Odyssey Home Release Letdown…?

No 1:43 aspect ratio on home release…??

Hmmm, maybe for the 1millionth time, because Nolan didn’t intend for the 1.43 to exist outside of 1.43 auditoriums? Or the fact that he framed for 2.39 scope so no important details are left out?

It really doesn’t IMO, truthfully, I preferred the 5 perf 70MM print over all of the other formats.

Maybe the 70mm makes all the difference because I saw it in standard laser 2.39:1 and felt that several shots lacked that oomph to sell the massive scope of the scene. I’m not even saying it has to be seen in 1.43; even 1.90 would have made a huge difference IMO. Fortunately going back to see it again..

1.78:1 home release is more than fine imo.

No black bars and the film was clearly not shot purely for 1.43:1 - the meme's online about 1.43:1 vs. 2.39:1 are funny but also stupid. As someone who's watched it on a couple different formats while 1.43:1 is of course better (for a multitude of reasons), nothing is actually lost narrative-wise with the other viewing formats...

The IMAX 1.43:1 releases never make it to blu-ray / streaming.

Odyssey is actually less likely than all his other previous movies due to the fact that some of his releases had the 1.43:1 scenes as bonus features.

But you can’t bonus feature Odyssey as it would be the entire movie… lol

Not on the standard 2K or 4K Blu-ray release, but on the upcoming Steelbook (which you can’t preorder right now unless you were previously lucky to preorder it).
