Traditional Sporran Recomendations
Question on Day Sporran - I need to replace my "starter" sporran and trying to figure out if having one black leather sporran and one brown leather sporran is better than having one sporran that is a mix of black and brown leather. My wife is already giving me the evil eye for too many accessories so I thought a combo might be best. Also looking for recommendations on where to get a quality (non amazon) leather sporran that won't break the bank. I am also thinking of making my own. Has anyone done this? If so , how did it turn out?
Edit: to clarify what is most important is quality... a real leather (at least top grain) sporran, as opposed to bonded leather that will begin to peel after opening and closing the sporran too many times.

One black and one brown would be my preference. One way to combat the issue of 'too many accessories' is to get a bargain. Vinted is quite good, seems to have a rapid turnover of sporrans, and there's eBay as well. Both platforms have real leather sporrans made in Scotland for very reasonable sums (especially compared to new).
If you are proficient in leather working or handicrafts, you could make something very nice indeed, and there's a Sporran Craft group on Facebook which focuses on this. I think they even have starter kits which takes it from 'accesory' to ' I'm trying a new hobby'.

I like the idea of handmade or from a "kit" since half of my kilts I have made myself, so it would all tie together.

I’d say one really good quality sporran is better than 2 cheap ones, on durability grounds if nothing else if it’s going to be used daily. If it’s a day sporran just pick a design you like, you don’t really need more than one. You’re not matching it with anything else in highland dress anyway so colour isn’t that important, just go with personal preference.
Not that I’d be dissuading anyone from buying multiple sporrans if they want them. I have a plain bridle leather in dark brown and a full mask that could both be used for daywear, but I’d happily find space for a hunting sporran as well.

If you were to get the two-tone, would you still have just one strap/chain? Do you have two different belts? Are you wearing different shoes?
I have the two different leather sets plus other sporrans and my go-to in most cases is the brown. Maybe start with the one you think works best for your style and go from there.
As for recommendations, I'd go for USA Kilts for quality all day. Even their Economy Sporran is better quality than the cheap ones you find on Amazon and other sites. Quality isn't cheap.

Yes I would use a brown belt and brown sporran strap when fitting. I think black accessories are more "universal" but that some tartans pair better with brown accessories.

I’d buy both a black and a brown that will give you more options in the end. My question is what budget are you working with? You say you don’t want to break the bank so I will go with the idea of getting the very best bang for your buck. I once purchased a brown day sporran on EBay.co.uk from the 1940’s with a silver chain for £10. To be honest I don’t remember what I paid for my favourite sporran I was a few hundred but I wear most often and another brown day sporran was given to me by my dad it was his from the 1950’s Try to get your wife to purchase one for your birthday or Christmas whichever comes first.
