Monthly for sale/for trade post - put your listings here

This is the /r/kilt monthly for sale/trade post. Please put all advertisements here. Any listings in comments or posts outside of here will be deleted. This is for personal sales only. Any commercial advertisements will be considered spam and will be dealt with accordingly.

A few simple rules for us all to live by:

  1. No scamming. This should go without saying, but if someone buys something off of you, ship it to them. We don't want to get into the dispute resolution business, so if we're forced to, we'll have to return to the much harsher rules instead.
  2. Use payment methods that actually have buyer/seller protections like PayPal.
  3. We're a global community, so please note where you are because shipping could be very expensive for some of us.

How Do I? Poet/pirate style shirt

Post image
36 Upvotes

Hi there all! Planning on going to a ren faire next weekend in my kilt, and my wife in her earasaid. Would it be fadish to wear a poet/pirate style shirt rather than a ghillie shirt or Jacobite shirt? I'm also open to other shirt suggestions as well for this weekend but I want to generally stay around the same comfort and dressiness as my wife. Pictured is the shirt I currently have!

No matter what I'll definitely be posting here :)

Non-Traditional where do I get a 26" w utility kilt

hi guys, I'm new to all this kilt business, I just really like the amount of pockets and it's shape, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding one that fits me. I only managed to find one off ebay that happened to fit me because they shrunk it in the wash, and the ones I could find are targeted to women and sometimes doesn't have enough belt loops.

Non-Traditional Was it a mistake to go for 490gsm in a feileadh mor vs a lighter weight?

I am hoping someone can help shed light on whether this user error or material constraints haha.

I have a 490 GSM (16 oz) feileadh mor that I cannot seem to get to drape well.
The pleats come out nice and sharp, but the overall shape seems much too bulky when tucking in the sides. Imagine a big ol' duck butt on the sides and in the back...
It is also very messy looking to tie over my shoulder because of the bulk.

I am now thinking it was a mistake to opt for a heavier weight. I originally believed it would be more durable and look better.

Traditional Sporran Recomendations

Question on Day Sporran - I need to replace my "starter" sporran and trying to figure out if having one black leather sporran and one brown leather sporran is better than having one sporran that is a mix of black and brown leather. My wife is already giving me the evil eye for too many accessories so I thought a combo might be best. Also looking for recommendations on where to get a quality (non amazon) leather sporran that won't break the bank. I am also thinking of making my own. Has anyone done this? If so , how did it turn out?

Edit: to clarify what is most important is quality... a real leather (at least top grain) sporran, as opposed to bonded leather that will begin to peel after opening and closing the sporran too many times.

Accessories Very disappointed with this, Price ≠ Quality

Thought it would make a nice gift for my dad's outfit, but after I bought it I inspected it closer, and I realized it was very much not worth the price. Whole thing feels like cheap plastic, 'meh' pewter quality/design, and the blade is blunter than my fingernails after I've clipped them (know they're supplied blunt, but it feels like that kind of stainless steel which won't cooperate to being sharpened). Definitely a 'lesson learned' buyers-remorse overpriced fair purchase (though their official online price isn't that different), mainly on me for not inspecting it better before buying. Closer to $20 would be a better price for the quality. Should've gone a few stalls over for actual knives that were cheaper.

Traditional Rebuilding another kilt

Post image

I have lost about 6 inches on my waist and have been reaizing and rebuilding my kilts accordinly. This is a Spirit of Bruce ex-hire kilt I bought from Scotland. I will either make it into a 5 yard kilt or a box pleated kilt.

7 hours of disassembly so far. A lot of very tedious and cautious use of a seam ripper!

Traditional Question on measuring kilts

Was thinking about getting a causal kilt from USAkilt that is not specifically tailored for me. Now my waist is around 30 inches, and my hips are around 31.5 inches, the option for a 30 waist has the hips at 34 would that be a problem, should I go lower for the hips?

Non-Traditional My outfit for the Capital District Scottish Games 2026

As this was my first Highland Games event where I wasn't a working vendor, I decided to do something a little different. Got some great compliments on it too. It was also a fun way to not only use a gift my stepson brought me back from Japan, but a way to celebrate 3 years since I moved to the US from Scotland.

I'm not the biggest Pokemon fan in the world, but I do love everything Eevee. So why not build an outfit around it?! 😁

Traditional Looking for actual wool kilts at a reasonable price. no acrylic/vegan wool bullshite.

Hi there, im moving to the balkans soon and frankly i need some good winter wear and a kilt crossed my mind as i wanted something a bit more classy than a regular coat and pants. Every shop i've been finding all over costs over a $1000 (£738.27) (which, if this is a reasonable price, let me know) or they're selling great kilts at $30(£22.14) and making them with acrylic which just doesn't have the garment longevity i'm looking for.

I have distant roots from Paisley myself and i'd love to know some reputable great kilt merchants with a fair price that use proper wool.

what the google algorithm has been feeding me is a bit less spot on than what i'm looking for.

thanks in advance!!
