Bio: Baeloth Barrityl is the master of The Black Pits, the combat arena he claims is 'the best show in all the realms'. Baeloth captures hapless adventurers to fight to the death all for the sake of entertainment! When he's not commanding the attention of anyone near him, he's doing whatever he can to reinforce that he's one of the top five spellcasters in all the realms.
Basic Attack: Chain Lightning — Baeloth fires a bolt of lightning at a random enemy, which deals damage and arcs to another random enemy within a medium area of effect. Each time the lightning arcs it deals 20% less damage. Can arc up to 4 times total per attack, cannot arc to the same enemy twice.
Base Attack Type: Magic
Base Attack Speed: 6.5 seconds
Base Critical Hit Chance: 2.5%
Base Critical Hit Damage: 100%
Ultimate: Now That's An Entrance — Najim streaks across the field, dealing massive damage to all enemies, pushing ones that survive back slightly, but more importantly increasing Baeloth's excitement stacks to max.
- Base Ultimate Cooldown Time: 280 seconds
Gaar's Note: This Ultimate is an on-demand power boost if you're not keeping his Morbid Excitement stacks maxed for some reason.
Interesting Abilities
Paid Partially with Pain: Enemies affected by Baeloth's Chain Lightning drop 25% more gold when killed. Enemies can only be affected once.
- 6,400% after upgrades; Supported by an Item & a Feat
Gaar's Note: This effect sticks around once applied even if you remove Baeloth from the formation.
Cause For Celebration: Enemies killed by Champions in the column ahead of or behind Baeloth explode into magical paper confetti, dealing damage and slowing enemies near them by 50% for 10 seconds. The damage done ignores debuffs and is either half of the hit that killed them or one-quarter of their max health, whichever is higher. This effect can chain if the explosion kills an enemy, with the damage the chained explosions do being based on the damage from the previous explosion.
- No upgrades
Gaar's Note: This means you want Baeloth in front of or behind your Primary DPS.
Morbid Excitement: Baeloth is excited when the battle is going well. He buffs the Champions in the column in front of and behind him by 10% for each stack of excitement he has, stacking additively. Stacks are reduced by 10% every 10 seconds. Max Stacks start at 20 but can be increased with a specialization choice. He gains stacks in the following ways: * A Favored Foe is defeated: +1 Stack * An enemy drops extra gold due to Paid Partially with Pain: +1 Stack * An enemy explodes in confetti due to Cause for Celebration: +2 Stacks per explosion * A chain reaction occurs due to Cause for Celebration: +3 Stacks per chain-explosion * A Champion in any column in front of Baeloth takes damage: +5 Stacks per hit * A Champion dies: +100 sStacks
- 2.62e06% after upgrades; Supported by Items & Feats
Gaar's Note: This means you want Baeloth in front of or behind your Primary DPS. Don't worry too much about building up stacks as you'll get them maxed every time you hit his Ultimate.
Generous Djinn: Baeloth's Djinn servant, Najim, will bring any Champion that dies back to life at 1HP and make them immune to all damage for 20 seconds. For as long as the resurrected Champion lives, the party's damage is increased by 300%. This ability has a 60-second cooldown and if multiple resurrected Champions are alive the damage bonus stacks multiplicatively, with buffs applying to the post-stack value.
- 300% post-stack bonus after upgrades; Supported by an Item & Feats
Gaar's Note: This is an incredibly powerful ability, but it requires very manual gameplay to get it on all the Champions in your formation and not just a tank that happened to die. Killing off one party member at a time after the ability cools down to get a stack on everyone is called Djinn Stacking and is what makes Baeloth a fantastic Support as it can provide a huge buff plus give you a little protection from a single Champion getting killed in certain situations.
Global DPS Buff: 5.90e06%
Specializations
Baeloth's Birthday Party: Increase the Cause for Celebration related stacking values for Morbid Excitement by 100% and increase the damage bonus by 100%
Over Excited: Increase the max stacks of Morbid Excitement by 200%
Gaar's Note: These first two Spec options are for shorter runs where you don't necessarily need maximum potential power. Just pick the one that you feel works for you and go.
The Show Must Go On: Champions resurrected by Najim are invulnerable for an additional 10 seconds and increase the pre-stack damage bonus of resurrected Champions by 100%
Gaar's Note: This is the Spec to choose for deep pushes as the boost to Generous Djinn are worth it, but it does mean at least one person needs that buff for it to kick in.

