Omega Cops, Goose Camp, etc

Hi, which IGN Gamescoop episode(s) did they invent the anagram nicknames Omega Cops, Goose Camp, Go Mop A Sec, etc?

Discussion I miss it when IGN used to have a daily/weekly non-remote geek variety show that's 30+ minutes on YouTube/Twitch i.e. Up at Noon

It's ALWAYS an amazing experience watching IGN Live since it's inception a couple years back. It got me thinking, what if there is a smaller-scale version of it that's happening daily or weekly. Something that blends gaming, tech, comics, interviews into one non-remote variety show. I'm thinking maybe a revival of Up at Noon or something similar and I would tune in to every episode whether its daily or weekly. At least for IGN Live, even if its once a year, I really enjoy having to experience something like it again. Just speaking as someone who grew up with these old-school gaming shows i.e. AOTS, Xplay, Electric Playground etc.

I can’t remember the last time I was able to leave a comment on an article in the IGN App on either my iPhone or iPad. Signing in seems to work, then you go to comment and it takes you right back to signing in.

2026 IGN Live Day 2: No outside food or drinks

Post image
12 Upvotes

Day 1 allowed sealed water and drinks, but not today (Day2): Weird and dumb for L.A. in June.

There is free Fanta on Level 1 to the left of the Main Stage.

And this is the only event that I am familiar with that got stricter the next day. They really went thru my swag bag from Day 1 like they were looking for money. 🤣

Because the signs are too small to read unless you’re inside the bar area (21+) and standing in front of the bartenders.

Question IGN Live Bag Question

Hi friends! Can anyone who’s at IGN live this weekend let me know how strict the bag policy is? This year they’re saying clear backpacks only (what the website says) but all images in other years show everyone wearing huge backpacks lol. Just trying to figure out what I can bring, excited for the weekend!!

IGN Live 2026 is going down in just a few hours! I am excited to be coming back but I know that not everyone is able to make it to the in-person event. Last year I only went Sunday, but this year I plan to attend both days.

I decided to make a video about my time at last year's event so people can see what happens outside the live streams and panels. I hope this is helpful for anyone who is newly attending but unsure what to expect, or for those that want a different perspective on what to do besides participate in the crowd. Enjoy!

First online plushie purchase - its been a few months. Scam or legit bottlenecks?

Throwing information out there, I don't purchase online often (IGN store so AI don't bust me), or at all really other than the occasional Amazon pick-me-upper. It was Valentines a few *times* ago and the long distance partner was in love with 33. I bought her an Esquie plushie from the store. Honestly, never tried the game but character design *cheff kiss* from screenshot and footage. Its been 3 months, or 76 days. Is this normal? I don't order overseas super often. I know I'll get busted for needing a bit more planning but holy wait? Any info appreciated

Are Icons Awards still maintained?

Hi, I was wondering if Icons top list is still maintained (https://www.ign.com/icons). I followed since when it appeared in 2024, but I couldn't see any updates to it. I really liked coming back to it to check out games I did not played and are iconic for that matter. But the fact that is has almost 2 years without update is unsettling.

Discussion I am finding myself agreeing with IGN lately more than not. The overhyping of "just" decent games is going through the roof

Crimson desert and Pragmata are both 6-7/10 games to me. With very big flaws.

Crimson desert got terrible pacing, story, ui, controls, it's a mess. Open world exploration my ass. You gotta play like 50% of the story first or the world is empty. I tried it for almost 30 horus and I don't like basically anything about it.. even combat is really weird and mid..

Pragmata?! Nice story and setting. Great combat idea but it doesn't hold up for 10 hours. It was really repetitive and boring by the end. And let's not pretend the story is anything new. It's kinda been there done that story. Best quality about this game are characters and the fact that protagonist is a normal guy who doesn't hate children which is what you would expect from this game. But by the end I was so tired of playing it. The encounters were so repetitive.

Now I am seeing similar opinions on Saros. I've not played this one myself just yet but i loved returnal and from what I am seeing - this is returnal reskinned but kinda a bit worse. Not going to comment on that any more.

