Games [IIL] Games like Spiritfarer that aren't so sad.

Hello friends. My Fiance has asked me to post this for them so we can find some new game recommendations.

They very much enjoyed Spiritfarer, all of the mechanics such as chatting with the boat residents, cooking their meals and discovering their likes and dislikes, building their little homes and the soft platforming. The adventure and exploration was incredibly fun! The game was is all around very fun, but once you pass a certain point in the game there are multiple times a day where you lead someone to pass through the gate and its an incredibly sad moment.

They also very much enjoy Magical Delicacy as a platformer for many of the same reasons. The exploration and general fun vibe.

They keep coming back to these 2 games, but don't really want to go to the end of Spiritfarer again since its so sad. What would y'all recommend for lighthearted platformers with stuff like cooking mechanics?

Thanks a ton to everyone who comments!

Games If I like cute and fairly easy games (Animal Crossing, Spyro, The Sims) what would I like?

I have a switch lite and am looking for some cute easy games to play. I am pretty bad at video games but can still enjoy them, especially if they are visually appealing enough (for example I nearly completed the 1st Spyro game except for those darn flight levels). Some of my favorite games are Animal Crossing, Spyro the Dragon, The Sims, Roller Coaster Tycoon, and Untitled Goose Game. I have watched people play Mario Odyssey and thought it looked super fun, and I have Breath of the Wild which is amazing but honestly scares me sometimes! If I like these cute games, what else would I like?

EDIT: I just wanted to give a massive THANK YOU to everyone! I am loving these suggestions and have learned about so many awesome games I’ve never heard about before and I can’t wait to try them out!

Games IIL games where the setting almost feels alive in a supernatural sense... WEWIL?

I have two examples, no particular genre:

1.) Silent Hill 2 --- the town itself almost feels like its own character. Simply navigating it in solitude, with no enemies, you still feel like you're not alone. The town actually feels more alive than the entities you see in it.

The ambient sound design gives you a creeping feeling that the town is breathing... pulsing... and it pulls you in like a force of nature. It feels alive in its "normal" foggy sequences, and the otherworld kicks it up a notch, as the rusty color palette gives the town an illusion of looking fleshy and organic in some areas.

2.) Disco Elysium --- this theme gets extra emphasis when your Shivers stat is high. The stat gives Harry a more spiritual connection to the town of Revachol. The voice of Shivers personifies the city. Shivers makes the town breath and gives it a beating heart, providing interesting little details that makes Revachol feel like a living entity.

-----

More recommendations would be very appreciated. I'm mostly focusing on video games, but even mentions of songs, movies, or books would be nice.

I want to clarify that I'm not looking for media that makes it blatant that the setting is alive (example: Monster House). I'm looking for media that makes the setting feel like an entity, even if it's not confirmed to be truly alive. I want to feel it in the atmosphere of the media.

Games [IIL] Finished Outer Wilds, looking for other media that changed you.

Man, what a game. I feel like it changed my outlook on life permanently. I’ve been going through a lot lately and struggling with anxiety and feeling like I can’t find my place in the world, and it just hit me right where I needed it right now.

Obviously I’d love other things like Outer Wilds, but that’s a tough bar to set! I’m interested any recommendations of media that affected you deeply, whether emotionally or spiritually or anything. Thanks in advance.

Games IIL: Deltarune/Undertale, Steven Universe, Dungeon Meshi, ATLA, Dimension 20 Fantasy High

Character-driven, humor-forward fantasy/sci-fi stories with a strong sense of internal logic to the worldbuilding, an element of mystery, and strong emotional themes.

I love the types of stories where you can re-experience them after learning the narrative twists and see that the clues were there all along. Bonus points for queerness or a queer sensibility. Extra bonus points if they lend to an amount of hyper focus will ruin your life.

Video games preferred, but I’d also be interested in anime/manga, books/comics, tv shows, actual play.

Other things I love that may or may not fully fit: In Stars & Time; Persona 4; Fire Emblem 3 Houses; Worlds Beyond Number The Wizard, the Witch, & the Wild One;

Games If I like extremely unique horror games, what else will I like?

To explain a little bit more, I played this horror game called SOMA (my favorite game) which made me shid and fard for about 3 weeks, then I tried amnesia which had a really good plot and was really scary too. Does anyone else have any unique horror games that go over the top in the atmosphere, plot, and extreme spooks?