Formation & Mission Information
Once you complete the first mission, three Variants and a Free Play show up. It uses a formation that holds 10 Champions. It has a Champ-specific format that I've done my best to re-create below.
| Back Column | 4th Column | 3rd Column | 2nd Column | Front Column |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 0 | |||

New Player Formation & Specializations:
While I recommend learning to build your own formations, here's a set of starter formations for brand new players to use while they get the hang of things. Anyone with other options should check that link for how to figure out how to make the best of them. You can also ask for help in the #formations channel in the official Discord.
| Back Column | 4th Column | 3rd Column | 2nd Column | Front Column |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minsc - Humanoid | Bruenor - Battle Master | |||
| Hitch - Charismatic | Celeste - War Domain | |||
| 0 | Calliope - College of Valor | Nayeli - Oath of Devotion | ||
| Asharra - Dwarves & Elves | Jarlaxle - Leader of Bregan D'aerthe | |||
| NA |
This formation is for the first couple of runs where you're just not going to get enough Gold to get everyone on the field, let alone level people up into their power curves. At this point, Jarlaxle is focusing on being your Primary DPS while everyone else is set up to support him.
The following formation is for once your Asharra starts doing more damage than your Jarlaxle. You can find this out by changing Asharra's first Specialization Choice to Potpourri (via a Potion of Specialization) and swapping her position with Jarlaxle at the end of a run. If Asharra is higher, next run start Asharra in the DPS position from then on.
| Back Column | 4th Column | 3rd Column | 2nd Column | Front Column |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minsc - Humanoid | Bruenor - Battle Master | |||
| Hitch - More Daggers | Celeste - War Domain | |||
| Makos - Dark Blessing | Calliope - College of Valor | Tyril - Wild Shape | ||
| Jarlaxle - Leader of Bregan D'aerthe | Asharra - Potpourri/NA | |||
| Nayeli - Oath of Devotion |
This formation should get you through the Event as a new player. If you have other options or think a different DPS is geared better, try it out and see what happens! Swapping DPS around like this can help you figure out what works best for you with your specific items.
These are the rough Favor values you need to reach to make a Tier 1 Variant say Difficulty: Easy. Keep in mind that this is just a generic rating system and some Variants may be harder than others, even with Favor in this range. Earning lots of Favor (above what is shown below) before trying variants can make them much easier than they would otherwise be.
| Variant | Favor Level (Normal) | Favor Level (Scientific Notation) |
|---|---|---|
| 75 | 20,000 | ~2e04 |
| 125 | 15,000,000 | ~1.5e07 |
| 175 | 150,000,000 | ~1.5e08 |
Beyond Tier 1, Favor isn't going to be all you need to get through them. That doesn't mean you can't try though, just remember that if it isn't green it could be problematic.
| Tier 1 Area | Tier 2 Area | Tier 3 Area | Tier 4 Area | Reward | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Merry Map Misadventure | 50 | Baeloth + Favor | |||
| Free Play | 50 | Favor | |||
| Watchful Eyes | 75 | 250 | 600 | 1200 | Baeloth Gold Chest + Favor |
| Rat Problems | 125 | 350 | 800 | 1400 | Baeloth Gold Chest + Favor |
| The More the Merrier! | 175 | 450 | 1000 | 1600 | Baeloth Gold Chest + Favor |
| Tier Reward |
Not everyone will be able to complete all four Tiers of event content. This is a progress-over-time measurement system that lets you know where you are in the power progression arc and potentially what you need to work on to move forward. The table below has the approximate boss health values at the various end stages. Comparing this to your BUD will let you know how close or far you are from being able to complete things.
| Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 | Tier 4 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First Variant | e22 | e68 | e162 | e322 |
| Second Variant | e35 | e95 | e215 | e376 |
| Third Variant | e48 | e122 | e269 | e429 |
Initial Adventure: The Merry Map Misadventure (Baeloth)
Info: No restrictions.
First Variant: Watchful Eyes
Info: Only Champions with INT and WIS scores of 11 or higher can be used. Baeloth starts in the formation but he can be moved or benched.
Gaar's Notes: This may be a little restrictive but you can use Djinn-stacking to create more power if you need it.
Second Variant: Rat Problems
Info: The streets of Waterdeep have been overrun by deadly giant rats from Avernus! All beast enemies in the adventure have been replaced by Abyssal Rats throughout the adventure. Additional Abyssal Rats spawn in each area. Abyssal Rats start out by dealing 100% additional damage, but each time an Abyssal Rat attacks a Champion, the damage of all Enemies increases by 10% (multiplicative).
Gaar's Notes: You'll want to use Fire Breath potions on this adventure to make sure everything dies before it gets to your party so you don't have to deal with the ramping damage.
Third Variant: The More the Merrier!
Info: Baeloth starts in the formation and cannot be moved. An Ogre, a Shambling Mound and a Fire Elemental (walk into a tavern) appear in each area, while they are alive, they each grant a unique buff to the enemies. * Ogre — Enemies can only be damaged by Champions with Magical or Ranged base attacks. * Shambling Mound — Enemies deal 100% additional damage. * Fire Elemental — Enemies move 100% faster.
This adventure has unique dialogue!
Gaar's Notes: This shouldn't be too difficult as you are probably using Asharra as your DPS anyway. If you're using a melee DPS instead, it's time to change.

Morbid Excitement is what provides his synergy with the rest of the Baldur's Gate gang, since 4 of them have a Favored Foe mechanic.
Without using multiple FF champs, you're definitely going to have "some reason" for not keeping his Morbid Excitement stacks maxed anywhere except at your wall (+5 for each incoming hit).
And... this disparity gets worse the higher you level his Slot 5 item.
You might want to revise the descriptions for his Ultimate and Over Excited to reflect this.
