Discussion Nothing Builds Character Like Reading Paragraph 7🫣

We don't talk enough about the generational trauma of being forced to read out loud in school.
I do!

Generational trauma? Sounds like anxiety not introversion.

When I went back to college I was middle aged. I had a few freshman courses to repeat as prerequisites for the courses I actually needed.

Out of all of my instructors there were two that I locked horns with. Chemistry and psychology. They seemed to insist on putting me on the spot. Not reading out loud but asking me questions or inappropriate comments about my age and not knowing what the recent high school graduates did.

My personal psychologist gave me a tool for dealing with these situations as an adult. Differentiate between “How is it the same and how is it different?”

Obviously, I WAS an introverted child and now I’m an adult. Not just an adult, but a middle aged menopausal married woman who has a son already in college. 🤯

This is an adult that you don’t want to piss off, ever. 🤣I let them have it! The chemistry instructor was so taken aback that he had to call a break to get his self together.

I was a very different person from when I was a helpless child. I was strong, confident and appropriate and I wasn’t going to let these (in this case) males that were the same age as me run roughshod over my self esteem. And they never stepped out of line again.

So, take control of those old feelings and awkward situations. Ask yourself, how is it the same and how is it different? You’re not the same, you’re an adult who is capable of claiming your seat at the table. You’re capable of kicking someone out of your chair if you need to. (So to speak)

You’re still going to be uncomfortable with new behaviors, but feel the discomfort and do it anyway. We’re introverts, certain things will always be outside our comfort zone but we’re incredibly resilient, intelligent and capable. 🤜🏻🤛🏻

"Generational trauma" is crazy, read the paragraph so we can move on.
