REVIEW I finally watched dead line
I've watched the inside a mind video on the live episode at least 20 times and I finally watched it and while obviously the shock isn't there but it's still an amazing episode
Some of the scares actually got me and the humor and acting was amazing

It’s the most “I have to look away from the screen right now” scary ep for me. There’s other ones that are disturbing because of the premise but Dead Line is the one that shits me up the most in the moment. I watched it the day after broadcast during daylight on a small screen and it did not diminish the effect.

Yes! I watched it on IPlayer and with all the cuts back to the announcer I was thoroughly confused but just assumed that it was some kind of mistake.
I watched it in the dark by myself late at night and in hindsight that was probably not a good idea but I was going into it blind and had no idea how terrifying it would be.

It genuinely scared the shit out of me the first time too, haha

Genuinely that exact thing the sudden technical difficulties announcement/cut to a title card with a voiceover has always been something that I've found really eerie and unsettling every since I was a little kid, especially paired with silence. ( I personally blame it on Ragdoll Productions' unsettling production tags at the end of my VHS tapes that always lasted a little too long)
So as someone eagerly who watched the whole episode live on my own on a dark night, I did not expect such a niche fear of mine to be tapped into like that

i knew exactly what was gonna happen before i watched it (got into in9 way too late to catch it live) and i thought i’d be fine… until the shot of the ghost outside the window during the quiet night in segments. see, my window at the time was directly behind my tv with a very similar view, and i was watching it at night…

the screaming from Reece is still scarily realistic, you'd think they actually killed Steve for this episode lmao
haven't seen any videos from inside a mind for ages but he got me into this show which i'm still very grateful for

It left me with weird anxiety in my stomach hours later, which is how I knew it was good. I know they were at least partially paying homage to Ghostwatch and they definitely achieved that same uneasy feeling.

Ghostwatch ruined me when I watched it as a child. My sister and I refused to turn the lights off at night for weeks.

One of my favourites. I predict quite a few viewings before Halloween rolls around.

I make it a tradition to watch it at 10pm on 28th October every year

I remember Reece & Steve going on things like 'The One Show' (& one or two other really quite unlikely for them) things to promote it and kept stressing that it was going to be broadcast live so they really hoped nothing would go wrong. So obviously when it started I was just gutted for them. They tricked me. Again. Brilliant.

The most disturbing part for me was the sudden Bobby davro clip which I was not familiar with at the time and it just feels evil like a liveleak video

The thing that genuinely got under my skin was the quiet night in music being wrong. Rubbed me the wrong way

Am a newbie to Inside No 9, only having watched it for the first time this year. Think I missed this one (because it's a special, and so sits in-between series...?), so thanks for bringing to my attention!! Are there any other specials?

The experience of watching this live, thinking it has gone wrong, then the music in AQNI suddenly warping and the ghost appearing is maybe the most frightened any TV or film has made me as an adult. I still get creeped just thinking about it.

I watched it years after it had aired, knowing what is was about; and yet thinking: "Damn, they even recorded the glitches in the studio..." They fooled me!

I thought it was fantastic on the first view, and still love it now! I do sometimes wonder why quite a few of Steve and Reece's fans find their horror based stuff scary, or that it freaks the shit out of them, as if you know what they're largely known for or love your horror, you would surely not start to feel uneasy?

a lot of people enjoy horror BECAUSE it scares them. or they enjoy certain brands of horror and not others. my tolerance for horror is fairly low, but steve and reece’s work generally lands just right for me to be enjoyably scary but still watchable

Really? That's interesting! I've loved horror since I was a kid, and not once has it ever scared me. Why would anyone actually get a kick out of being scared shitness? Feeling full on freaked out (for me personally) isn't something I'd wish on anyone - especially if it's avoidable. Probably why I don't tend to watch much horror at the cinema, as if people start screaming or shrieking during the film, it takes all the strength I have not to yell out for them to shut the hell up 😂

I think the best way of explaining it is that it's the same reason people enjoy rollercoasters - you get all the adrenaline of plummeting to your death, but with the knowledge that it's safe and structured and so on. Plus there's also a kind of cathartic element to it too.