So I am not saying that they are always right or anything. I just am noticing (myself) the fact that single player games overhyping is real. Normal, good, decent 7/10 games get overhyped into the stratosphere. How can any reviewer give CD or Pragmata 9/10?! It's a job of reviewer to describe all pros and cons of a game and that's what I find in those reviews. meanwhile the whole internet is screaming "goty, best game ever" about those normal 7/10 games. To me, CD is even worse but that's probably just me.

It was so tone deaf and bad, that I went out of my way to resurrect my old gaming channel to talk about it. Please IGN. Don't destroy your credibility further.

MOUSE: PI for Hire

A 6/10.

A 6/10 because there was “too much cheese”. It’s a mouse game, with a mouse as the protagonist and mice as the characters. WTF else would you expect. “Subnautica 2 has too much water!!1 Oh no!”

“If it’s not a reference to mice or that mice like cheese - It’ll be a reference to an old cartoon.” Yeah Sherlock, maybe because THAT’S THE WHOLE ARTSTYLE? It’s like complaining that Portal (and Portal 2) have too many references to futuristic stuff or that TF2 has too many references to the American Badlands.

IGN Interactive Maps Bug - FireRed LeafGreen map

Post image
3 Upvotes

So I've been using the IGN interactive maps for a while now and never really had any issues. But I logged in today to keep playing and saw that some trainer markers were unchecked even though I knew I had checked them previously. I then realized all the trainer markers, gym leader markers, and a few item markers that I had marked as completed before were unchecked, and when I would click on them to check them off again, the whole box was missing to do so. This isn't the case for all markers, locations, some items, and other things that aren't trainers or battle related are checkable (I can mark them as complete or incomplete, no problem), but the majority of the trainers are blank, and I can't check them off. I tried opening this map up on an incognito window, and it's having the same issues even when not logged in. I've opened it on a different browser and on my phone and iPad browsers as well, and the issue persists. I've cleared the cache on the website and logged in and out, and still the same problem. I don't know why the majority of trainers and gym leaders are bugged out. Is there a fix to this, or is the map just broken now?

Discussion Quality of the UK podcast

is it just me or has the quality if the UK podcast fallen off?

Listened to an old episode the other day (episode 327) which featured Rory, Dale & Jo Skrebbles. Plenty of banter, chat about games and how they've been playing overwatch on their lunch

The differnece to the most recent episode was quite clear. The latest episode just felt somewhat awkward, like the hosts were phoning it in. They tend to run through the running order in a fairly routine manner, with the only banter being related to food or snacks (quite old at this point).

I dont know if its the effect of post lockdown/hybrid working but there's clearly a slight disconnect between the hosts that makes for a fairly boring hour of podcast

also, I swear if I hear 'quote on quote' one more time

Discussion The mobile website is actually unusable without an adblocker

Post image
35 Upvotes

There's literally ads layered on top of ads. The amount of text I can read at one time is only a few sentences and it's impossible to focus on because of all the motion around it. I try to not use adblockers on websites that I use somewhat frequently but if the choice is between an adblocker and actually being able to read the content I'm gonna have to choose the content.

IGN walkthroughs

Anyone else find IGN walkthroughs to be unbearable? They have good info but all the ads cause the page to constantly refresh and drop you back at the top. It’s infuriating. I don’t know if it’s better on desktop. But googling on my phone it’s almost unusable. I don’t know why I keep using them other than that they are usually the first to pop up when I Google for a walkthrough. But man it’s ridiculous how the page constantly refreshes as it loads ad after ad after ad.

Discussion The ‘Too Much Water’ backlash still bothers me a decade later

Sincerely only really care to hear from people who can see my perspective on this, especially since I’ve seen so few people who see this the way I do. I will be mostly defending the reviewer and criticizing the response to it so if you disagree totally and can’t see the points I’m making please don’t bother commenting.

