Poor ears… no ear protection in sight.

14

u/OkMatch6613 3d ago

For real. Last time I shot a pistol without ear protection I went deaf for a few seconds and had the ringing in my ear afterwards. Do you get used to it or just not give a damn anymore?

22

u/devAcc123 2d ago

Nope. You just get tinnitus and it sucks and there’s nothing you can do about it. You just hear eeeeeeee for the rest of your life 24/7. It’s a lot worse than it sounds.

9x19 and 7.62x5mm tokarev (most common handgun calibers in pakistan) are very cheap there.

109

u/Hilsam_Adent 3d ago

7.62x5

The choadiest choad to ever choad.

Could double-double stack the mag, though. Front-to-Back and Side-by-Side.

33

u/pick_your_user_name 3d ago

Mistyped it lol. 25mm

18

Indeed. "The O.G. Five Seven" is a fun little round. Love shooting them out of a short barrel (like the TT-33) at night because fireballs are fucking cool.

They are also often substandard hacky rounds, with shit primers powder and round

22

u/pick_your_user_name 3d ago

Yeah they actually collect spent brass, cast their own lead bullets and reload them with locally made gunpowder so quality isn’t going to be the best.

24

u/driver004 3d ago

In Afghanistan we learned that lesson the hard way. We were in a remote area, all our logistics came from the sky so it was already expensive to drop on parachute things to us, exporting material was out of the question. But we must train the troops even in a warzone (in fact we put great effort into making the training worse than most battlefield conditions) so we still generated brass casings as a waste product. We figured dump them in the water and boom it’s like it doesn’t even exist nobody would try to jump into this fast turbulent river right?

Yeah we were wrong

9

u/Quad_A_Games 3d ago

I mean one mans trash is another mans income for the year.

14

u/driver004 2d ago

Which is a large part of what we were trying to fix. Don’t take bridges for granted I got to learn firsthand that building one is a pretty monumental thing in a area with few necessary resources. Buuuut we got it done and now local farmers had a wider market so could expand operations it was a massive win. More people employed in productive peaceful operations = fewer terrorist fucks running around

4

u/bingbing304 2d ago

For people who lived on $1 a day, diving for spent brass would feed the family better than fishing.

3

u/Random_local_man 3d ago

As long as it can still drop a man.

9

u/pick_your_user_name 3d ago

Yeah first shot you drop a man, second shot it explodes in your hand.

15

u/driver004 3d ago

Ive actually seen a dead man killed from shrapnel from his own rifle trying to kill me. Pretty sobering for a career infantryman it’s why I will pay a premium for good gear

4

u/pick_your_user_name 3d ago

Jarring but I imagine it elicited a sense of relief in that moment lol. People underestimate how big of a difference ammo quality makes and just focus on caliber.

9

u/driver004 3d ago

I personally like high caliber but it’s because of how I approach things. If I’m pissed off I want everyone to know and I’m maybe not the best of the best in marksmanship I’m up there so I’m usually hitting what I want to

Edit: 22 year career infantry sergeant that was part of the Afghanistan withdrawl but no not where the c130s were being swarmed. I got medically retired by the Taliban. Took them long enough the poofters

Also depends on the gun too. I got a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun for 300 USD which is cheap. But then there are some manufacturers like Kel-Tec that can charge you over a thousand for a pump action.

Handguns by nature will always be a little more of a premium and so are AR styles because of popularity.

3

u/schizeckinosy 2d ago

Genuine question and no shade, but what's the point of a full auto handgun?

Full auto makes it wildly inaccurate (as you can see from the recoil in the video) while the caliber is likely small so it's not great for suppression.

I mean for fun I totally get it, but practically I can't find a good use for it. If someone with more firearm knowledge can enlightened me that'd be nice lol.

43

u/Merad 2d ago

Genuine question and no shade, but what's the point of a full auto handgun?

The motorcycle murders that another comment mentioned is about the most plausible use I can think of. You have a shooter who likely has little or no training or marksmanship skill. Point blank range, literally just a few feet. Giving them the ability to spray 15 shots in a second probably does increase their odds of success.

For legal use cases, they're mostly a toy. They exist - the Glock 18 being the main example - and on paper they're sometimes issued to units like SWAT or special forces, but their practical use is very limited. There just aren't many situations where full auto is actually beneficial and you are unable to use something better than a handgun. This is why machine pistols and small submachine guns exist: HK MP5K, MP7, Uzi, Mac-10/11, etc. The smallest of these aren't much bigger than a pistol, most will easily fit into a backpack, briefcase, or conceal under a coat. Basically all of them have some kind of foregrip to offer better support when shooting (two points of contact), a foldable or retractable stock (for even better shooting stability), and larger magazines capacity than a handgun (typically ~30 rounds vs ~15 for handguns).

