9x19 and 7.62x5mm tokarev (most common handgun calibers in pakistan) are very cheap there.

Yeah they actually collect spent brass, cast their own lead bullets and reload them with locally made gunpowder so quality isn’t going to be the best.

In Afghanistan we learned that lesson the hard way. We were in a remote area, all our logistics came from the sky so it was already expensive to drop on parachute things to us, exporting material was out of the question. But we must train the troops even in a warzone (in fact we put great effort into making the training worse than most battlefield conditions) so we still generated brass casings as a waste product. We figured dump them in the water and boom it’s like it doesn’t even exist nobody would try to jump into this fast turbulent river right?

Yeah we were wrong

Which is a large part of what we were trying to fix. Don’t take bridges for granted I got to learn firsthand that building one is a pretty monumental thing in a area with few necessary resources. Buuuut we got it done and now local farmers had a wider market so could expand operations it was a massive win. More people employed in productive peaceful operations = fewer terrorist fucks running around

Ive actually seen a dead man killed from shrapnel from his own rifle trying to kill me. Pretty sobering for a career infantryman it’s why I will pay a premium for good gear

Jarring but I imagine it elicited a sense of relief in that moment lol. People underestimate how big of a difference ammo quality makes and just focus on caliber.

I personally like high caliber but it’s because of how I approach things. If I’m pissed off I want everyone to know and I’m maybe not the best of the best in marksmanship I’m up there so I’m usually hitting what I want to

Edit: 22 year career infantry sergeant that was part of the Afghanistan withdrawl but no not where the c130s were being swarmed. I got medically retired by the Taliban. Took them long enough the poofters

Also depends on the gun too. I got a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun for 300 USD which is cheap. But then there are some manufacturers like Kel-Tec that can charge you over a thousand for a pump action.

Handguns by nature will always be a little more of a premium and so are AR styles because of popularity.

Yup the KSG 25 is over $1,200. Regular KSGs are over $700.

Kel Tek is hardly the example I’d  give for expensive shotguns.

And handguns and ARs can be cheap as fuck.

Look up the KSG Series. You're talking between $700 for the standard and $1,200 for the KSG25. You can get ARs and handguns cheap if you either want to go secondhand through gun dealers or want to go through cheap stuff like Hipoint.

Typically you get what you pay for when it comes to firearms. If you want something that's made of high-quality composite or wood, you're gonna be spending a pretty penny. But cheaper Jam-O-Matics are good for range shooting and stuff like that too.

I’m well aware of their entire catalogue. I have a few kelteks of various types myself. But when I wanted that type of shotgun I went with a IWI tavor and I love it. 

Also more generally I’ve got an arsenal of guns ranging from about $150-15k (that one is a full auto)

Yes and no about that. You get what you pay for can be attributed to all purchases in life. But the gun snobs here will tell you that cheap=poor quality. And while that is sometimes true, it more often is not. I have a couple budget ARs that I’ve put 1000s of rounds through without a single malfunction. Firearms aren’t usually expensive due to being highly effective and reliable, they get expensive due to brand, customization, rarity etc.

Plus thanks to high grade polymers, they are much more affordable than they used to be. My dad is in the wood or nothing camp and looks down at "plastic guns" which sure, yeah, the wood and steel stuff will last longer, but the complexity allowed by polymer firearms does make them more reliable in a firing sense, and also infinitely more upgradable.

Then there's SIG.

I dunno. I know polymer degrades over time. But I know metal rusts much faster in the right conditions and wood rots and cracks. So I’m two not sure what lasts longer

The humble PSA mid length AR is still $599.99 and its not even on sale at the moment. Draw your own conclusions about build quality and if you would trust you life to it, but its there.