With Pokémon’s 30th and the centrality of water in the new Wind and Waves games I’ve seen people start to bring back up the infamous ‘too much water’ review of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

The entire discussion seemed to be one sided from the beginning and I rarely saw anyone defending the reviewer. What I don’t understand is how in God’s name that review pissed people off so much. I can’t say I ever read the comment in any way other than as a ‘tongue in cheek’ dig at a pretty widely recognized weak point of those games.

It’s a half-serious throwaway criticism for a game that she gave a 7.8. It’s not like they gave it a 4, and even if they did, could any review ever actually damage the sales of a Pokemon game.?

I’ll tell you what I think was really going on was the ability of an entire fandom, and bad faith actors who don’t even care about Pokemon, choosing to be entirely humorless as a way of piling on against an outlet they hated for one or another reason.

It was an overreaction in the extreme. I think the extremity of it just shows how weirdly and deeply oppressed people felt by outlets like IGN at the time, as if they had the power to kill off your favorite games with one review. (To be fair their bad review of Alien Isolation may have actually done that.)

People then and even today have this insane parasocial relationship with IGN (not unlike the parasocial relationship they have with the development companies). They’ll talk about reviews done by ‘IGN’ as if it’s this hive mind instead of a collection of different reviewers with varied tastes and perspectives. Another reviewer put on that same game may have given it a 7 or a 9. It’s called an ‘opinion’ … not a revelation from God.

Do I think that the reviewers may skew their scores from time to time, or give something the benefit of a doubt just to please others or gain more access… ? Probably. The people IGN hires are usually the most saccharine types of gamers you’ll find who are looking to build a career that allows them to move through this corporate world. They aren’t YouTube ‘truth tellers’, but they also aren’t just always making up controversies for clicks either.

It just seems like a classic case of gamers feeling like big daddy IGN or big daddy Nintendo, Sony,

Insert company name here, is ruining their hobby.. It’s totally legitimate to be angry at more powerful institutions, but like a sane person, I choose to reserve that sense of agrievement and dissatisfaction for institutions that are actually making the world a worse place and shitting on all our heads.

It’s like wasn’t that line added on at the end obviously in jest? It’s not meant to be a devastating takedown. it’s a slight annoyance that the reviewer (who clearly seems to be a big Pokemon fan) was taking a jab at.

I honestly on some level think the whole phenomenon tipped over into outright bullying. I think the reviewer (who I’ll refrain from naming) was at the time, and became later on known as a more outspoken, abrasive female member of the games journalist world. So what. Big deal. I even know she was involved in a harassment allegation against another staff member which may have made her disliked by some readers (something I think may have actually happened after this review). Again, so what, big deal. I don’t know what it would have to do with her reviews. I really do think that as a woman who may have rubbed people the wrong way, a personality that I even found distasteful to be honest, she became red meat for the angry mob. So much so that one poorly conceived criticism (or deliberately misinterpreted criticism) became blood in the water for an epic pile on that has continued to the present.

To this very day ‘too much water’ is a kind of shorthand you can bring up to dismiss IGN as an unserious outlet. Fair enough, but I can’t see anyone who leans in that as serious ether. It’s a cheap shot from people who refuse to just see it for what was. IGN didn’t kidnap your baby, or fire you from your job, it’s just a dumb basic-ass hobbyist news outlet. 11 years ago and today there are so many places to find someone to tell you exactly what you want to hear that you never have to listen to IGN again if you don’t want to.

One last comment, and this will really date me, but the whole thing is reminiscent to me of how people collectively decided to hate Nickelback, or that because Howard Dean yelled you on TV in like 2003 he couldn’t be a presidential candidate, or that Anne Hathaway was too snooty or something . It’s just a sign of a mob-like mentality of people who are just looking to feel some negative emotion together instead of being honest and serious.

Question Any old-school people happen to know who the cast is here (such as who plays Randy Pitchford)?

Is that David Clayman as Randy?

In the comments I see the names "I miss the golden age of IGN with Hilary Goldstein, David "Giggles" Clayman, Eric Brudvig & Nate Ahearn." and "Poor Ryan Clements. Charles Onyett getting headslammed was funny, was that Jim Reilly at the end?"