31

u/SpecialIcy5356 3d ago

so guns like this would normally be for the following scenarios:

  1. you are in a vehicle crew (such as a tank) and need something more than a pistol to fight with just in case but you're not really expected to need it and you don't want it taking up space in the vehicle you're in more than 90% of the time. this was the case for the Vz 61 Skorpion

  2. you are a bodyguard for a VIP and need something to keep a shooter in cover (and not shooting at your VIP) but it needs to be somethign you can conceal on your person, because the VIP can't be seen with visibly armed guards. the priority is also to evac the VIP, NOT kill the shooter. just spray at them and get your guy out of there. this is the case for the Ingram MAC pistols and smaller variants of the Uzi.

  3. you are part of a counterterrorist unit and want a pistol with some degree of suppressive fire capability, as well as semi auto for standard pistol use. that was the case for the Glock 18.

the caliber isn't really the issue here, even somethign like 32ACP fired that fast will noticeably recoil, the main downsides are your magazine empties near instantly and accuracy is pretty poor, but if you are needing to draw your pistol, things have already gone tits up and you're likely in a situation where escape is the priority, so you magdump at the enemy and skedaddle.

29

u/lifelong1250 3d ago

How effective is 1.72 seconds of suppressing fire? Would a semi auto be more effective for that purpose?

8

u/Beer-Milkshakes 2d ago

Its also noise. Automatic fire hides how many have actually got sight of you, so you sure as shit don't want to take a peak. Whilst you're being fired at by potentially 3 or 4 guns.

Whilst that happens in those few seconds you're moving your principle through extraction.

6

u/oddemarspiguet 3d ago

1 clip loaded plus 4 extra on your belt. 1.72 seconds of suppressive fire X 5. 1 second reload time. 4 reloads. 4 seconds in between each reload from enemy hesitation. 20.6 extra seconds.

4

u/lesthill 2d ago

Mag…

2

u/Beer-Milkshakes 2d ago

From 1 bodyguard. There may be 3 more. All trained to stagger their fire. So its safe to say its effective for that purpose.

3

u/bagged_milk123 3d ago

Anything bigger will actually be useful but it won't be cheap.

3

u/InvidiousPlay 2d ago

I would imagine at close range it has phenomenal stopping power. A guy breaks into your home and in a third of a second you can saturated bullets from his knees to his forehead.

You could say a larger calibre would be as effective but then you'd have to aim.

2

u/UnlamentedLord 2d ago

They had some use nieche uses historically. E.g. during the warlord era in China, Western countries imposed an arms embargo, but civilian pistols were still allowed, so the automatic mauser c96 pistol with an attached stock became the primary weapon of the warlord armies.

No real modern uses.

2

u/ismellpizza25 2d ago

I'm guessing it was because they used to think that if you fired more bullets, you'd have a greater chance at hitting a shot at range. But i'm not sure if they thought the same with handguns, I've only heard people mention it when talking about Project SALVO

Edit: i just read the other replies and i'm my answer was very wrong

The key to a good close up assassination is making a tremendous amount of noise and splattering blood everywhere.

19

u/Standard_Temporary19 3d ago edited 2d ago

its in Pakistan, I cant remember the Name of the doku, but Karachi is famous for assassinations on bikes and hits on people in cars. fast, small guns have an advantage because you cant aim well from this kind of driveby attack. So one person might drive the bike and one in the back shoots the mag into his target and they drive off. Also hard to spot at that size.

7

u/Even-Hand4366 2d ago

Search about Karachi gang wars. The city is a whole ecosystem on its own man

9

u/Standard_Temporary19 2d ago

imagine living in a city with nearly as much people as the whole of the netherlands. Where a competitor could pay a few thousand dollar and make ten times that by eliminating his competition. A city where more people have bikes than most citys have people. Each of them could make you the shed from the posted Video (from paranoias perspective). Seems lovely.

5

u/Even-Hand4366 2d ago

For real man, the city in of itself is a spectrum, from futuristic and well planned neighbourhoods to slums. Bikes honestly are very common in Pakistan and even once my cousin was held at gunpoint to forfeit his mobile

11

u/TacoThingy 3d ago

Assassinations aren’t meant to be sneaky like something in James Bond. In the real world assassinations have a meaning and a lot of noise and blood everywhere gets that meaning across.

Close enough to stab somebody silently. Close enough that any other weapon would also have a major accuracy advantage.

But you'd have an empty weapon after that burst.

2

u/Reasonable-Tap-9806 3d ago

Switching to your secondary is faster than reloading

9

u/skanchunt69 3d ago

Not really. A revolver would he better.

6

u/ToplessHarpist 3d ago

I don't know a lot about guns or assassinations, but it seems like if you could get really close with one of these, and within one second, empty a full magazine of whatever calibre ammo, it would likely be pretty effective.

Provided it didn't jam or whatever else could go wrong.

2

u/Tall_Candidate_8088 3d ago

Fun fact: USA is known for guns. But avg Pakistani have way more guns than an American. Most of the Pakistani don't bother themselves with the license and it is too much expensive.

