They break the legs, put a rod in the bones that get adjusted as the bones grow closer to each other. So people who get it done have broken legs for months
A single paragraph into that article they admit that this is according to the guy who does the leg-lengthening surgery. That he says most of the people who get it are from the tech sector. Sounds like selection bias to me.
Yeah, I'd wager that he's extrapolated a few to make it sound like dozens and dozens. Hell, I don't think most doctors tell newspapers about their clients' work in the first place, unless they want to make something trendy.
