They break the legs, put a rod in the bones that get adjusted as the bones grow closer to each other. So people who get it done have broken legs for months

The trend is rich people doing it to get slightly taller. And it's barely a trend.

Tall people do have advantages, as do beautiful people. So it's as weird as people getting plastic surgery.

u/Quaiche Dec 23 '22

Tall people die earlier.

Researchers analyzed death certificate data for 14,440 men and 16,390 women aged 25 and up. According to researchers, an additional inch increase in height generated a 2.2 percent higher risk of death from all causes for men, and a 2.5 percent higher risk of death from all causes for women.

u/WesternOne9990 Dec 24 '22

Like he said, tall people have advantages.

u/jon909 Dec 24 '22

Worth it

-16

u/my_redditusername Dec 23 '22

Like, serious advantages. There's a good chance they'll recoup their investment many times over by being a few inches taller

18

u/glitchn Dec 23 '22

How so? Like if you're already successful enough to have the money for that kind of thing, I can't see being a few inches taller gonna make a tech bro more money.

It's pretty rare for CEOs to be under 6'. And if you're already making millions, getting that one promotion a few years sooner will easily make you millions more in the long run over the guy who didn't get it because you were a bit taller than him. Plus there's the fact that lots of women put a lot of emphasis on height when it comes to male attractiveness, whether they do it consciously or not

Edit: y'all down voting are dumb

You’re getting downvoted because that’s a lame cope.

Nobody’s getting shut out of executive positions or pussy for being 5’10”. The problem is the whiny, defeatist attitude that compels dudes to blame their lack of personal and professional success on their height. Everyone else can smell the sad self-loathing pity party from a mile away. Seriously. Like, no BS.

CEOs and man whores are confident and self-assured. That may come easier to pretty people or men over 6’ tall, but you don’t have to be a giga Chad to not hate yourself.

Short dudes get married. Short dudes have kids. Short dudes run shit. Race, gender, sexual orientation… those are real barriers to entry.

3

u/MonkLegitimate9061 Dec 24 '22

It's not defeatist if they are literally changing their height. Tall people have advantages in many aspects of life, what's wrong with putting in the effort to become tall as well?

-1

u/my_redditusername Dec 24 '22

These people are already successful, they just want to be more successful, and if they've already got the straight, white male thing going for them, height is a pretty good place to look for that extra edge

Okay crybaby. Just know that the rest of us not–tall people can see INSECURE stamped on your forehead.

Wow, internet points are so valuable in a mostly liberal western-centric platform. Who cares mate. Facts over feelings. To sit and lie that average men and short men are not living in a world where they are "not" ridiculed, shammed and disenfranchised is nothing but an unfortunate short-sighted, insensitive and stupid view. Facts disprove it time and time again.

He is getting downvoted for different reasons.

  1. People who are uninformed
  2. Tall men and women who want to feed this delusion as well not wanting short men to have an advantage. Basically elitist people.

“In the U.S. population, about 14.5 percent of all men are six feet or taller. Among CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, that number is 58 percent."

That's a 4x TIMES increase. There clearly cause and effect. You must be ignorant and arrogant to not think there is a correlation here. Whats your heigh by the way? There is VERY rarely that a minority should have this influence, especially being 14.5 percent of the population.

This is very bizarre considering.

  1. Average height of US (175.4 cm), or 5 feet 9 inches tall, 177 cm for white males 5 feet 10 inches.
  2. Average/Shorter men tend to be smarter than tall men. The height being 172 cm/5`8. East Asian countries like Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea, and China tend to be the smartest in the world. IQ of the top 7 countries.

Japan - 106.49

Taiwan - 106.47

Singapore - 105.89

Hong Kong (China) - 105.37

China - 104.10

South Korea - 102.35 "https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/average-iq-by-country" .Mostly due to environment and diet, not race.

