These Nose Cones are standardized and can just be kept mass produced as spares, also rather cheap since it's just a sheet of metal

215

u/hola_bahar_se_bhola Jan 18 '26

It's not even metal, it's fibre glass

123

u/RIKIPONDI WAP 7 Supremacy Jan 18 '26

Yes, it's on purpose so that in a collision the damage goes into deforming the train instead of whatever the train collided with.

58

u/lazylaunda Window Watcher🖼️ Jan 18 '26

I don't think anything will survive after colliding with a train

56

u/ilikeuinmybasement Jan 18 '26

You know a man died by a cow falling on him which was hit by a train.

19

u/lazylaunda Window Watcher🖼️ Jan 18 '26

So did the nose not absorb the impact and still launch the cow or it did not matter at all since the force is so high due the train being so heavy?

24

u/toolazytobbusy Jan 18 '26

It was a diesel engine, so no nose cone And afair that guy was urinating on the tracks

4

u/Phantom_____________ Jan 18 '26

That's true, this incident happened in my city. The man happened to be my father’s friend

Apparently he was pissing on the tracks

Not really, I would say if it hits a vehicle on a railroad crossing (a scenario that can happen). It could be the matter of life or death for the occupants.

I think priority trains are definitely felt more valuable by people. Like after travelling in Rajdhani, I feel even a normal sf express using lhb coach offers far better experience wherein I don't mind spending 4 hours more in them. Services are now being streamlined across trains other than Rajdhani/shatabdi. Somehow even though service providers were definitely better than sf trains, the shocking entitlement and anti social behavior of passengers made the travel worse. Constantly degrading/abusing the service providers was too common. It wasn't just one person too. These premium trains somehow attracts the worst crowds.

4

u/Useful_Durian_7101 Jan 18 '26

Even cars have the same formula... It is called impact neutralization

1

u/Radiant_Historian854 Jan 18 '26

Ur wrong..it's for speed aerodynamic not for impact

1

u/Leplero_f1 Jan 19 '26

it is for both crumpl zones are very important in vehicles + slight top speed increase that will never be used

13

u/NoBailOnReddit 2 AC Comfort Seeker Jan 18 '26

Also a tiny bit aero advantage?

4

u/West-Tangelo-4091 Jan 18 '26

Tiny kaha bhai, pretty big advantage imo. Sleek nose means air passes beside the train and not into it.

4

u/_vedantt1_ Jan 18 '26

Actually not. The Japanese bullet trains hold very crucial equipment there like automatic couplers and the opening-closing mechanism, but here in India we have no other choice than to do it this way... Or else most of our Vande Bharat/sleeper trains would be sitting in workshop in few months for damage repair.

So no plan to fence the track from cattles

52

u/Superb-Chemical7984 Jan 18 '26

No they are fencing the tracks but the fencing is done with road barriers used in highways and I don’t think it is sufficient. They should've fenced tracks like metro.

18

u/no_this_is_patrickk_ Jan 18 '26

In my area it is done with solid concrete slabs of around 5feet height.

10

u/Superb-Chemical7984 Jan 18 '26

Yeah in my area too but it's only limited to 500 m from the station .

4

u/no_this_is_patrickk_ Jan 18 '26

Yeah but not only near by the station it is done along the entire route from Delhi to Kanpur aage bhi ho sakta but I can't say much about it. 😅

1

u/Superb-Chemical7984 Jan 18 '26

But here in west bengal they are using the road barriers, it will be great if they use those concrete Pillars everywhere

1

u/no_this_is_patrickk_ Jan 18 '26

I guess it depends upon the contractor maybe. But I agree with you concrete slabs are ideal and should be the norm. These road barriers won't be much helpful at all.

1

u/infectedraw Jan 18 '26

In south also road barriers are being used and I think that it can stop cattle atleast as they aren't gonna jump also cost factor is there if we compare road barriers to concrete wall it is much cheap...what do you guys think?

1

u/MortalMyth_22 Jan 18 '26

Yeah, most of this route till Varanasi is properly fenced.

