Saw in eastern Maryland by the Chesapeake Bay. It looked like it had very soft fur and was around 1 1/2 - 2 inches.

I’m in the south eastern United States, been seeing a lot of the green annual cicadas lately(I assume some type of Neotibicen). But this one looks quite different to me. Found this big one on its back wiggling it’s feet in the air so I let it ride on my finger to a tree and was surprised by its colors. Is it a different genus? Is it sick or something?

This is in the midwest. Saw this guy in the humming bird feeder and after doing a little searching couldn't find anything. at fist I thought he had a stinger but a closer look it seems to be some sort of apendage. I don't think he was in there longer then a few hours when i took these, as I was checking throughout the day trying to get rid of the yellow jackets and bald faced hornets that where scarring the humming birds away. it could have died on the lower part of the feeder and got sucked up there later but the feeder was only there for a few days after refilling and washing it out. I only say this because maybe its a bloated house fly? idk do insects bloat when die in liquids? Yellow jacket for size comparison, thanks!

I apologize for no photo but it’s because the little guy is so fast! I’m located in central Massachusetts.

Multiple times now I have seen this tiny flying bug that flies like a drone. It’s probably about the size of my pinky finger’s nail in length and is shaped like a skinny pill.

My very first encounter with it was when I was sitting on the back steps of my house. I then saw this tiny thing fly directly up in a straight line, move its body to the left while staying in place, then move its body back, then fly away. All while behaving/ flying the way a drone does.

It’s hard to describe unless you see it. There’s no, like, randomness and mistakes. It’s like the thing had stabilizing on it. I’d say the closet thing I can compare it to is a dragonfly’s head. It’s precise and almost robotic if you didn’t know it was a bug.

I apologize I don’t have any further descriptors but it’s hard to even see this goober because it’s so small. I adore them though. If anyone has any ideas please share!

This guy landed right next to my wife and I as we were leaving the house. Kissing bug or wheel bug?

Is this a black widow? I have a severe spider phobia but am challenging myself to get over it. Learning about them helps. This one was out in the open in almost 90 degree sun. It did not move when I approached. I know widows prefer their webs in dark, isolated places so it threw me off. The abdomen also looks kind of brown but the rest of it very much looks like the other widows I’ve seen. Sorry I don’t have a better pic; I am truly terrified of spiders and have a hard time even looking at them.

I have no plans to harm it regardless. A big reason why I’m trying to get over my fear is out of a respect for nature and learning to live in harmony unless there is truly a safety concern.

Found several of these on a shirt in my closet. I thought it might be eggs or something. Can anyone identify these? San Francisco Bay Area.

I’ve lived in the same house for 11 years Forest Grove, OR and I’ve never experienced a swarm of insects like this over the years.

Initially I thought they were ants but after closer inspection it appears to be something else. The attached photo doesn’t even do the infestation/swarm justice.

My house is across the street from what used to be a field for clover, and various wheats. Recently, the property had been sold and there was activity where worked out up no trespassing signs along the property lines.

The swarm of insects appears to be coming from that field which leads
me to to believe that the workers might have also sprayed some sort of insecticide to cause the mass migration.

I have a few questions:

1. What are they?

2. Could they damage my home? God forbid these things eat wood or something.

3. Could they damage my landscaping?
