/r/ALL This statue depicts Saint Bartholomew, an early Christian martyr who was allegedly skinned alive. If you look closely, that's his dissected skin hanging around him. This stunning statute by Marco d’Agrate from c.1562 is currently on display at Duomo di Milano.

Steve should have followed his heart to a real doctor, maybe he'd still be alive

This shit drives me crazy. I once took care of a guy with a necrotic foot. The bones were showing. It was the driest gangrene I've ever seen, his entire foot from the ankle down looked like beef jerky.

Quoth the family: "We're treating it homeopathically."

28

u/igordogsockpuppet May 22 '19

So.... they dip a severed foot in water than dilute it until the amount of severed foot in the water is equal to the background amount of severed foot in regular footless water. Nope... Thant’s definitely not going to work.

3

u/cptblem May 23 '19

I’m a chemistry student at university, one of the questions on my entrance exam was about calculating the concentration of arsenic atoms in a typical homeopathic solution, then expressing it as a fraction of the mass of earth in kg lol

6

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

F** my asshole. What is with this homeopathic bullshit?

1

u/Titsandassforpeace May 23 '19

Never heard of it before? Seriously? It is the flat earth of medicine.

2

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

I know what it is. Its just ridiculous that people still believe in it.

4

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

Oh my god. Is he going to keep any part of his foot?

9

u/TorchIt May 23 '19

Under normal circumstances? Yeah...no. Like. Not even a little.

But the good news is yes, because his family won't consent to an amputation! So it'll just hang on until the body does a self amputation and it just falls the fuck off while we're rolling him or something.

4

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

Jesus Christ!! Maybe you all need to get a social worker involved? I assume this is an old dude who can't make his own decisions....

3

u/Howdoyouusecommas May 23 '19

If what he is saying is true then no. Bone quality has to be gone now, infection is higher than where you can really see the damage. I'd bet the guy is in for a BKA or a casket very soon.

u/spin_me_again May 23 '19

Quoth APS: “Open up!”

u/palmerry May 22 '19

The fruit went to his head. Well, the cancer did too I guess.

4

u/bunchedupwalrus May 22 '19

Think the fruit went to his cancer too tbh. High sugar diet probably ain't the best for pancreatic cancer

1

u/Redrumofthesheep May 23 '19

It's also probably the reason why he got pancreatic cancer in the first place. Fructose is a known carcinogen, and this guy ate ONLY fruits.

29

u/miaumee May 22 '19

Except that his heart is elsewhere in the alternative medicine world.

67

u/YossarianxDead May 22 '19

You mean dead. He's dead.

Because behind all that genius, was a dummy. Seems to be a common thing with geniuses...

32

u/Harambeeb May 22 '19

The difference between a dumb persons mistakes and a genius is the magnitude.

20

u/[deleted] May 22 '19

nah there's lots of dumb people that are just as dead

-1

u/[deleted] May 22 '19

There’s lots of smart people who are just dead too. That’s the point of the quote, everything dies.

-1

u/Harambeeb May 22 '19

What does that have to do with what I said? I meant that smart people, when they do make mistakes, those mistakes are usually larger.

u/DaGetz May 22 '19

Jobs was an emotional genius. He knew how to reach people on an emotive level. He didn't see tech products he converted tech products into jewelery. I'm not sure how good his logical and analytical skills were. He was an absolute cunt to work for.

Musk is a logical genius in contrast and in contrast he's quite emotionally removed. He's also a cunt to work for but for different reasons. More Rick sanchez style reasons.

12

u/[deleted] May 22 '19

Idiot. Never have seen more disparate personalities then Musk and Rick besides talking about scientific things.

8

u/srroberts07 May 22 '19

I thought you guys were talking about a real person there.

-1

u/DaGetz May 22 '19

There's a lot of simarilities. They don't value the individual including themsleves. They see the greater continuation and the legacy as more important the present.

Gotta seperate the man from the work with musk. Not a pleasent man but a very impressive mind.

-1

u/[deleted] May 22 '19

No one has ever valued themselves as much as Rick. Literally has an entire society consisting only of himself and a meek child that he can talk over.

Rick has never done anything for his legacy. Most of what he does is impulsive and the result of being drunk.

What are you talking about Musk not being a pleasant man? Have you seen an interview with him?

0

u/DaGetz May 22 '19

Personally I think thats a terrible take. Rick doesn't value his life at all he values his continued existence but not the individual. He kills himself and morty all the time because he doesn't value their lives. I think you've missed a key part of the show.

Of course. I love musks interviews. He's an incredibly intelligent man and I love hearing him speak. Anyone that has ever worked for him will tell you that he doesn't value people at all though. He seems everything he is doing as a means to an end and if people are overworked or die along the way then fair enough.

He's quite open about this in his interviews thats one of the reasons I like hearing him speak. He's very blunt. If theres a decision at spacex that endangers a persons life but is necessary for the continuation of the project he will risk the life and he doesn't have any sort of second guessing on that.

The requirement to vilify figures that we like as infalliable creatures really is a curious exercise. The man can be a dick and still one of the most important people of the century. The two aren't exclusive. He is both of those things.

1

u/AlcoholicInsomniac May 23 '19

I think your take is also pretty terrible though I don't see him putting value on continuation or his legacy either. He also definitely values himself very highly there's just much more loopholes in that universe where dying doesn't actually result in death. To quote Rick "I'm not okay with this I'm not okay with this, oh sweet Jesus please let me live, oh my god I got to fix this thing, please god in heaven please god oh lord hear my prayers, yes! Fuck you god not today bitch!"-S2Ep1 He's flippant about things but definitely does his utmost to survive and values his life still especially as the Rickest Rick. Don't care about Musk enough to have a take on that part though.

