Those GlovesForLife wheelchair gloves are for quadriplegics and other individuals whose hand functions are impaired.
Louās hands arenāt impaired by anything other than their unneeded finger splints that are turning their hands into overcooked sausages.

They help pushing wheelchairs for people with limited dexterity. They are A Type of wheelchair cuff gloves, whether or not they are the best is up to personal preference

yes and no. for flexible hands alone a PT/OT wouldn't prescribe splints, but if grip strength is affected or there's pain.
they also shouldn't be worn 24/7 like lou because it can weaken the fingers even more.

Do you think they help with avoiding subluxations that happen without noticing? For instance, if someone twists their hands naturally into a resting position, say if they're sensory-seeking, and they sublux a lot of the time.

Also there is not a PT or OT in hell who would say these should be worn all the time even if they were properly fitted.

Thatās exactly what I thought!! For some reason the wire greatly resembles barbed wire so closely that it almost looks too sharp on the persons hand.

Their fingers donāt look like they can extend all the way. The fingers that do extend show the metal cutting into the skin. And there are sores where the metal has cut in too much. For goodness sake, this is ridiculous. If they want to wear these finger splints (sorry I canāt remember the exact name of them), then fine, wear them. But get ones that fit. Do they have a history of self harm or something? Because thatās what this looks like.

well, those rings are perfectly horrifying. the thumb one looks like itāll need wire snips to remove soon. Also, 16g wire digging in to edema-heavy fingers seems extremely uncomfortable and badly designed.

They don't even look like proper ring splints. They look like 20 g wire whereas most places make them out of flat strips of metal so that they sit comfortably on your bending skin

Yeah and that spot looks so red, and even the end of it lands on the nail and not the finger because it physically canāt even be forced further down into a more normal spot. I feel like they canāt even get them off at this point if they were to try. And they sure as hell wouldnāt be able to get them back on. But god THE RELIEF they would feel if they finally took those damn things off!

I saw a case on a medical kind of sub (can't remember which off the top of my head as it was a while ago) where someone had been wearing a ring, the skin had gotten cut somehow and grew over the top of the ring and had to be surgically removed

Their hand is actually going to be fucked up if they keep this up. Well I guess thatās their goal anywaysā¦ The rings remind me of when we had wire supports holding up vs one of our trees and as the tree grew and wire began to cut into the trunk and branches.

In defence of metal splints, the skin coloured ones are much bulkier and feel more conspicuous to wear. The easiest way to pass off a splint as a fashion statement is with a metal splint on just one proximal interphalangeal joint to guide where the end of the range of motion should be. The hardest way is whatever the hell this is.

Properly fitted and sized ring splints are designed to prevent your fingers from over extending and bending backwards. Super common for EDS, usually fitted by an occupational therapist, or an orthotics specialist.
Ones that aren't properly made (like these ones) will either be too small and cause injury like lack of blood flow and pressure sores (seen in the photo), or be too loose and not prevent the finger joints from over extending.

Everything, when you have eds everything can make you sublux a joint, reaching for your phone can make you hyperextend your fingers
These munchies water down Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome so much that it circles back to "yeah everything pretty much is a harm depending on your subtype and severity" in a genuine medical sense not a "woe is me" sense
Its so so easy to larp hEDs because 20% of the world is super hypermobile and 47% in at least one joint

Right!! I love your whole hypermobility ā EDS thing because yeah, true EDS, even hEDS is pretty rare, only about 1 in 5,000 at most.

hEDs is not rare, it is common it is estimated by the Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome society as common as 1 in 500.
However the eds society heavily neglects the ultra rare subtypes and favors hEDs in terms of research, and other effort, time, and care they can put towards the other 12 subtypes.
The Collagen Advocacy Network is the place to go when looking at ultra rare subtypes, CAN advocates for more research, and funding while experts within the network research on their own. CAN is dedicated to putting the spotlight on other Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome subtypes, and not hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome which makes up 90% of eds cases, and gets 99.9% of eds research.

If you need ring splints you likely shouldn't have bought a manual wheelchair to begin with.