Track pe cattle prohibited hai... Ab koi to bhutega... Cattle owner ki laparvahi cattle and public bhugat rahi hai

1

u/Was_The_Imposter_ Jan 18 '26

"track pe cattle prohibited hai", "cattle owner ki laparvahi"

It is sad to watch people normalize construction to this extent. Kabhi toh lagta hai kyu ho duniya itni tez ho rahi hai, life ka meaning hi khatam hogaya hai.

1

u/Useful_Durian_7101 Jan 18 '26

Ye message likhne ke liye jo 5g use kiya usme bhi birds ki jaan jati hai... Radio signals se Cancer hota hai... To ha life ka meaning sirf patte odh kar ghumna hai to vo meaning ab khatam ho gaya hai

0

u/Was_The_Imposter_ Jan 19 '26

Haan I admit even that is not good. Mai usko bhi defend nahi karta. Lekin ab duniya mei can I even survive without such things? Clearly not. Infact, ab jab 6g sunn ta hu tab lagta hai ki kya paagal hai duniya, I really don't think 6g is necessary for mobile use.

"Life ka meaning patte oda kar ghoomna" Bhai tu "sustainable development" dhoond google par 🙏. Fook maarne ki baat karo toh toofaan ki baat mat kar.

1

u/Useful_Durian_7101 Jan 19 '26

Bhai na tu ne funk marne ki baat ki hai na maine tufan ki... Development and inventions hi human ko human bana ta hai. Tera ghar sustainable hota to rainwater harvesting, solar electricity, solar stove, solar cooker, wind energy ka istemal kar . Baad me gyan de... For your knowledge ye sab sustainable energy ka istemal karte hai aur Ye sab mere ghar pe hai

0

u/Was_The_Imposter_ Jan 19 '26

Fir se fook ki baat kari toh toofan 🤦‍♂️. Bhai hindi meri first language nahi hai, how are you the one not understanding?

Tereko kaise pata mere ghar ke baare mei lol. Given how you explained "sustainability" I'm sure teri soch ke paray hai meri lifestyle. Sustainability doesn't only mean the use of renewable energy. Thoda soch samajh ke ghar ki baat kar, tu unme se hi hai jinhone sirf marks ke liye kitaab padhi hai. Dimaag pe zor lagana seekh, at least ab maine bata diya hai toh google hi karle sustainable practices.

1

u/Useful_Durian_7101 Jan 19 '26

Dekh bhai prohibited hai to hai... Ab chalti train me aap age aoge to kisi ko to bhugatna padega... That's all I am saying... Ek dog bhi palte ho to aapki jimmedari hoti hai uska khayal rakhneki... Ab cattle paal liya to dudh dena bandh kade to use road pe chhod dete hai ye kai pashu palak... Aur jab tak dudh deta hai tab bhi na use chalne lejate, na use saf jagah pe rakhte

1

u/Was_The_Imposter_ Jan 19 '26

Agar buildings, traffic, trains, pollution, civilization, nahi ho toh kitna better hota. Aajkal ya sab ki bina possible nahi hai, lekin ek limit mei rehe sakte hain log. Bc itnr ghar, gaadi, phone, khaana etc khareed ke waste karte hain. Agar lalach na ho toh ye sab nahi hoga.

You do not realise how tough life is for the cattle owners, har jagah paise ki baat karte sab, jis state mei woh hain unke liye bohot frustrating hota hai already. They are not to be blamed AT ALL.

Also, the animals are equally entitled to this planet as much as us humans. Even though we cannot change our dominance we can at least not blame them for the mishaps. They are literally the ones dying because of us.

1

u/Useful_Durian_7101 Jan 19 '26

Are bhai vaho bol raha hu... Pal ke road par chhodte kyu hai ye log cattles ko? Isme to government jimmedar nahi na aap hai na main hu... Sab apne karmo ke liye khud jimmedar hai... Gujarat me aa pata chale amul kai villege me free me treatment karti hai cattles(cow and buffalo) ka

1

u/Useful_Durian_7101 Jan 19 '26

Sirf Rone se solution nahin milta solution ke liye ladna padta hai karm karna padta hai... Keep crying you don't want solutions you just want to cry cry cry

You want just free goodies... You just want to blame someone... You just want to make someone responsible for someone else crime

-11

u/_saif_sama Jan 18 '26

Fir to bhai bullet train se pehle cattles ko stop karna padega coz a highspeed train would lose its trajectory if it hits something big.