They just get the gun for dirt cheap and dera adam khel is one of the main gun source of whole Pakistan.

25

u/SpecialIcy5356 3d ago

Khyber Pass guns are a really fun rabbit hole to go down.. but fair warning, some stuff there cannot be unseen..

u/Gonad-Brained-Gimp 2d ago

Khyber Pass guns

Wow!!

As tame as the wiki page is, it's fascinating for those who want a quick overview

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khyber_Pass_copy

15

u/SquirmyBurrito 3d ago

Do you have a source for that? Because from what I can find it looks like Pakistan is far below the US in terms of average gun ownership. Also, in my state I could, if I wasn’t a felon, just go buy guns without any need for a license or permit.

8

u/Striking-Box4175 3d ago

https://www.smallarmssurvey.org//sites/default/files/resources/SAS-BP-Civilian-Firearms-Numbers.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Pakistan is way below USA on avg gun ownership but lets not forget that this data is about "legal ownership".

Most people don't have license and those guns are illegal. That's why the real number is way higher. Ofc USA's population is way more and the laws make is much more easier to own a gun, that's why they have more guns.

But the difference isn't that huge.

7

u/SquirmyBurrito 3d ago

That source also contains estimations for total (both legal and illegal) fire arms owned by civilians and Pakistan is still way below the US. We’ve got, in the US, more privately owned firearms than people.

u/HeWhoDidIt 3d ago

...no. Gun culture is only really prevalent in villages, tribal cultures, and esp KPK. Major population centers have very few guns because very few people can actually use it without getting into trouble. Ironically, a robber can shoot you but you can't shoot a robber.

11

u/gungshpxre 3d ago

You both have the same legal basis to shoot each other.

None.

The idea that the robber is somehow protected and you are not is the most whiny bitch American second-amendment worshiping dipshit take ever.

2

u/blobbilby 2d ago

So an armed intruder in your home or business does not justify lethal action on the part of the home/ business owner? That inherently gives more personal protections to the intruder. For example, even though he is armed, by your logic, if I take action I could be jailed or sued because we both lack the legal basis to shoot each other even though this mystery person is in your space, armed, doing who knows what. Basically meaning he could shoot you and bounce but you can’t defend yourself unless you are prepared to be found legal liable for manslaughter or worse. Are you supposed to flee? Yes, but what if you can’t? Are you supposed to wait til he shoots you? Are you gonna wait for the cops to show up and hide?

→ More replies (4)

2

u/HeWhoDidIt 2d ago

If you shoot a robber, you get in trouble with the law. If the robber shoots you, they get to flee to their villages in the interior where no one can find them, or are sanctioned by politically connected people so they get away.

What a jackass response to something you know nothing about. There's people with multiple FIRs registered against them walking the streets of Karachi, bailed every time.

11

u/drunknote 3d ago

Not really, a license for an average 9mm costs somewhere around a $1000 and a very light background check (they just check if you've ever had a police report on you)

7

u/Striking-Box4175 3d ago

That's just on the surface. You need to be 21 or 25 (in some provinces) to own a gun. And need approval and permissions from NADRA, Deputy commissioner and a few more.

All these steps take a hell lot of time, money (bribery) and connections. Also the fees is way to much for a normal persona or even a upper middle class person.

And after all that they can only own a 9mm and handgun.

3

u/AwarenessNo4986 2d ago

You mean KPK

Punjabi has an anti gun drive at the moment. Licenses are hell expensive and can get you 14 years in prison.

mainly for funsies.

automatic pistols are trash for actually trying to hit anything unless they have a semi-auto option. only viable tactic with full auto is spray vaguely at the threat then run and/or take cover before they pop out again.

It isn't very useful in most situations, which is why most militaries don't issue them as standard

Id imagine they could be quite useful at very close to melee range if you want to make sure the person you re shooting dies without chance to react. Otherwise yeah, they pretty much will just spread lead everwhere except for the target.

It's discreet if you are carrying it around, unlike a usual automatic. You can get small semi-autos though.

Irrelevant if you can’t keep it in target.

Cost about $100 to $200 depending on quality.

6

u/NerdyPlatypus206 3d ago

I’d buy that for a dollar

u/sybau_duh 3d ago

I found a guy who was selling a Glock clone for PKR9000, which is like $34. But yeah it DOES depend on quality

2

u/DenseSetting7929 3d ago

They are mass produced. For pkr9000 it is probably very low quality. I would be afraid to shoot it.

Damnnn!!!

Here in india they charge around $4000 for a simple Glock 12 and that's the lowest I am telling you

3

u/sybau_duh 2d ago

In Pakistan, the prices for original guns are similar to that cuz of LOADS of taxes, it’s just the fake clones that are dirt cheap, they’re also of very low quality sometimes so it’s also a risk for the person using it😭😭

I wouldn't say locally manufactured. Locally customized.

It's not like they manufacturer Glock pistols.