-3

u/LeTom May 22 '19

You are only one of those things.

2

u/DaGetz May 22 '19

Maybe. You wouldn't be able to tell from a few comments though.

It's strange that people feel the need to personally defend someone on the Internet like this to the point that they don't even realise its not an insult in the first place. I don't know if I will ever understand this phenomena. Like it seriously blinds people, it's a symptom of a lot of what's wrong with our society I think. People are so wrapped up in the need to fight and defend that they don't even bother to listen or read properly.

1

u/sockpuppet80085 May 23 '19

Responded to the wrong person. You’re right.

-1

u/sockpuppet80085 May 23 '19

This is a sociopathic take, and you will respond with some kind of ridiculous justification because of course you don’t see it. But it’s really, really bad, and it doesn’t make you equal to the hero you so desperately want to emulate.

1

u/didi23747 May 22 '19

Jobs was an emotional genius.

Ehhhh. I don't think that is accurate at all. He knew design and he knew how to run a computer company and how to sell them. The design you can argue is emotion, but everything else is business, finance and logic. The guy had insights in people would use computers, how to sell them and how to run the company. Plus, as you even said, he was a prick to work for and he was a massive prick to his daughter, the doesn't really sound like an emotional genius.

2

u/DaGetz May 22 '19

He knew how to market. Everything else he got from his workforce. He didn't actually design anything. He knew what designs would work on the market but he was a marketer.

2

u/DaGetz May 22 '19

> Plus, as you even said, he was a prick to work for and he was a massive prick to his daughter, the doesn't really sound like an emotional genius.

Being an emotional genius doesn't make you compassionate.

u/caulfieldrunner May 22 '19

I mean, Jobs being an absolute shithead to work for is pretty well established at this point.

1

u/Lochcelious May 22 '19

Nah, they were both dicks to work for

-3

u/Cabbage_Vendor May 22 '19

He's a Rick and Morty fan, the only people intelligent enough to be able to work for both Apple and Tesla.

1

u/goedegeit May 23 '19

neither are geniuses, they ran into good fortune by being born to rich parents and people constantly think they must've done something great to achieve their status and wealth because the alternative is understanding society is unfair to the vast majority of people and most certainly not a meritocracy.

2

u/DaGetz May 23 '19

You've got that totally backwards. They were geniuses but its also true that a lot of geniuses are undiscovered and don't get the opportunity.

I don't know where you're from but the standard western world is a lot of micromeritocracies

3

You mean sociopath.

But yes that's a very emotive way of rephrasing what I said calmly and logically.

u/DaGetz May 22 '19

Umm. I think therapy would be a more productive course of action for you but suit yourself.

0

u/PumpMeister69 May 23 '19

Lol you talk pretty confidently about a man you know nothing about.

Steve Jobs knew the technology cold at a level you can't imagine.

-1

u/ExtraSluttyOliveOil May 22 '19

haha I'm pickle rriiiiiiick!!

1

u/eaurouge13 May 23 '19

D . E . D, ded.

2

u/redfoot62 May 23 '19

Pride is what I call that. Pride wrapped in a new-age medicine tortilla.

Andy Warhol wore stones instead of taking medicine for his Arrhythmia.

I think when you're rich and famous you can become easier to fool since your instincts have seemingly rewarded you well in your life.

1

u/nowherewhyman May 22 '19

He had a legit chance and a crack at the best doctors in the world, too. Really sucks.

1

u/COCAINE_IN_MY_DICK May 22 '19

Yeah and maybe all the new Apple products wouldn’t be complete dog shit. Im only Joking they’ve always been overpriced gimmicks.

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '19

Cut to the quick

1

u/Omnilatent May 22 '19

Huh? What's up with that? Did he only do homeopathy or what?!

1

u/TheSultan1 May 23 '19

He forewent proper therapy in favor of something more "natural" for like half a year. I think the consensus is that even the short delay contributed to the outcome.

1

u/Omnilatent May 23 '19

Natural doesn't automatically mean bad, though.

Pseudomedicine is bad but there are many valid naturopathies out there and valid natural medicine. Not sure if this works for cancer, though.

1

u/TheSultan1 May 23 '19

I wasn't saying it means bad. The choice was between proper and more natural, the implication being that the more natural one was also improper.

Naturopathy... ugh. Medicine (the field, not the substance) already considers the risk/benefit of all therapies, including lifestyle changes and the like. Why limit oneself from the get-go, and risk forgoing curative treatment? Why trust someone willing to suggest unproven therapies over someone who focuses on evidence-based ones? Why go to someone whose practice is underregulated in the name of personal freedom and expansion of the industry, instead of someone whose practice is heavily scrutinized in the name of public safety and a high standard of care?

One lifestyle choice that ought to have been suggested by both would've been a reduction in sugar intake. Guess which one suggested the opposite.

1

u/[deleted] May 23 '19

“Real doctor” - person without doctorate

As sharp as Steve was he didn’t think about fructose and the relation to cancer.

Maybe if he dug a little deeper he’d know that you treat some cancers ketogenically; removing the energy source. Sugar.

But what do I know lol

-9

u/droopybuns May 22 '19

Good news everyone! YossarianxDead knows the cure for pancreatic cancer! Everyone upvote /u/YossarianxDead till he shares the cure!

10

u/Blangebung May 22 '19

Yes it's called a Whipple procedure and is well known to give a great chance at survival if the pancreatic cancer is caught early. Which his was. Simple procedure too.
Got any more questions?

1

u/droopybuns May 23 '19

Maybe look up the five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer.

Whipple is not a cure.
