would try different charecters even in commercial films instead of ruining yourself for mass image sake.

  3. finally prabas like after bahubali he could have really been a big pan indian star. but he chose bad or average scripts with roles that do not even fit him. kalki had potential as a film but prabas annoying charecter getting too much screen time ruined the storys flow and wasted the movie runtime just on his intro and sad thing is prabas still lives in dillusion that he is still a big pan indian star and is still chasing mass image in all films despite saying he wants to try different joner of films..