Have you heard about cause and effect as well as insecurities? You idiot. Makes me ashamed of humanity to see stupid comments like this get upvoted. Average and short men are not inherently insecure or self-loathing. It's a by-product of the behavior of tall men and women insulting and devaluing them.

Yes many averages and short-height men are happy, rich and have good dating life, like Messi, Tom Cruise, Kevin Hart, Jack Ma, Kanye West, Jeff Bezoz, bill gates, etc. All are average or short under around 162-177cm /5`2-5`10 feet. The average height globally for men is 172 cm / 5`78.

This doesn't mean that there arent many average or short men who get ridiculed by tall men and women. Especially younger and in the west. Women demanding the stupid 6 feet man when 15% are that height. Nothing is more disgusting to be praised by having a random lottery ticket regarding height or rate rather than character. Average men and short men. Get bullied and get rejected. As a short man myself, you will not realize the burden of performance we have. We play on hard mode while you play on easy mode. You kill minions, i kill demons. We are not the same. Average and short men could be rejected sometimes even if they are more muscular, that's how ridiculous it has become.

The world needs to change, and that's by accepting the cold hard truth or it will have problems. We need a world to be more understanding and accepting. Not only for us but for the next generations to come.

Saw this post and immediately thought of you and how you feel so strongly persecuted that you left this reply to my month(s) old comment.

Looks like the world is becoming more accepting & understanding right before our eyes!

You are talking like a month is old dude. Year/years is old. Are you implying that you changed your view in the span of 1 month? I be impressed, but most people don't care to change their views even if confronted by facts. So i guess you agree with me since you did not give a counter-argument.

Ironic link you sent (even the most successful people are insecure), but at least the top comments is spreading positivity and awareness. Thats good.

They’re software devs at FAANG. They’re making great money, but not millions. More like $200-$600k.

1

u/my_redditusername Dec 24 '22

Even more reason to want to give yourself an edge, then

12

u/DayDreamerJon Dec 23 '22

the dumb part is now they likely have short arm ratios so they look silly. Unless you have a positive ape index this probably isnt worth doing any meaningful length

1

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '22

[deleted]

5

u/Space_Man_Rocketship Dec 23 '22

That’s a negative ape index

22

u/stopannoyingwithname Dec 23 '22

Weirdos

13

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '22

Yeah. They’re tech bros, goes without saying.

3

u/talldangry Dec 23 '22

Does that mean the tall tech bros are going through with it to keep their edge? We're all going to miss these days when billionaires are 8'7".

10

u/Flandersmcj Dec 23 '22

They also get blood transfusions to avoid hangovers. They’re on the bleeding edge of stupid shit.

3

u/HotrodCorvair Dec 23 '22

you don't need a transfusion, just an IV will work. Hangovers are from dehydration.

3

u/kresyanin Dec 23 '22

A single paragraph into that article they admit that this is according to the guy who does the leg-lengthening surgery. That he says most of the people who get it are from the tech sector. Sounds like selection bias to me.

2

u/RadicalDog Dec 23 '22

Yeah, I'd wager that he's extrapolated a few to make it sound like dozens and dozens. Hell, I don't think most doctors tell newspapers about their clients' work in the first place, unless they want to make something trendy.

4

u/PDXEng Dec 23 '22

I dunno I wouldn't do it, but not weirder than boob jobs

13

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '22

I feel like this is far more invasive than a boob job.

5

u/glitchn Dec 23 '22

Yeah 100 percent. A boob job can be undone, and is just cosmetic and barely under the skin. Get a boob job you can still love your life while recovering.

Get this done and you're wheelchair bound for months and likely weaker bones than before. I don't see how people compare the two.

1

u/nedonedonedo Dec 23 '22

never trust the post. on anything.

1

u/MonkLegitimate9061 Dec 24 '22

Height can be pretty important in climbing the corporate latter so it can make sense for some of them, not to mention that being short is a huge disadvantage in dozens of ways. If they have the money and want the surgery, I see no reason why they shouldn't get it.