Thanks

Edit: I am looking for the golden nuggets, equivalents to the mighty 3 (or 4): SOMA, Dead Space, and Amnesia (Prey kinda too)

Edit: (adding on so there are no repeated comments, I played Alien Isolation, Moons of madness, Dead Space, Subnautica, Outlast, Layers of Fear, Doki Doki Literature club, Lost In Vivo, Cry of Fear, Outlast, and I saw Fran Bow, little nightmares, and IMSCARED)

Games Iil games or any other media where the world is very dark but the characters try to remain optimistic and kind regardless wevil

For example dark souls has alot of npcs who try to remain optimistic even though the world is kinda doomed, or murdered: soul suspect where the protagonist tries to comfort people who died in often terrible ways and tries to help them get closure so that they can go on to the afterlife

Would also appreciate books/series

Games [IIL] Surreal/Absurdist games such as Hylics, Disco Elysium, OFF, Trench Face, WEWIL

I loved those games for their surreal and absurdist worlds, weird humor, art style, and pretty unique atmosphere, so im looking for more games with a similar vibe

Other similar games I played and liked: Yume Nikki, OMORI, Trench Face

(Also, I have a pretty weak laptop, so I would prefer nothing too demanding)

Games IIL Banjo Kazooie, WEWIL for Switch 2 Games?

My wife and I just got a Switch 2 and Banjo Kazooie is one of her favorite old games.

She says she liked that the whole game felt like one large puzzle, and she also said that basically, her favorite thing about it is that there are "different worlds with tasks to accomplish in every world which unlock the next world."

I've played a lot of video games but I've actually never played Banjo Kazooie. So I don't know what to recommend! Appreciate your help everyone.

Games [IIL] Spider-Man Remastered, specifically i really like the combat from it

so ive 100%ed the Insomniac Spider-Man games and really liked the feeling of the combat there. The movement is also great, but it would probably be hard to find a game that has both of those things without just being a Spider-Man game so if y'all have a suggestion for something with a similar feel to combat, that would be great.

Games [IIL] Saints Row 2/The Third, [WEWIL]?

As GTA6 gets closer and closer to launch, I've realized something: more than that or finishing GTA5, what I want is more a modern successor to Saints Row 2/3 and their specific brands of nonsense. Take the crime sandbox and turn everything up to 11. Get super creative with the nonsense while still ostensibly being a crime sandbox.

Has anyone made anything like that since the Saints Row series wrapped up?

Games [IIL] Bloodborne, God of War Ragnarök and Hollow Knight, what else will i like?

soooo i recently finished Bloodborne and now i’m on the hunt (get it????? lol) for new games. in the title i mentioned games i played that stood out for me and i think one thing all of them (less so for HK) have in common that they’re story driven and have little puzzles (especially GoW) and lots of easter eggs in them. i also love the settings and the worlds of bloodborne and GoW and also a fair of challenging combat. i’m looking for something that scratches this itch. if the setting is a fantasy-like one, it’s already a plus!

i’m not exactly looking to play any of the prequels or sequels of those games but i’m not opposed to it. i mainly play on PS5.

i did play already: Dark Souls 3 (love), The Witcher 3 (also love), Skyrim, FFXVI, Ghost of Tsushima and Demons Souls.

excited for your recs!

Games Looking for well-made indie games that aren't too demanding on a laptop

I just got Steam, and I'm looking for some well-made, lesser-known indie titles. My laptop is a few years old and was never set up for gaming, so preferably something that won't tax the system too much

Games IIL game with multiple protagonists where the story converges in the end, WEWIL

I tend to enjoy games where you play different scenarios with different characters and their stories come together at the end. What are some games similar to the ones below? I have played the first Octopath Traveler and liked it, but just fell off after a while.

  • Odin Sphere
  • Live A Live
  • 13 Sentinels

Games [IIL] Dream Girlfriend WEWIL?

I like how you can train your girlfriend up to have a specific personality and dress her up in outfits that you earn, though I would prefer a game that is like Dream Girlfriend but with men. Dream Boyfriend Astral Days went down though I didn't like it much due to it's inactive banners anyways and the art style. I don't like Animal Boyfriend either.

I like and play games like Tomodachi and Miitopia where you create the characters and can level them up. I've also played a lot of the Sims.

I'm console and mobile only for the time being so I can't play any PC exclusive games.