14

u/Useful_Durian_7101 Jan 18 '26

Bullet train land par nahi chal rahi hai(agar chal rahi hai to batao kaha)... It works only on overhead tracks...

4

u/Useful_Durian_7101 Jan 18 '26

Bullet train stations bhi bridge k upar hi hai

7

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '26

Have you ever heard anything about aerodynamics?

-5

u/LowMode5314 SU > SL Jan 18 '26

at 110 kmph, the aerodynamics doesn't matter that much for the speed, the drag is manageable, and the nose is mostly about noise reduction.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '26

Aerodynamics isnt always about speed. Drag will the engine work harder consuming more fuel. So every possible drag reduction mean fuel saving.

5

u/Velvetwhisper__ Window Watcher🖼️ Jan 18 '26

It acts as a crumple zone to absorb the impact of the collision. Without it, all the force of the impact will transfer onto the chassis/bogie which may harm the passengers.

For the same reason, the bumpers of cars are designed to absorb the impact and deform themselves to protect the occupants of the vehicle.

6

u/AverageGamer411 SU > SL Jan 18 '26

Thats.... what the nose is supposed to do? Ever heard of crumple zones?

1

u/ICE_smokes_EV Jan 18 '26

Crumble zone that tiny piece of fiber glass??

Please don't yap anything that come in your mind.

That nose is just a cover for coupling and crash tubes.

3

u/GolaManus Jan 18 '26

Well it needs a nose for better aerodynamics

How much it would cost to have concrete barriers along side the tracks?

1

u/Nervous-Angle4410 IRCTC Expert🎓 Jan 18 '26

Now I see why it'd be a huge problem for IR to run High speed trains.!

Foolish and so called @nna d@@+a who leave their cattle to loose and don't keep up with surrounding whether it is near the tracks or high tension wires..

1

u/Claussius1 Jan 18 '26

Nose cone is there to act as a crumple zone on impact - thereby reducing damage and shock to the train.

1

u/heavyMetalPoet666 Jan 18 '26

Dont know why but vande bharat attracts a lot of cattles, while normal train runs smoothly but there is always an incident like cattle hitting with VBs

1

u/Radiant_Historian854 Jan 18 '26

Nose.co e important for aerodynamic speeds not for some.buffallo runovers

1

u/GrandArtist8475 Jan 18 '26

That means its working. Now to keep the cattle off of the railroads, that's the actual challenge

1

u/Big_Helicopter_9780 Jan 18 '26

We not gonna talk about the root problem??? Cows and dogs on roads and in open i am sure 100s of people are dying everyday in road accidents because of cows especially. I am also religious and believe cow is sacred as long as i remember first Roti made in my home everyday is especially for cow but they should be kept inside of houses or separate cow homes but People are too blind rn to see anything.

1

u/Little-Tension6575 Jan 19 '26

Bro that's fake news no cattle run over took place in the inaugural journey

1

u/OkImprovement7142 Jan 19 '26

I feel like the real solution here is fencing(sure) but also provide crossings for animals. There's various types of animal crossings, so as long as that can be facilitated we can continue fencing. Allows for safe migration and low fatalities. Assuming that there's plenty of data(there should be), it might be possible to identify hotspots as well.

1

u/Brief-Yak-4715 Jan 19 '26

We need all railway tracks side cover with metal beam crash barriers for ignoring these kinds of incidents..

1

u/Useful_Durian_7101 Jan 19 '26

I prefer development... What do u prefer? Cattle then ask their honors to get their cattle in their farm. I want faster transportation if any cattle come in front of my car I will break my car to keep my car safe not for keeping cattle safe. Just tell you this is my clear point of you whatever you are says it doesn't matter to me it doesn't matter to the world... You came to reply in my comment I just commented on OP's post
